Customer Reviews

Not Waterproof in my experienceThis camera is NOT waterproof. Well, maybe if you drop it in a puddle. I took it snorkeling and within the first 20 minutes, it clouded up, got condensation, and was essentially useless. So very disappointed. I tested it out on land first, and the pictures were good as a regular camera, and I liked the wifi feature where the photos automatically sent to your phone. But I bought it for snorkeling. I stay on the surface and don't venture down from the surface ever, so extremely disappointed that I basically now have a ruined camera after only a couple of uses.1Overall I've been happy with this cameraOverall I've been happy with this camera, knowing that it doesn't provide ULTRA-hi-res images like my digital SLR. The instructions about cleaning ANY bits of sand out where the seal is are not kidding, though. I had somehow allowed a tiny bit of grit in there and the next time after using it underwater it leaked a bit. The screen fogged and I thought I'd ruined it. But after letting it dry thoroughly and being more careful it's been fine.4Not DurableFrom the product description: "Waterproof down to a depth of 33 feet, shockproof from a 5.9 feet drop..." My daughter took this camera on Outward Bound and it took some great snaps before it broke-- the front lens cracked and water entered the camera. I thought it would be covered under warranty given the above product description, so I paid for shipping and took the time to send it in. Warranty was denied because of "impact damage." So "shockproof" is a relative term and Nikon apparently doesn't see "shockproof" the way I do. You'd think they might just replace it-- certainly can't cost them much-- but I guess losing a lifelong Nikon customer is easier.1Love this camera Very durable camera, great for kids and adults. Easy to use and great price point. This is our second camera like this. Other camera lasted 7 years and is still going. Yes I would buy again5Fun, simple, tough camera for all ages with great image qualityI bought this camera for my six-year-old granddaughter. Although it is far from being a toy, the onscreen graphics and fun features will appeal to younger folks. It is literally point and shoot: turn it on, take the photo. There are no manual controls in the DSLR sense, but it does have minimal exposure controls and even a built-in two-stop neutral density filter, although the manual does not explain how this works. The flash can be set to off, on, and automatic. You can add stars and crowns and bubble effects and lots more to photos, and it has lots of image effects. The size and shape of this camera are well suited to small hands, not so much to my hands, and my middle-aged-man hands are not that big. But I could get used to handling this camera. If you're used to holding a heftier camera body, you'll have to work to hold this one steady, it's so lightweight. One of this camera's very few negatives is that with the included charger cable, you must keep the battery in the camera and plug in the entire camera to charge it. You can't charge a battery and shoot using a second battery. An optional Nikon wall charger is available to charge the proprietary battery outside the camera.I spent around two hundred bucks for the camera, a spare battery, a standalone charger, a memory card (it does not come with one and has only a small amount of internal memory), and a case. The menus are basic and easy to use while providing enough features to interest a young person or very casual photographer, the shockproofing will protect against young hands' clumsiness, and the weather-resistant qualities are a plus for outdoor use. I found that setting up the Nikon SnapBridge app for cellphone connectivity (storage) and the Nikon Image Space app (for online storage) to be rather tedious, but once I did, with the camera paired to the phone, it quickly uploaded images first to the camera and then to the web. So this is a handy camera for folks without a computer to use for storage or uploading. But here is what is really great about this camera: it has superb image quality for its class. In good light, the pictures are very sharp and clean, with true colors, little noise, and great detail. The flash illuminates pretty evenly and provides enough light for sharp indoor photos. The flash was pleasing even when aimed straight at people's faces at fairly close range, and flesh tones were true. Thirteen megapixels will theoretically let you print an 11x14 photo, but I've seen compact cameras that cost much more than this whose image quality would not allow that. Although most users of this camera will not be printing that large, if at all, I think that under decent conditions, this camera would allow for an 11x14 print. What a great camera for the price. If my granddaughter, who took to it instantly, takes care of this camera, it will "grow" with her quite well. At a price near the bottom of the entry-level heap for digital cameras of any kind, this camera is a super value, all the more so because of the well-established Nikon Coolpix brand.5Complete letdown for meAlthough it has generally good reviews by others, it was a let down for me. Picture quality is good enough, but it takes long to capture the photo. About half the time it is slow to respond. I d find myself pressing down the picture button and nothing would happen. The defining moment was today.....last day of a beach vacation....the lens has condensation in it and is completely fogged up, rendering it useless. I would not recommend it, which is sad considering it s a Nikon. I d recommend the Fuji....price is comparable and although it only lasted about 3 years, it lasted longer than this one which only lasted 3 weeks!1Tough Little CameraWe bought this camera for our 8 year old and it has been great. Easy and straight-forward to use. Pretty tough, too. She's already dropped it several times and it's none the worse for wear. We're very pleased with the purchase.5Perfect for a casual traveling photographer. This is the second one of these that I have bought for my wife. (Left the first in a Hotel). She loves the thing. It's easier to use and takes better pictures and videos than her iphone7 It takes nice underwater pictures, too. This is a well designed product. I use expensive Nikon stuff (like a D750) for a reference to where my viewpoint comes from.5... for our trip to cancun and it worked out great!!i bought this camera a little last minute for our trip to cancun and it worked out great!!!! it was a little difficult to see the screen when in the sun and water so sometimes i just had to aim and shoot. the camera lens would get foggy too but thats something you cant control with the environment. for sure recommend mastering the camera before attempting to snorkel for the first time and use the camera lol!!!! if you want to be professional then spend the big bucks on a camera and a big fancy waterproof case like the girl in the picture.... otherwise you're good with this one.4Great underwater cameraGreat pictures and and videos under water. Above water video are average.5
