Customer Reviews

Not standard (802.3af) input.Decent price for what it is. I've never been all that big of a fan of Mikrotik due to the management mechanism, but for what it does, and for what most folks are going to use it for, it's a fine switch. With that said, this switch is marketed as being able to take Power Over Ethernet (PoE) **IN** to avoid a power brick at the remote end. I intended to deploy several of these on the end of PoE legs with the idea being that if they locked up, I could power-cycle them from the powering upstream switch (I'm the network guy, the equipment on the end isn't my concern). Well, they don't take standard PoE in, it's a hacky passive PoE that they'll accept. So, all in all, it's an OK switch.3Speed!I have a wired home network that I wanted to upgrade to gigabit and stumbled on Mikrotik products. I replaced my Linksys BEFSR81 router and EZXS55W switch with the Mikrotik RB750GL router and two Mikrotik RB260GS switches. Everything basically worked right out of the box. The only issue I had was that the router and two switches all have the same default IPs, so I had to change the IPs of the two switches.I can't believe the improvement in internet and file transfer speeds by going gigabit. I wish I would have upgraded sooner.5A fantastic managed switch for a surpising price point! My only regret is that I hadn't found these earlier. They are a great addition to my network. When it comes down to it, it's actually a 6 port switch when you are able to utilize the SFP slot. I use it to link 2 switches on separate ends of the house. It is fully manageable and easy to create and utilize VLANs to segregate device types. I run several IoT devices, a CCTV network, wireless, and wired devices and keeping things easy to manage is so helpful.Listen, I purchased the MikroTik router, 2 switches, and 2 controlled APs for $250... beat that!5Can't beat this on features/priceThis is a neat little managed switch. Much like the RB951 router I bought this to accompany, this came with no manual. Unlike the RB951, I don't think a manual is really necessary. SwOS is a fairly straightforward web interface. The switch offers VLANs, some bandwidth egress control per port, port forwarding, port mirroring, statistics, SFP module support, and some other features. It seems too much to throw at just five ports, really.Still, this switch pretty much just works out of the box. I had to change the management IP, but and I think that was it. This switch is in nearly the same price range as unmanaged gigabit switches, so if you only need a few more ports I see no reason you wouldn't strongly consider this switch.5Practically perfectThe Mikrotik RB switches are overshadowed by the company's famous routers but don't let that fool you. They are absolute gems: fast, compact, fully featured switches that can reliably form the backbone of a major network installation. For a long time my workhorse was the old RB 250 model, a great fit for tight spaces. Unfortunately I occasionally ran into some hardware reliability problems; my guess is the small package just had a hard time dealing with the generated heat. The newer RB260 line comes in a slightly bigger box, a minus if you are on a tight space budget but the rock solid reliability is worth the size increase if you ask me (part of the increase is due to the SFP cage, something I personally don't need.)Here are the pluses and minuses as I see them:+ Small size+ Gigabit ethernet+ Fast, hardware-based switching+ All the bells and whistles that the average LAN needs (vlan support, etc.)+ Very reasonable cost for a professional grade switch+ Also comes in a POE capable version (RB260-GSP) that offers passive POE in ports 2-5. Great to feed devices from Mikrotik, Ubiquity, etc.- You can only manage these switches via a browser, there is no winbox type client for them. (That gives the impression these devices are second priority to RouterOS for the development team.) Browser support is finicky. For example, if I try to see the Link page of the POE version of the switch with an MS browser the POE section of the page often doesn't show up (I have had better luck with Chrome.)- The one feature I sorely miss in these switches is that ability to label the inputs in the UI (e.g. "Room 2316", etc.) A comparable switch from Ubiquity, the Toughswitch offers that and it's a very nice creature comfort (though I'll pick the RB260 over it any day, it's just a cooler running and more reliable device.)- The pure switch (RB2xx) line tops out at 5 ports, it would be great to have models with a higher number of ports (without going into the more complex and expensive CRS switch+router product line.)- There is no longer a version of the RB2xx switches with no SFP cage, so you are getting that (and paying for it) whether you need it or not.Bottom line: my network couldn't live without these switches; I just hope Mikrotik continues to develop this very handy line of non-routing, low cost hardware-based switches.4Working well!Got this switch today, and it seems to be working well. Everything is as expected. I also purchased SFP transceivers from 6com (Amazon listing, "6COM for Mikrotik Compatible S-85DLC05D"). I powered down each item to insert the transceiver (the other is in a hEX S router). Soon as I plugged in the cable, the connection came right up. Also, I like the idea of grounding things, so I ended up getting a Ubiquiti POE injector to power the switch. Specs listed "passive POE", for I used the Ubiquiti POE-24-12W-G, and that seems stable.5Wrong DescriptionThe listing includes this line in the description"Ports 2-5 can power other PoE capable devices with the same voltage as applied to the unit. "This is not true. The Seller shipped the version without PoE Out2Great little switch!Bought this after deciding to re-terminate the phone lines in my house (used Cat5E) from RJ11 to RJ45 to provide wired gigabit ethernet around the house. Picked this particular unit because it had a wider operating temperature range than most other switches, could be powered by PoE, and was cheap. It's in a weatherproof enclosure mounted on an outside wall powered with a passive PoE adapter. Been running since November with no issues whatsoever. Speed tests show full gigabit transfer speeds and <1ms latency times.10/24/16 Update: It's been almost two years since I stuck it in its enclosed box where it's seen temperatures from single digits in the winter to 115 in the summer and not a single hiccup. The only restarts this thing has experienced have been for firmware updates or when I've been messing with the upstream POE switch that powers it.5Great little SOHO SwitchI had been looking around for a great little switch for a long time. I came across this switch loved the fact that it was a Gigabit Ethernet switch AND it had the capability to create a SPAN port. This can't normally be done unless you get a low end Cisco switch with the correct software. So the fact that I paid a little over $40 makes this switch a steal! This switch is reliable, and the setup was neat; the switch is easy to use and the controls are self explanatory. I would highly recommend this switch for anyone who wants to setup their network with a passive network tap feeding into a dedicated intrusion detection system.5Great little switch! This is a great value for a managed switch (half the cost of other managed switch options with Gigabit and SFP options, although I haven't attempted using the SFP cage yet for a fiber run or 6th Ethernet port). The SwitchOS interface isn't as polished or capable as MikroTik's RouterOS interface, but it is effective at setting up VLAN tagging and a management address. If you want a more feature-rich switch and a more powerful interface, you would need to go to one of the Cloud Router Switch (CRS) devices, but the cost is significantly higher. I prefer these switches when I need a small switch (where a cheap Netgear or D-Link might normally be used) but want management capability.4
