Great sound quality; good price. These microphones work great in my home studio. I use them for acoustic guitar and voice with my Tascam DP03 Porta-Studio, which provides the phantom power. Sensitivity is great, and sound reproduction is excellent. I have always used dynamic mics until now, but I will be sticking with these. Build quality appears to be very good also. Great mics for a great price. 5Solid choice for home user These are great mics with high quality audio recording. They are better than I expected, and with certain EQ settings in a DAW, they can sound twice as expensive. Overall, a definite buy for a home studio producer or someone who just wants to learn to sing. Obviously you need a recording interface to use these, and they do not come with an XLR cable, so make sure to buy one if your audio interface doesn't come with one or you don't have any.I haven't used the 991, however, as I am only recording voice. 5Newer model is not as well made as earlier versions I have to sets of these and the more modern ones are not as well built. There's a noticeable difference in weight between the older and newer models. The case is more-cheaply made as well. And the element in the large mic broke free in transit and I had to disassemble the unit and put it back together with superglue. 3beautiful item(s) for a beautiful price This microphone is so sensitive that it picked up the noise from the fan that was also in the room. I have tried two other mics and did not get the clarity I received from the MXL 990 or the MXL 991. Although you have to speak/rap/sing directly in the front of the mic. Still sounds great. 5pretty great mics. i've recorded most of an album with these mics alone. the 990 is a real good room. i use it for recording vocals and also i use it to mic up the kick drum on my drum set. along with the 991 above the snare and hi hat, i can get a pretty full sound out of my drum set but i wouldn't say it's all too satisfactory, i would use some more mics if i had them but the 990 and 991 together get the job done. i have done some live stuff with them too and they havent dissapointed me there either. overall i think that these microphones are a great buy for an experienced producer who knows how to mic things properly, otherwise they are also a good place to start learning. its a good buy. 4Nice for the Price! I pretty much knew what I was getting when ordering these mics. Something cheap, but more than usable. As with most inexpensive electronics, you have to be gentle with them. They sound quite good though. I recorded a one man percussion ensemble with them, including hand claps, foot stomps, stick clicks, djembe, and cajon, and was very pleased with the results, even in Garage Band, which has a very limited editing process compared to Pro Tools, which is what I usually use. Also, my wife and I recorded some homemade karaoke, and that sound good as well. Definitely recommend them if you just need some mics. 4Really good mics for low budget projects For that price its the best you can find. I use them to record drums on my semi-acoustic room and it works pretty damn good. He's been recording his own music for years and he is picky when it comes to his equipment but he loved these. 5Great mics for the money These mics are impressive, especially when you consider how inexpensive they are. Both mics have a nice flat frequency response, so the recorded sound is very close to the source sound and very little "corrective" equalization is necessary - I find this especially useful when recording a guitar through an amp where the tone has been created in the outboard effects chain. That said, when these mics are combined with a digital recording interface to record vocals, the resulting recording can sound a bit antiseptic (as opposed to the generally warmer, colored tones from analog equipment), but a little tinkering with the EQ and some compression to add color and all is well, especially on vocals. 4Excellent sound In simple words: they sound good. They deliver a nice, clear, undistorted sound. To me the point of comparation is against the sound source. This mics capture the sound of the source with great detail and I can hear a sound that is close to equal to the source. The price is just excellent. The quality of the product is good, under the usage I have gave to them on live sound settings I haven't had problems. I know there are other mics of different qualities and prices to compare this set but the point to me is that if the sound is good to you and your audience the goal is accomplished. 5
