Customer Reviews

Catches 95-99% of the dust. This is the absolute best for installing recessed lighting, or any time you have to drill a hole in your ceiling. The blow caught 95-99% of my drywall dust, and kept the mess minimal. I only drilled 4 holes (so far), and it does get pretty filled pretty quick, so clean it between holes for best visibility.5Great product. Would recommend to othersThis product worked just as described. Very well made. I used it to drill holes for 20 recessed can lights (6"). Catches all the dust. You will need to wipe the inside periodically as dust collects and makes it difficult to see through. I used this product with a Makita 18 Volt LXT Cordless Drill. Some people commented about the red bushing coming loose, but I had no problem at all. I would definitely recommend this product if you are going to be installing recessed can lights and don't to have drywall debris all over. It already paid for itself with saving on labor for plastic protection and cleanup.5Must-have item for recessed light projectI borrowed a similar product from my friend. It is not deep enough. So there is plenty of space between the bowl and ceiling. So dust and particles from ceiling can go anywhere. I needed to put plastic bags for garbage can to gather dusts. This one is deep enough so that you can seal area you are drilling. Although the bowl is not crystal clear, you can still see the exact position of you drill bit. After drilling, just wipe the inside of bowl with wet paper tower.5Buy if installing recessed lighting 5 stars for just the convenience of not having to put plastic sheeting down or moving furniture. I used this for 8 recessed lighting holes in ceiling. I didn't want to spend the money on it and was trying to come up with my own dust shield. (Ball cut in half? garbage bag around drill...?)In the end, just buy this. Works great. Collected all dust. Nothing on floor. 5If you want to cut a hole through plaster or drywall, this thing is perfect.I've used a lot of other flimsy clamshell plastic shields or make-shift devices to try and prevent drilling a hole in a ceiling from becoming a huge mess. This tool is the solution, and I'm surprised that you can't find it easily in every big box construction store. It's literally perfect for the job. Makes a nice seal with the ceiling or wall. Is translucent enough so that you can see what you're doing. Doesn't let much dust spill out of the bottom hole. You don't have to reset or re-adjust as your depth changes through thicker materials.Even if you have just a few holes to cut, this tool makes the job and cleanup so much easier it's worth every penny.5It works great . . . you just have to know how to use it.Today, I cut 15 holes in 5/8 inch drywall (tomorrow I will cut another 12 holes) in an eight foot ceiling using this dust bowl. It worked great. It kept the dust and the blown fiberglass insulation under control. Would not want to try it without this product. I am using an Milwaukee Accessory 6" Dozer Hole Saw with Milwaukee 7/16" quick change large hole saw arbor and a Ryobi 18 volt 1/2 in. cordless drill and it worked great. Have no idea how someone would only get one or two holes cut and have problems unless it was operator error (just make sure you have play between arbor and the bowl otherwise is could be disaster). Dust bowl looks brand new and I am over half way done. I would purchase again. I highly recommend.5Brilliant ideaI heard about these on an episode of This Old House so when I decided to put in 6" can lights I tried this out and was surprised at how well it worked. I still covered the work area somewhat because I was skeptical but this bowl caught all the dry wall dust and insulation - next time I won't bother.5BrilliantI absolutely love this thing. It seems so simple but prevents so much debris from getting on you and everything around you. I used it to cut 6 can light holes. I did have to rinse it between each hole so I could see alignment, but just running it under water and drying with a paper towel did the trick! Worth every penny!5No dust drilling in plaster. It works perfectly! It works perfectly! Having recenly had recessed lights installed in the plaster ceiling of our dining room, my wife and I were prepared for plaster dust flying everywhere when we had the electrician do nine new cans in our living room and hallway.I handed the electrician the Morris bowl and asked him to try it. I copied a few suggestions from an electricians blog: press entire circumference firmly against the ceiling; hold it against the ceiling for 30 seconds to let the dust settle in the bow; clean out the bowl with a vac and damp rag after each hole.We were delighted to see that there was almost no dust that escaped from the drilled hole. I also held a shop-vac near the hole to catch the really fine powder. The electrician took off his dust mask and goggles after the first hole. This is a great solution to a very messy problem. The electrician ordered his own Morris bowl and said that he could knock a lot of the clean-up time off his future can installations.5Great for dust control I bought this for drilling 6" holes in our ceiling for new recessed lighting. I used a 6" hole saw from Starrett that was 2-1/4" deep and it fit great inside this dust bowl. After drilling 6 holes in the ceiling, I washed it out and got the rest of the dust off from it, and it looked like new again.I had my shop vac out and ready to go in case, but tried drilling one hole without the vacuum to see how much dust would be created. The amount of dust getting out during the drilling wasn't worth the effort of trying to hold vacuum and drill the hole at the same time (I did this part of the project on my own, so no one help hold the vacuum hose). There was some visible dust on the ceiling around the drill holes, but that was remedied with a damp cloth. If you're considering this for a home remodel project to keep the dust contained and manageable, buy it! This is completely worth the money spent. I definitely recommend this to anyone. 5Well worth it - I wish I purchased it earlier! When I first saw this item, I thought $20+ dollars was a bit excessive for a piece of plastic and I didn't purchase. I installed 6 recessed lights in my office, taped several plastic drop cloths all over the room and still managed to get sheet rock dust everywhere.... Then I purchased this dust bowl before doing 2 additional rooms, and was frustrated that I didn't purchase this in the first place. This worked perfectly - I found once I cut the hole and stopped the drill, leaving it in place for 30 seconds allowed the dust to settle and left me with virtually zero dust clean up. I also found that pushing the bowl up and down against the ceiling helped draw out the airborne dust from the hole and also helped.5A Thousand Holes...I am a residential service electrician. I add lighting/fan/circuit upgrades on the reg, sometimes all day for 8 or 10 hours. I have had this bowl for YEARS. This dust catcher makes you look like a hero, genius, and professional all at once. I never tried Blu-Mol or Rack-a-tiers version. But I can tell you I have drilled probably 1,000 different sized holes with this bowl on my DeWalt cordless 20v drill. I use anywhere from a 9/16" paddle bit for toggle bolts, to a 6 3/8" hole saw for can lights. It gets so coated with fine gypsum dust that I can't see through it, but a longer pilot bit and pre-poking your center marks goes a long way to negate needing to see through the bowl. Spend the extra few bucks. If you are cutting sloppy imperfect holes by hand, or throwing evil hell of mess all over some nice person's house, step up.5
