Customer Reviews

Used for amateur radio antenna supportI purchased this tripod to have a base for a vertical antenna, though I also use it with the MFJ-2100 Octopus Antenna setup. The tripod is well-built, sturdy, and at a great price point. Considering similar tripods sold in the amateur radio market in the $160.00 range, this was an EXCELLENT value.Even with eight feet of extra PVC mast atop, there is no movement in my MFJ-2100 system. When using a single vertical, no weight is needed to balance out the twenty foot telescoping mast I use with the tripod to get 33' of wire in the air for 40 meters. An awesome value considering the specs, AND you even get a carry bag!73 de K5SFC5Pretty decent, for the moneyI like it. It's not who knows what, actually pretty decent boom stand. Some say that it's not air cushioned... Well, it is. Main (vertical) extension is air cushioned. Boom arm unfortunately is not cushioned. Something to keep in mind when folding it down. Some say that it takes extra force to tighten main clamp on the boom arm, well... I took the section apart, and tightened the clamp with vise grip pliers. Looks like that's what it needed, works like a charm now.All in all, like mentioned above, I like it.4Good enough. This does what I need it to do - fits in a carry-on suitcase and extends to 8.5 feet. However, the quality is low. One of the bolts that tightens the sections was the wrong size and would not tighten properly until I replaced it with a new bolt. I went ahead and replaced all bolts because they seemed low quality and only cost 0.25 for new bolts. I have similar manfrotto lightstands (nanostand) that are obviously way better quality. The sections on this flashpoint stand have to be tightened as tight as humanly possible to prevent the extension stands from slipping. My manfrotto stand on the other hand only needs slight tension to feel solid. This stand is just good enough for me to keep using it (and is the only compact stand that goes this high) but not good enough for me to recommend it. With some slight improvements this could be a great stand. 3 stars for using lots of metal and not much plastic.3Very Disappointed!!!Clever design. Sturdy tubing and leg assembly. Unfortunately I could not tighten the bolts used to adjust the height tight enough to keep the upper portion of the stand fixed in place. I striped the the bolt on the first use. I'm going to try to replace the bolt, but not sure that will fix the issue. It appears the collar the bolt fits through is to stiff and doesn't properly compress against the the tube enough to hold it in place. Cannot recommend this product as is. If the manufacturer can fix the tightening issue, looks like it would be a great product for a reasonable price.2Close but no cigarThis would be the only stand I owned if the hardware was better. The height was phenomenal, the compactness when folded was right on, the sturdy feel of the stand was impeccable. I used 'was' because I returned the product. You had to work hard to tighten the levels enough not to fall down, which felt like you were stripping the hardware every time, and the top level would not stay up no matter how hard you tightened down the screw. I would stay away from this stand until they figure out the problem.UPDATE: I bought another stand about a year after the first. The quality was a tiny bit better, and it works well after tightening and replacing the hardware. It is one of the only compact light stands that get close to 8 feet. It did well with a hotshoe flash and a 60" umbrella, but I would not trust it with strobe/alien bee. It is the only compact stand that goes this tall and works just well enough to get the job done.3Works for price, not great for long time use.Got the job done, but needed some fixing prior to use..Package arrived with a strange tear in the top, looked like it had been reseated after being previously opened. Picture included.Upon pulling out the stand, I realized the top section of the stand was stuck and would rise. Had to run to a store and buy some hex keys to take a few sections apart. Found the problem was internal, the bottom part that usually holds the section in place had been bent outta shape. Fixed with needle nose pliers, and put the stand back together and it worked. However, when extended fully the stand "leans" and doesn't stand straight.Again though, after all the trouble, it did hold a speed light and umbrella just fine for one portrait shoot.I'll be looking into getting a different Nano tripod soon.2/52SturdySturdier than I thought it would be5Works great Only issue is when extending last section it hits ...Works greatOnly issue is when extending last section it hits a hard spotHave to put little extra pull to get to finish extendingI mount a go pro 5 black to video softball gamesGot to invest in some sand bags to help hold down due to 10-13 mph wind almost blowing overOther than that I love itIt draws a lot of looks and conversation also5Great mix of low weight and sturdiness.I ve used this stand indoors with up to a 7 parabolic umbrella on an Xplor600 TTL extension head for wedding formals and it worked fine (sandbagged of course). It ll hold the Xplor without the extension head, but with a fairly large modifier it flexes a bit too much for my comfort (especially outside) and feels a bit too tippy. For an AD200, speedlite, or even a dual head ADB2 it seems fine. It s also nice that it s air cushioned to help protect your light just in case it should be accidentally loosened and drop . It s no C-stand as far as sturdiness goes, but if you need a lightweight portable stand and can deal with the 7 height (there is a taller model available if you need one), then this is a great value stand.5Thx AdoramaFor taking your sweet time shipping. Whatever working on two weeks?1
