Customer Reviews

Great lens Great buy for the money This lens does just what I wanted, and I am very happy with it. I didn't expect it to complete with the eight hundred dollar version, but it does give a wide angle lens for a lot less money to play with. I can photoshop out any problems the lens might have. 5great ergonomics, small size It was either a used 20 f/2.8 D or the newer 20 1.8 G. Decided to go for the f/2.8 D because I don't need f/1.8 and it's much more economical when buying used. Well built, great ergonomics, small size. The old school screw drive AF leaves a bit to be desired; it's unrefined and kind of noisy, but quick and accurate. There's no manual focus override on this lens, so you have to steer clear of the MF ring when auto focusing and flip the switch on the body to change to MF. It's an older lens - all of these issues are gone on the newer f/1.8 version so I really can't complain. I'm using this lens in a reportage style, not for landscapes, and image quality is more than sufficient. Corners are soft wide open and clean up quickly. By f/5.6-f/8 the lens is sharp across the frame with the exception of the *extreme* corners, which never fully clean up. This shortcoming is irrelevant to my style of shooting, however your needs may vary. Despite its age this lens still holds up. I wouldn't pay MSRP for it, but it's widely available used and should be considered by those looking for a sharp, small ultra-wide. 4and I wanted to be able to do two things better, take pictures of them inside my small house ... I am absolutely loving this lens! I purchased it for my Nikon D7200. I mainly take pictures of my kids, and I wanted to be able to do two things better, take pictures of them inside my small house and get more of the scene when we're out and about without having to back too far away. (You never know when you're going to need to grab hold of the toddler.)This lens is living on my camera right now! I took it to the beach with my family, and it was perfect for getting the kids and the scenery. I can take group photos at home and barely even have to climb on the furniture anymore!I really just love this lens. Money well spent. 5Love this Lens It's sharp, wonderful, and the perfect wideness for what I need! Especially great if you have a full frame camera, but it will work on the smaller sensor cameras as well. The fixed focal length lenses are all I use because they focus faster and are much sharper than zoom lenses. 5one of my favorite lenses i've ever used (along with the 35mm f/2D) call me crazy, but i'd rather have this lens over the highly touted nikkor 20mm 1.8G because of its significantly smaller size. sure image quality might be worse, but for the layman it is hardly distinguishable and as someone who travels a LOT, this lens is superior to its G cousin. one last thing, perhaps not what most people care about, but the D nikkor lenses just have more character than the newer nikkor lineups (the AiS ones have even more character). something about the screw drive autofocus, even though it's noisier than the SWM autofocus and the retro feel to it just makes lenses like these a lot more fun to use and a lot easier to appreciate. 5Good lens, wasn t as sharp as I was hoping ... Good lens, wasn t as sharp as I was hoping but affordable wide-angle lens and looking forward to using it on a film Nikon in the future outside of my D 80 3Very satisfied Works great on my F4 SLR. I take advantage of the auto focus and yet can control the aperture on the lens when the body of the older generation of cameras cannot. What I am amazed with the most with is that this lens has minimal distortion for a wide angle lens. Cheep knock-off brands lack good error corrective elements that are essential for a good image especially at the wider aperture settings. I like the build quality as well of the older lenses. The specs on the G series may be better, but I guess the trade off is the ability to control the aperture on the lens and solid build construction. 5Nice little lens! Great little 20mm lens! Works great for astrophotography since the focus ring hard stops at infinity unlike newer lenses. 5I love it to death, slightly outdated though it may be Not ultra sharp, but gosh for the money this is a great old lens. I find generally for such an extreme angle picture, you don't even need pinpoint sharpness. Also, you might only want this lens if you have lightroom or something else that can profile-correct the complex distortion. 4Just great. Great optical qualities, as expected from Nikon. Slightly heavy compared to more modern lenses, but top quality metal construction. It has become the standard prime lens for my D7000 when out in the field. 5
