Customer Reviews

Noctua never ceases to impress Noctua coolers are one of the best, if not the best air coolers in the market. This cooler is no exception. I have it on an overclocked 5820K @ 4.6 and it can keep up with the heat that the processor is putting out. I chose this cooler because of its size. While it's not the smallest, it's not the largest either. I needed something that would fit snugly inside of a Corsair Air 240, and this one does with just millimeters to spare. The fans included are 92mm, so you can't just swap it out with a case fan, but with this fan, you don't need to. Noctua fans are known for being exceptionally quiet and push ALOT of air.Packaging: Noctua always has excellent packaging and this is no exception. There was enough padding and cardboard in the box to ensure that it will not be damaged during shipping.Installation: was incredibly easy on the X99 board. All parts were included, as well as directions.Would I recommend? Absolutely. This is my 3rd Noctua cooler that I'd bought now. I have 2 others in a 4U rack mounted case. I wouldn't keep spending my money on them if I didn't know the value was there. 5So quiet, I barely knew it was on. :) I bought an older PC (circa 2010) that I just upgraded to an i7-870 CPU at 3GHz (approx). The stock fan the machine came with would ALWAYS whir like crazy when the CPU got somewhat hot or tried to run above 3GHz. I got used to it so I could sleep eventually. So naturally, I had to go online and find something quieter. This was recommended and the price was decent enough. It's actually a lower height than the stock cooler than came with the Gateway PC and it's surprisingly quiet even when the old one would whir during overclocking. I mean.... so quiet I didn't even think it was running. It took a while to figure out how to install it since I don't honestly do these that often but the instructions for it were excellent (in good English too) along with necessary pictures. I haven't had the machine shut down because of heat, or anything bad, really..... This was a good purchase for me.Now keep in mind that I don't purposely overclock these CPUs so I can't speak how well it handles that. But I can tell you that when it goes into Turbo mode and tries to run at about 3.25GHz, this thing is as quiet as it can get, I guess. I don't hear it and I haven't had one problem at all 5High quality, low noise. Very high quality cooler. The instructions and mounting hardware were equally impressive and easy to use. I think it took me all of 5 minutes to install once I had my stock cooler removed. Far quieter than the stock unit, and does a much better job keeping the temp down. Would recommend. 5WOW! What a difference! Was using the stock cooler for my Core i7-7700k (not overclocked) and was seeing temps from 70-80 Celsius while gaming. Sometimes hitting 85 degrees. Just installed the NH-D9L (used included thermal paste) and my CPU now hovers right around 60 degrees during gaming. I m amazed! Didn t think I would see that kind of difference. And the fan is way quieter where the stock fan sounded like it was maxing out to keep it below 80.Noctura also seemed to put a lot of care and attention to detail into their packaging and instructions. Everything was very clear. Definitely feels like a premium product for a decent price.I was always turned off by the color scheme of Noctura but this cooler fit my Corsair Air 240 case so I gave it a try. I now see why people rave about Noctura. The performance is fantastic! It will be hard to go with a different company in future builds. 5A first class piece of hardware. I bought this particular CPU cooler because I was putting it into a Corsair Carbide Series Air 240 which can only handle a cooler height of about 120-130mm. The packaging that the cooler comes in it absolutely first class retail quality. Everything is encased in cardboard carriers and boxes. This is a complete kit with everything you need including the thermal paste and a screwdriver. The instructions that came with the cooler were clear enough that I didn't have to find a YouTube video to show me how it is done.Installation requires access to the bottom of the motherboard so if your case doesn't have a door under the motherboard (mine didn't) then you will have to remove the motherboard. It took me about 30 minutes to install mine. The screwdriver you get is long enough so it is all I needed to do the entire install. My computer is a i5-3470 running on an Intel BLH6710H motherboard with a GTX 750Ti video card. Nothing fancy but a solid light duty gaming rig and web surfer/streamer. No overclocking capabilities so it is running at stock speeds.I tested the stock Intel cooler that came with my CPU prior to installing the Noctua cooler. I again tested after the install. At idle the Noctua is about 3 degrees Celsius cooler (from 41C to 38C.) At full load using Prime95 blend stress test the stock Intel cooler took ~5min to reach saturation temp of 81 degrees Celsius while the Noctua took 6 minutes to get up to a temp of 73C for a total drop in temp of 8C. Neither cooler was forced into thermal throttling. So while I don't think I really needed the Noctua cooler it is still a quality piece of hardware. The fit and finish is superior and everything you need is included. And the cool factor is high as it looks good through the case window! 5Impressive craftsmanship and bang for the buck! Replaced a smaller Noctua unit that I was using on my i7-7700K 91W. The smaller one was hitting 100C and thermal throttling on full constant loads with no OC, still worked fine for normal usage and games. This one will barely touch 80C now on full constant load, no OC in an ITX case setup. Only thing is it comes with extra brackets for another 92mm fan but its only compatible with the thicker fans, not the thinner 92mm fan like I had on my other CPU cooler that I was hoping to use in conjunction with the one it comes with. Noctua continues to produce superior air cooling products, comes with a top three rated CPU paste and all the metal tools and hardware required for install. This is the third Noctua cooler I have owned and they always live up to their reputation. I would suggest though before you decide on a CPU cooler head over to the Noctua site and give a read to their TDP guide to get one just right for your needs. Helped me find the right cooler for my processor and fit the space requirement I have. 5It's just what I was looking for. It easily earned this 5 star review.I got it for an i7-8700 (with craptacular Intel cooling solution) and I knew from experience I wanted something better.I have a bunch of new unused 'hyper 212s' and they often have a flaw where the heatpipes come loose from the base, and the 212's transfer surface is gnarly looking when brand new. Even if you lap a hyper 212 smooth they wiggle so there is no point. I have lapped many 'import' waterblocks for use on 400 watt TDP ASICs, so I have some idea of what works well for moving heat.I chose Noctua based on the photos that show the actual heat transfer surface. When I look at it, it looks back at me (already lapped to a mirror finish). In this one instance "Ohhh, shiney!" is exactly what met and exceeded my expectations.I installed it in a very tiny microATX case.No issues with clearance. The RAM clears no prob and a M.2 SSD clears. The only potential non-issue is the common placement of the CPU fan connector on motherboards.Remember to plug it in before installing heatsink! (same as with most air cooling solution so no deduction)I suggest installing/uninstalling the fan a few times before screwing it down if it's your first rodeo. You can easily install the fan clips after everything is installed.Additionally, don't forget to install the CPU before installing the brackets to the motherboard. The NH-D9L, due to its dual fin arrangement, will be easy to clean with an old toothbrush. With the fan in the middle most of the dirt will be on the washable fins and not the fan!My application had upper-moderate cooling needs (65-95 watt TDP CPU) and I took a chance.I'm a very happy camper and I'll consider Noctua cooling solutions for future needs. 5Great cooling performance for the price I am using the Noctua NH-D9L with an i7 8700K with no overclocking. I also have another computer with an i7 8700 (non-K) with a stock Intel cooler and no overclocking. Both computer builds are almost identical, built around the same time, and both Cooler Master HAF 912 cases have added fans. Both computers are in a room with an air conditioner set to a comfortable 73 . I used the program Core Temp 1.12.1 and all temperatures are in Fahrenheit. The CPUs in both computers have been used heavily for a few hours running Handbrake to transcode video. The transcoding is using GPU encoding, but Handbrake still uses the CPU at anywhere from 40% to 100% depending on the video source. The 8700K with the Noctua ranges from around 118 to 150 and the recorded high was 158 . The 8700 with the stock Intel cooler is running around 130 to 180 (usually at the high end of the range) and the recorded high was 212 (the max temp for this CPU). I tested these today because I wanted to see if the Noctua was that much better than the stock Intel cooler. It's a big difference! On a side note, this cooler was easy to install. The only minor issue was screwing the cooler to motherboard mount. You need to be sure to barely get one sided threaded and then get the other side threaded. If you tighten the first side even a little you may have an issue getting the other side threaded. That was the only hangup. Everything else went as expected.I had my doubts about this cooler since it was not made with copper. I did not think it would cool as well as it does. The metals used don't seem to have an issue drawing the heat away. The fan even felt a little weak to me when I first powered it on, which concerned me, but the temperatures are impressive.I'm glad I compared CPU temps today because the i7 8700 with the stock cooler is running way too hot. I ordered another Noctua NH-D9L to replace the stock cooler. This CPU cooler is well worth the price.UPDATE 11/2/2018I bought another one of these coolers for my computer with an intel i7 8700 (non-K) because I was seeing average temperatures of 180 to 185 F while transcoding video (and not with the CPU pegged at 100%). This was even when running a room air conditioner at 73 F. I installed the Noctua CPU cooler today and I am transcoding video without the room air conditioner on because it is about 75 F in the room. The highest temperature I have seen so far was 180 F and this CPU previously hit the max temp of 212 F with the stock cooler. The average temp I'm seeing while transcoding video right now is around 140 to 165 F depending on the CPU usage. I decided to max out the CPU with another instance of Handbrake, but without GPU encoding, and this is when I saw the high of 180 . This is what I was seeing when not having the CPU maxed out for long periods of time with the stock cooler.I'm totally happy with this CPU cooler. Even hammering my CPU, I am seeing 15 to 20 cooler temps. 5One of the Best with 100% RAM Clearance This has to be one of the best coolers out there that doesn't extend past your CPU's mounting brackets. I was downsizing my case to the Corsair Carbide Air 240 and I needed a CPU cooler that was shorter than the 120mm max allowed cooler height. This one fit the bill well.Without settling for a top flow cooler I was able to achieve 35-40 degrees Celsius idle, and 67-69 degrees at 100% full load with my i7-4790K for over half an hour. Only after over an hour of running my CPU at 100% full load in Prime95 was I able to spike the temperature above 70. The stock cooler had my CPU running 80+ degrees immediately under full load.If you're tight on space but don't want to settle for (or simply don't like the idea of) a top flow CPU cooler, seriously consider this one! I find the brown fan colors are ugly, but it gets the job done and the fan remains mostly hidden sandwiched between the heatsinks. 5Not as drastic a temp change as others have claimed, but still a brilliant cooling solution. Very well made, whisper silent and cools as well as my previous water cooling setup. Installation is a breeze, and it's solid. Doesn't put a lot of weight or stress on the motherboard. I was a little disappointed that the numbers didn't drop as much as others had stated (they stayed identical, where others reported getting down to 30 degrees or so at idle and no more than 45-50 degrees under load). It idles for me with my i7 4790K (not overclocked) at about 36 degrees, and under load still gets up to about 70 degrees, sometimes 75. This is in an ATX tower with 6 other Noctua fans handling the airflow. So it's about the same as liquid cooling was. Big plus though is that it's quiet and takes up far less space. You really can't go wrong with Noctua products. I'm not sure why my temps are so much higher than other. I do know the 4790K runs quite hot compared to other i7's though so I chalk it up to that. As I said, this matches liquid cooling temps, takes up less space, and is dead silent even at it's highest fan speed. So it's a winner in my book. After replacing all my case fans with Noctua fans and installing a STRIX GTX 960 graphics card (fans don't run unless it's really being worked hard) I now have a massively powerful gaming rig that is silent even when gaming. 5
