Customer Reviews

Great for my Windows Media Center recordings! I got these rewritable DVDs in order to watch TV shows recorded on my computer. I'm new to the whole DVR realm and don't have everything connected in my house in order to send TV recordings from my computer to my preferred TV. Even though write-once blank DVDs are quite cheap, I couldn't bring myself to creating that much waste (I am not into "collecting" shows). These rewritable DVDs are perfect for watching a show once and then reusing them. Even better is removing the commercials on the computer before copying them to the DVD (DVRMSToolbox is clumsy for this, but I eventually got it to work). Commercial-free TV is the best! 5Inexpensive, but flawed Although a great bargain, the emulsion on these DVD-RW disks have uneven concentric markings, and a few had vertical flaws missing emulsion, rendering a 40% usefulness. I use 4 different DVD drives, so this isn't a burner problem. I could understand a faster write-speed product (requiring a higher laser output) to have rewrite problems, but for these 4x speed disks, I would recommend another brand (RiDATA disks have held up to 40+ rewrites successfully over several years) 2Memorex DVDs & CDs Memorex has always been the brand that I've always used & relied heavily upon! - I also use their DVD/CD ExPressit Template Designs & their accurate (sticky back) "CD/DVD Label Creating Pkgs" to make Professional Looking CD labels for my own Solo-Produced CDs at: BlkIndiansMusic dot org as well! - I've only had 1 "unusable" DVD & 2 CDs out of the 400+ CDs & DVDs, I've ever tried to use from Memorex! - Now that's what I call a STERLING RECORD! - All human beings imperfect, but the Memorex Corp. seems to defy both The Laws of "Gravity & Logic" as well! ;-) - This Review applies to the "CD-Rs" the "DVD+R's" & the "DVD+RWs" I specifically use. - I've heavily used my current Memorex DVD+RWs for over 12 yrs now, w/not a single issue with any of 'em, until lately! - Hey, most things eventually wear out, right? - But, I think any product that lasts, trouble free, for over 12 yrs is most definitely quite "cost effective," don't you think? - Even most cars & trucks won't last for over 10 years, now-a-days! ;-) 5They work for me. Seller: Amazon.comPurchased: June 2013The price was $15. They qualified for free shipping at the time. The product arrived undamaged. The disks all functioned correctly.I checked all the files written to the disks (lots of different files types). The files were all readable and could be copied and pasted back to my Western Digital hard drive from the DVDs.I used a LG external DVD drive to write on the disks. It was purchased in 2005. My internal stock DELL DVD drive will read them, but I have not tried writing on these disks with it. The DELL DVD drive was purchased in 2006. Sorry, but I do not really know what else to write about it or know what the exact models are of my DVD drives or anything like that. 5A Different Memorex DVD+RW I have purchased several hundred Memorex DVD+RW discs in the past few years and while I have had an occasional coaster most of the discs worked quite well on the Samsung DVD recorders (two different models) that I have used. My recent order of two 25-disc spindles resulted in my receiving two spindles of Memorex DVD+RWs with a Memorex label that was not the same that has been used on previously received spindles (the label on the spindle was of a different design as was the imprinted design on each disc). The discs looked and felt different. I tried formatting 10 of these discs on both of the DVD recorders and neither of the recorders would work with the DVDs. The DVDs seem to be a completely different manufacture than the discs of the Memorex brand previously putchased. What can I say other than buyer beware. You can assume a certain quality from a brand name and then all of a sudden it is gone. This update on my comments is dated 1/10/2011.I notice that the current Amazon.com product description, for these discs, has been changed to say that the discs are "for newer DVD+R/+RW drives". Make sure you have a newer drive (whatever that means) before you purchase these discs.Any of the reviews, written before mid-2009, (including the "Most Helpful Favorable Review" written 2004,and the ""Most Helpful Critical Review" written 2005) are referring to a quite different DVD+RW than the DVD+RW that is now being sold. My review states that the quality of the DVDs changed at some point in mid-2009. If you read the reviews after mine you will see that there are a number of negative reviews with specificity and they are often followed by good reviews that say things like "I purchased these DVDs and they are great". Maybe these are the people that have newer drives or maybe they have an incentive to write good things about products. I am suggessting that, if you have an older drive, buy these DVDs with caution - or do not buy them at all. 1This was a bad batch and I won't risk money on it again My DVR kept rejecting these with an error message that the disk cannot be recorded on. I kept feeding the disks back into the machine over and over and finally got 5 out of 25 accepted and formatted for use. I threw the rest away. I got my money back. The excuse given to me was that they were probably too old and in the warehouse too long. Really? I'm using other brands of DVD-RW that are over five years old and work perfectly. This was a bad batch and I won't risk money on it again. 1is the longevity questionable? A real world test I first purchased this 25 pack on October 3, 2009, every single disc worked without a flaw in any of my computers, and went from computer to a Magnavox DVR or a Phillips DVR, I've dubbed and rerecorded what I THOUGHT was tons of times. They are in constant use being erased and rerecorded on a daily basis.. although the rotation is only 2 to 4 discs a day and some days one.. here's where I started to have a problem.. with the math, because the product description states "up to a thousand" and if I simply multiply the 4 years times number of days I get 1460 which would be absolutely great because it would mean I was getting well over 1000 rerecords HOWEVER, the fact is not every disc got used every day, most days only one got rerecorded and then put back into rotation, so then you need to, in the "worst case", divide the number of days by the number of discs in rotation..that means about 58 recordings before disc failure.. however, bearing this in mind, that still only comes to a few cents at most for not missing your favourite show that is in conflict with a time slot or another show or work etc. SO in conclusion.. they are grossly exaggerating the 1000's of rerecordings but with this type of media disappearing and only pennies per show compared with a buck or more for ordering something on demand.. I Guess I'll buy them again. Grrr don't exaggerate though!! Well, giving memorex the benefit of the doubt about their 1000s of rerecordings... maybe it's that the recording medium cant last past four years. 4The BEST! I'm doing my own project, and these are just what I needed. Don't buy plain CD-R disks, because if you make a mistake (which you WILL), or if you want to re-record something else later, you cannot reinitialize them on your computer to re-record. You can re-record on these DVD-RWs up to 1000 times each. They are WELL worth the little extra you pay for them, and you don't clutter up our landfills with any discarded plain DVD-Rs. 5These Work Great Have used these for years and they work Great !Got a lot b/c was told they were not going to make them much longer b/ceverything was going digital. 5Very Poor Quality Product I have always regarded Memorex as a company that makes good quality products so when i needed to burn some movies to DVD i purchased 3 packs of these DVD-RW discs (enough to last me a lifetime i thought).I burned the videos to the discs and everything went smooth, not one error, then after i was done i popped them into my DVD player and....Stut stut stuttering video!Every single Memorex DVD-RW that i burned was full of skipping audio, stuttering video and also artifacts appearing on screen every minute or two.My first thought was that my DVD player was busted so i put the discs into my other player,SAME THING!Then i tried burning the movies with my other DVD Burner drive,AGAIN,video and audio was horrible!I even tried burning the videos with different software but no matter what i did the videos came out screwed up and unwatchable.I went through 2 packs of these Memorex DVD-RW discs and every single disc was defective.DO NOT BUY THESE!!!If you want good quality buy some TDK DVD-R discs,i have burned my videos to them and they play 100% perfectly. 2
