Customer Reviews

When I first installed the unit in the room where ...When I first installed the unit in the room where we stream video, I was chagrined to find that, though the signal was stronger, it seemed slower than the router I was extending, an impression corroborated by several reviews. Wifi internet on my laptop also seemed slower. So I emailed customer support, not expecting much, because I was past my 90-day free technical support deadline. I was surprised to get a phone call a few hours later. When I mentioned the reviews indicating that the unit was slower than the router it was extending, he assured me that wasn't a characteristic of the unit, and he would help me troubleshoot. He was endlessly patient in walking me through the process of updating the device firmware (the software that runs the unit). As it happened, even though I purchased the unit in March, the firmware was significantly out of date. After the installation, we ran a speed test, and the unit delivered the same speed in the TV room as the main router did in the room where it is located. Apparently, problem solved.5Works Just FineOk, so I had read several negative reviews saying it quit after a month. So, I held off until now to leave feedback. I've now had it operating for about a month and a half.In that time, it cut out a grand total of once (hence the four star instead of five). I have no idea why. But I simply unplugged and replugged. Fixed it. Apart from that it has worked fine. So, I'm not sure what the other guys were talking about.Signal strength and data speed are great. No lag that I can detect from my central system. A heck of a lot cheaper than some of the other systems. Some were over $300. And I still can't read anything in their descriptions about what they do that this doesn't.Bottom line is that it is a pretty good product for a great price.4Don t waste your money.I changed my 5 star rating to a 1 star. At first, it worked perfectly. It was easy t set up and booted my signal from the second floor to the basement. Since then, however, it hasn t been working at all. It constantly kicks us off the network and requires the password every single time we try to re-connect. When I enter the password it tells me it s incorrect. I m very disappointed with this product and, of course, my return window is closed so now I m stuck with it.1Best solution for extending WiFi - read this review to understand whyAs I said in one of my previous reviews, buying technical products based on Amazon ratings can be pretty frustrating. NETGEAR EX6100 AC750 is a great example of why that is. Most of the complaints that you'll find in 1 star reviews are based on misunderstanding on how this type of product works. If you'll use this piece of hardware to extend your WiFi coverage - expect 50% less bandwidth when you connect to it since it uses that 50% to communicate with router. If you need 100% speed, you do have alternatives:1. This devices supports Access Point mode. Simply move slider from Extender to Access Point, connect LAN cable to this device and then use same SSID and password for WiFi.2. If you don't want to spend time laying LAN cable, you can use one band (2.4 GHz) to communicate with router and other one (5 GHz) to communicate with devices. This can be problematic because most of the devices support only 2.4 GHz... and 5 GHz band signal will tie you closer to router.3. Finally, you can try with other devices like TP-LINK AV500 that utilize powerline:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWRUICG/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00AWRUICG&linkCode=as2&tag=codeproject-20&linkId=5LNJ5PAFCLAMLAIGIn my case, this product was the best option because even with 50% dropdown in communication I get 15 MBit/s Internet (instead of 30 MBit/s Internet). And when I have time to spare I'll connect it with LAN cable. On the other hand, TP-LINK AV500 would require me to connect WiFi router / buy WiFi add-on at endpoint (since it is powerline + LAN).So, if you have problems with WiFi coverage, this is probably the BEST solution for you. If you need to connect just one device using LAN cable in some remote place in your home, powerline may work (it depends on how your power lines are installed, I had really bad experience with powerline tech).Just whatever you do, do not buy extra antennas for your router. I've left two detailed reviews on products that I've tried out and their price ($20+) is way too much for what they offer. Here are the reviews I mention, they contain more recommendations on EX6100:Asus WL-ANT-157 Antenna:http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R17FRD2FTCRJIB/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B005UBNJ48&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=codeproject-20&linkId=DGRPI7ZB4KW6LULE3 x 9dBi 2.4GHz 5GHz Dual Band WiFi RP-SMA Antenna:http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1R1FM9PYRM8VM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8linkCode=ur2&tag=codeproject-20&linkId=TUFLTMG2TA7W7DYR&ASIN=B00DMJI9TA&camp=1789&creative=390957&Speaking of price, another VERY important point - buy REFURBISHED EX6100 (~$40). Devices like this are highly unlikely to malfunction - because of low heat generation and no mechanical parts. If they work within 90 days (refurbished guarantee period)... it's highly likely they'll work for years without problems.Let that be it for this review. If you have any questions, feel free to leave comment and I'll try to answer. For example, I see few reviews mention that EX6100 doesn't allow you to setup same SSID/password as your primary network, and have your devices autoswitch. That's simply untrue - you can easily setup same SSID/password in EX6100 administration. Finally, if this review helped you, I would appreciate marking it as helpful. Whatever you decide, good luck with your WiFi network!5Took 3-4 minutes to set up - I have FULL bars now!I just installed my new Netgear N300 and I am WAY impressed! I live in a pretty big ranch-style home, so the modem is connected in a front room where the DirecTV is already wired in to connect to the modem. It's far away from the other rooms, but I couldn't really move the modem closer to where I work on my computer in the back of the house. After researching different options and reading reviews to see which were genuine, I chose this model and was hoping for the best.I am VERY happy with this Netgear extender so far (even though I've only had it connected for about 30 minutes).I read through the instructions and they were easy to follow, but I'll just explain what I did, which only took 3-4 minutes and required almost NO WORK on my part.1. Plug the Netgear extender in an outlet in the same room or very near your modem/router. This will help it pair quickly with your modem.2. Let the lights on the Netgear light up from amber/red and wait until you see the various LED light up green. If nothing happens, try pressing the "on/off" button on the side of the Netgear.3. Press the "WPS" button on the Netgear FIRST; then within 2 minutes (immediately is fine), press the "WPS" button on your modem.Note: If you don't have a WPS button, look at the instructions for how to hook up your extender using a browser - it's easy.4. Once you click the WPS buttons on each device, it will start pairing -- you will see the Netgear do a little light show for a minute. Once the lights are green and stable, you can now unplug it.5. Bring your Netgear somewhere in-between your modem/router placement and where you need it to extend your WiFi into (like a bedroom, living room) - remember, don't place the extender too far away from the modem or it won't connect, which defeats the purpose. --- I placed mine in the middle of the hallway leading back to the back of the house - a nice half-way point.6. Plug the Netgear into the outlet and wait until it turns green again (all lights that illuminate should turn green if you have placed it in a great spot). If one of the lights is amber, try moving it closer to the modem.7. If all lights are green, you're good! Leave it plugged in and point the antenna to beam the signal to where you want it.8. Use your computer or smartphone and go to your WiFi options.9. The extender will have AUTOMATICALLY created the WiFi choice for you: it will be your EXISTING WiFi name with "_EXT" at the end. Easy as pie.10. Click that WiFi name and login using your existing password. You're DONE!I looked on my computer and immediately saw I had FULL bars for once, and so I ran a speed test and it's SO much better now. Now I can actually use my smart TV again, my phone, and my computer in my back room and everywhere else back here! The installation was so simple. While it looks like a long ordeal with the instructions above, that's just because it's written out. It really only takes 3-4 minutes. It just consists of plugging it in, pressing WPS buttons, waiting for the Netgear to turn green, plugging the Netgear in where you need to extend your WiFi, and clicking "connect" on the new WiFi name that it automatically creates for you.I could not be more impressed with the simplicity and how easy they made it. I'm pretty good at tech-related stuff, but the fact that I had to do nothing made me happy. Definitely worth the money.5Solved My Dilemma In minutesAs I work from home, I wanted to use my laptop on my deck to enjoy some of nice summer days but I kept losing my internet connection. It was becoming too hard to get anything accomplished until I purchased this NETGEAR AC750 WiFi Range Extender with Gigabit. There were three major things I solved:1. QUICK ARRIVAL OF THE PRODUCT. Times flying and I wanted to get quality internet connection as soon as possible. The product arrived in 2 days via Prime2. EASY SET UP FOR A NOVICE. I am not technology savvy yet I had this extender set up in less than 10 minutes. It helped that I had read prior reviews so I knew what to look for.3. WORKS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED. I immediately went to my dead spot on the deck and began surfing the web. Downloaded a few items and no buffering or dead connection.I have had the product for a few weeks and not single issue. I can be out 50-75 feet in my yard, still strong signal. This product was well worth my money and I would purchase again in a heartbeat.5Impossible to setup - Avoid!Recommended by xfinity, this POS is totally impossible to setup. I am a software engineer.. Did not show up on my network, xfinity does not have wpa setup, so you have to use the web browser. Will not show up. Used the ethernet cable..connecting to the recommended web address just timed out. No network installation assistant mentioned in documentation found anywhere to download. 1 last try to netgear tech support and it's going back.If I as a 30 year computer pro can not get it to work out of the box, imagine your problems! Total disaster.. find something better..190 kbps to 2.3 MbpsThis was seriously worth the money. After reading some of the bad reviews I was a bit hesitant but I decided to give this extender a try.I am so very glad I did; it has boosted the wifi speed from 90 kbps to 2.3 Mbps.Whereas before it took me a solid 20 seconds to load a regular webpage, I can now stream Netflix with no issues whatsoever.5I don't write reviews often but this warranted a review ...I don't write reviews often but this warranted a review.I didn't expect much as I had tried different ways to extend wifi range to a detached building about 150-200 ft away. All have proved not effective as advertised and not worth using. My laptop shows a signal so weak it was actually unusable. The Netgear AC1200 was a breeze to set up. Connect a cat5 between the AC1200 and your computer, not a router but straight from the pc to the AC1200, enter the setup address in your browser, it will ID an avail network, enter the password and you're done.I took it to the building, changed my network to the AC1200 and bam 100% sig strength.BUY ONE, IT WORKS5MULTIPLE UNITS all stopped working after 4-5 months I have gone through 3 of these things already. (2 have already been replaced by Netgear's RMA warranty process). Either I'm the unluckiest person who buys Netgear products, or this wifi extender has a major flaw. ALL THREE of these that I've used, have stopped working between 4-5 months. It was not an issue of vicinity to my Netgear router...they were all used in the same place and showed the exact same symptoms when they stopped working. All of the lights on the unit are green when setup properly and unit has good connections, 4-5 months later, the unit lights will turn red and orange, and the signals will be nonexistent. No amount of resetting, or reconfigurations solves the problem....they just go dead. Netgear has been pretty good at sending me replacements, but it costs me shipping costs (nearly $20) each time I receive a replacement. Why should I have to replace a $100 wifi extender every 4-5 months?? 1Easy to Set Up, Works as Advertised = Fast, fast, fast We have a strangely proportioned house - very narrow and long, and it's big enough that we have had a hard time building good wifi coverage. We can get decent 2G throughout most of the house, but we pay for 100MBPS service, and we can only get close to that number if we're using our 5G network.(For those who don't know, in very basic terms, because of their frequencies, 5G is able to carry data higher speeds but gets blocked by walls and other solid objects, while 2G slips right through those barriers but can't support the speed. It's a trade-off, but one that I was trying to get past.)I've tried many, many wifi routers and extenders, and the combination of this extender with the Netgear AC5300 Nighthawk X8 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8500-100NAS) is by far the best solution I've found yet. We get FAST 5G service all over the house and well into our yard. Right now, I'm sitting as far as I could be in the house from the Nighthawk router, and two rooms away from the AC1200 range extender, and I'm getting over 118Mbps download and 22.5Mbps upload, both higher than the rates we're guaranteed by our ISP.I've never had to deal with Netgear's customer service (or at least not in the last decade), so I can't speak to that, but all of this equipment set up painlessly and has literally worked without fail since I set it up six months ago. The combo isn't cheap, but it works exactly as they claim, so I can't complain. 5I purchased this item from Amazon to extend my wireless ...I purchased this item from Amazon to extend my wireless network which already has a NETGEAR router. I tried to set it up as described in the manual and was unable to set it up. There was a problem with passwords and after about an hour I gave up and unplugged the extender. After that my wireless network was not accessable by any of my devices. I had to call NetGEAR help center. Because my NETGEAR router was past 90 days I had to buy a sercice contract for 150 dollars!! Then in took almost 2 hours just to get my wireless network back up and running and they couldnt help me setup the network extender. So even though I plan on returning the extender to AMAZON for a refund Im out 150 dollars and 2 hours of frustration. DONT BUY THIS.1
