Customer Reviews

e-shutter banding requires setting changebarely used so far. seems great, fairly easy setup except that you need to read instructions :)important note though: if the electronic shutter ("e-Front Curtain Shut." in menu on 5th pg of 2nd file) is on, which I think is default, it may present horizontal banding. I don't think this is necessarily a fault of the camera. Turn it off and images are fine. 5Great value for flash and wireless controller. Powerful, intuitive. Only a couple gripes.I was very impressed with a Photo Plus EXPO demo of the Nissin ND70AK DI700 Air and Air 1 kit. Celebrity Photographer Hernan Rodriguez is a friend. He showed me how impressive the Nissin Air and Air 1 kit are. After using this for around 3 months I can say I really like it. It's intuitive, reliable, and just works. My only two complaints are: (1) I REALLY wish the flash unit had a 1/4 20 adapter built-in so I could securely attach the flash to a light stand or tripod. (I'm using the Sony version of the Nissin system and the Sony hotshoe adapter doesn't play well with a lot of the flash brackets out there.) (2) the flash comes with a little plastic stand in case you want to use the flash off-camera. Unfortunately, the flash doesn't mount securely into the stand. It slides right in and out freely so it can't be trusted. It's possible that both of these limitations are only issues with the Sony variant of the Nissin system. 4Great for Sony!A cost effective flash system for Sony. I have the a77ii with the new multi interface shoe, and this is compatible. I downloaded online documentation to supplement the quick start cards in the box. I'm new to off camera flash, but these units helping me quickly. They do like full batteries, plan to get rechargeables soon. This also does HSS and TTL. I've used the TTL once to try it, but learning with manual settings. I love that I can add more flashes later and control 3 groups with this Air1. Attached a photo I took after only a few sessions of learning. This is with the one flash in a softbox controlled by Air1. 5Great flash for the A7 seriesThis flash unit is very powerful. I've been using it in conjunction with an Alien Bee flash on my Sony A7R for studio work. I will say, however, that it can be a hassle to get the wireless synced up and behaving properly. I've had issues with that a few times so it loses a star there. I made a few colored sheets to get different lighting effects out of it. Would definitely buy again. 4Great idea. Poor execution. This is a great idea but needs better execution. For example, I often have trouble syncing or re-syncing the units. The Commander often starts to flicker and then loses it sync. The flash often takes multiple minutes to turn on (it's odd, but I sometimes have to press the on button 10 or 12 times to get it to turn on). Also I think the directions sent in the box are weak. Of course I've gone online to learn about the product.I use this with a Sony a7RII and sometimes the flash works in M mode and sometimes it doesn't. I've had to switch back and forth between Auto and M to get it to work.Having said this, it is also important to say that I am not an expert with flash units so perhaps all my issues are user-error. 2Great for Sony a6300, but build quality suffers.Worked great with my Sony a6300 for a corporate event -- for 2 days. I used the flash stand for off-camera use, and the stand is flimsy -- breaking on the third day. When mounted on the stand, the flash is loose. Also, plan on having plenty of extra AAA batteries for the transmitter, as it gets flaky as juice goes down. Transmitter worked great with Sony wireless flash mode. I also mounted flash direct on camera. The on camera mount took some effort, but felt much more secure. If build quality was better,it would have 5 stars. 3Decent value compared to Sony's expensive flashesThe flash has done its job for me and shooting from the hotshoe has worked great. I do worry about the longevity of the hotshoe. It seems like a terrible design that will just be a matter of time until it breaks. I've been really careful connecting and disconnecting though and no problems. The flash seems like a good value. 4The weight to is good. Not too heavyIt works out of the box. I have "Nikon" version. I have tried Pocket Wizards, Godox, Cactus and other cheap radio systems. This one just works once set up. The TTL "really dose work" too! and spot on. I use my flash for weddings and shoot almost everyday. It seems to have held up well so far. With TTL set up i did not have a problem with recycle time seems about at fast as my SB700. But i guess that is all about your shooting style. The weight to is good. Not too heavy. "Nissan Banzai!" 5It has some limitations, but for my purpose, ...It has some limitations, but for my purpose, it works very well. Only complaint is that high speed sync doesn't work if the flash is on the camera and it's shooting up. But I mainly bought this to use as strobe off camera, so it works for me.I used to use Yongnuo products for Canon, but it miss fired on several occasions. This one for Sony has yet to miss fire. 5Nikon Flashes For Sale!I love the built in radio and the fact that I can sell off my pocket wizard triggers... Less gear to worry about, less clutter. TTL works just as it should, although I use in manual mode most of the time. and for $100+ less money it's a no brainier.www.jmkphotography.net 5
