Customer Reviews

Not in love with this stone 2 Problems.First, it is a soft stone. If you sharpen a lot of knives and like going fast using pressure this stone is not my favorite. The shapton 5000 is much more friendly for my technique. The softness of this stone makes me go much slower than i prefer and have begun to not even use this stone. I am stopping with the 3000 Naniwa now rather than going further.Second, the advertising is completely false. It specifically says in the title no base but comes with a base. They use an industrial glue to attach the stone and it is impossible to remove. The base is a cheap plastic and those who sharpen on a sink base or a rubber universal stone holder it really is not preferable to have the plastic base on it. 3Good product My husband likes it... 5Improved my knive performance As I expected from the description, and even better results in practice. Smooth transaction 5Chosera 5000 - Not as good as the other lower grit stones! I love Chosera stones, and I like the base. I am not impressed with the 5000. I have two Naniwa Chosera 400 stones, an 800 a 1000, a 2000 Naniwa Pro (no base) a Chosera 3000 and this Chosera 5000. I love all of the other stones. This 5000 stone seems not much finer than the 3000, and seems muddy. It also seems to be thirsty. I don't like the feedback as much. Maybe it needs to be broken in better. I tried nagura stonses, but only the cheap synthetic ones that are sold on amazon. I have not tried soaking it. Maybe it will get better with use, but I am likely to start using a Shapton, or some other brand soon to see if I like one of those better. 3Falls apart I have all the chosera stones from 400-10,000. I have had 3 of these 5000. First one ended up crazing and cracking. It fell apart. I assumed it was poor after care on my part, so I got another. Shortly after the second arrived, I found a very cheap one online, so I got it as well. The second one did the same thing in just a few months. I sold the third and will never buy another. The stone is fine, fast, and has great feedback, but something is off about the binder in the 5000. Would not recommend for knives or razors. 23 stars... Just being honest. I don't see what all the fuss is about. I must say, I absolutely love the 400 grit, and the 1k is pretty good as well. This 5k stone was not my favorite. This stone was VERY THIRSTY! Not what I would call splash n go. Needed a LONG soak, longer than the 400. In fact, I was having trouble keeping it wet for quite a while. It got irritating. I kept getting strange air pockets and bubbling coming from between the bottom of the stone, and the base. Makes no sense that this stone is nearly black in color, never mind the picture, it is not purple... more of black smoke color. You cannot see the load up, why did they not make this stone white? Or orange?Watching the metal load up on the stone in higher grits is one of my favorite parts. The overall feel is similar to the 1k, tad bit softer. On the good side, this stone was a great price. Since it is the older version, not only is it bigger, and comes with a nagura, but it was considerably cheaper than the new version of Chosera. The current is well over 150 dollars, saved a lot of money here. It does leave a fantastic polish for a 5k. Overall, I am happy, but I expected more. I am slowly finding that I very much prefer Naniwa super stones over chosera, as goofy as that may sound. 3They have a base. I love Chosera stones. The "no base" in the description comes from the measurement of the stone, 25mm, without a base, "no base". These stones come with a base and are a deal. The new choseras are called Naniwa "Professional" stones. They cost a bunch more, are only 20mm thick and do not come with a base. 5Sharp Works great with my other stones. This one took a little longer to arrive. 5... I received had an attached base it is just like the other Choseras I have it came just like ... As mentioned by someone before the one I received had an attached base it is just like the other Choseras I have it came just like the photo 5Five Stars Just as described! 5
