Customer Reviews

Almost perfect This cable is great. It is white so it is easy to hide (unless your house is black!), the wires are color coded so you don't have to look for some tiny stripe, and it is real copper wire, not the new copper clad aluminum that everyone seems to be selling. My one complaint is the wire size. I've tried four pairs of wire strippers, and none are a perfect fit for this cable. It either won't cut the sheathing, or it takes a few strands of copper away with the sheathing. Maybe this is metric wire :) 4Mediabridge Is A Heck Of A Good Company! I've been dabbling in high end audio for forty years. During this time I have gotten used to seeing obscenely pricedaudio components, and the oftentimes ridiculously overpriced ancillary equipment that accompanies them - especially audio interconnects and speaker wire.Whoever started Mediabridge must have gotten frustrated with this aspect of audio and decided to do something about it by offering quality audio and speaker cables at an extremely reasonable price. I have purchased several Mediabridge audio cables over the past few years and they continue to work flawlessly, never detracting from the music I listen to.They are also constructed quite well.I recently purchased some of Mediabridge's speaker cable (100 feet/16 gauge) and this product is typical of whatI have experienced with this company for the past several years; excellent quality for a pittance. I also like the fact that the speaker wire is clearly marked in order to make it easy for one to know exactly how many feet they need to cut for their speaker system. The white plastic covering also makes for a nice clean installation. These days, the audio enthusiast really has become spoiled given that for around $200 you can put togetheran extremely nice sounding audio system (integrated amplifier, speakers, speaker wire and a mini 3.5to a pair of RCA interconnects) - All of this equipment being driven by your own wireless computing device.Take into account that YouTube has become the largest venue in the world for free music and you havethe most user friendly environment for music lovers in human history!A big thanks to the folks at Mediabridge for remaining faithful to those of us who love music, yet don't haveboatloads of cash to spend on audio equipment. 5Flexible, quality wire, but 1% shorter than stated After reading the few negative reviews I decided I had better check this wire out before going through a difficult installation process. With any item made in China these days, there's that 1 in 1000 chance you get a dud. Length:There were complaints about the length not being as advertised (e.g. 80ft instead of 100ft) so I unrolled the spool and measured my '100ft' spool and it was 98ft 9", so not too bad. The jacket is labeled with the CLS rating, etc. but I found it also listed the wire as 99 feet long. So Mediabridge IS indeed misrepresenting and they know it, but not as badly as one-star reviewers claimed. The jacket is white, not off-color and the marking is inconspicuous. Flexibility:I found that, for the 16 gauge wire at least that flexibility was good. I didn't expect to get performance here as good as 100% silicone insulation, so I'm very pleased. Continuity:There were some comments about intermittent sound being attributed to the wire. I performed a "wiggle" test, bending the wire in a spiral contortion every foot or so, finding continuous connectivity. Copper Quality:Some complaints were about tarnished copper. I did not find any where I cut or stripped the wire and solderability was consistent with OFC wire. I measured resistance using a 4-point Kelvin method and found that with a 2-amp source, resistance was 3.83 milli-ohms per foot, beating the AWG 16 gauge solid wire spec of 4.016 milli-ohms per foot.I am very pleased with my purchase. 5Quality Cabling I recently moved into a new home, and decided to replace all of the 10+ year old crappy 16 AWG wiring I had with brand new 14 gauge. The white insulation helped to disguise the wire when run along trim boards. The cable is sturdy (heavier than expected!), and is easy to install. The reason I docked a star:1) foot markings on the cable, while appreciated, are hard to see. I would have liked one brightly colored (or jet black) mark/letter at each three foot interval to make the markings easier to spot.2) Whenever I stripped the wire, I was always left with a single... strand?/string? of insulation that I had to cut with scissors. Minor detail.I will very likely use Mediabridge for any future cabling needs! 4Good cable...hard to lay flat. Purchased to use as regular speaker cable...not in wall. I like the fact that it has the outer pvc coating coating protecting the 2 insulated conductors (red & black), but the cable itself is pretty hard to straighten and likes to roll up in strange ways when trying to lay it out on the floor. I can see it would work very well for in wall wiring, but not as good to just run across the floor. I needed some long runs (about 30' each), so this roll was a good price for what I needed. Would probably get the regular zip wire next time if not used for in-wall work. 4Electrician was impressed I have used many types of speaker cable for various audio projects over the years. This is probably the nicest wire product I have used.Starting with the shielding - the outer sleeve was smooth and tough. I think I used the 12awg on the wire cutters for a clean cut on the outer shield. Great for pulling cable long distances. It didn't seem to catch on anything pulling through my ceiling. The inner conductors are also shielded (14awg for clean cut) - gives me confidence something won't short out in the ceiling if something snagged a conductor. The wire gauge was very nice. Individual conductors were each substantial. The plating was a consistent copper color, with no evidence of corrosion. As stated in the headline, the electrician was impressed (yes, I enlisted help, but it was for a big outdoor speaker job). He questioned the need for such a substantial wire, and presumed that I paid a ton for it.I'm totally impressed with this product, and will buy again for future audio projects! 5Flexible, easy to handle, easy to strip I wired this in my in-wall 7.1 system. The wire is good blend of flexibility and durability. The jacketing is abrasion resistant and suitable for pulling through trusses, drilled holes, etc. without damaging the internal wires (normal insulation on those wires). I really like the embedded nylon fiber that is used to tear down the jacketing to expose the wires. However, getting to it requires using side-cutter to cut about 1-cm down the cable to expose it. I used a needle nose to grab the fiber, wrapped it around the point and then pulled down the cable to split the jacketing. Works pretty slick. Suggestion for trimming the wires...use 14 gauge opening to make the cut, but move to 12 gauge to remove the wire insulation. I found using 14 gauge to do both resulted in multiple wire strands breaking and coming off. The copper appears high quality. 5NOT UL Listed The product is fine, and it is ETL listed (and the cable is stamped with ETL), so it meets my needs - but I specifically chose this because it was described as UL Listed, had a picture of the package that showed the UL logo, and had a picture of the cable with "(UL)". So the picture and the listing is wrong, and for someone specifically requiring UL certification, the listing is not true. 4EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY - PERFECT FOR 7.1 DIGITAL SURROUND SYSTEM INSTALL Quality: So I updgraded my whole video system to 4K, and then asked myself the question, "why am I still using sucky thin speaker wire when I have 4K digital?" The first thing you'll notice is how heavy the box is when it arrives. This is great quality, ridiculously thick, 35-strand, ALL copper wire! Repaced my old (probably 18 gauge "copper clad") wires throughout my 7.1 surround sound system and can definitely tell the difference, especially with the new 4K av receivers (I like Yamaha) with Dolby Atmos/THX/etc. digital sound.Installation: The insulation is very thick, so in a couple spots had to cut off the insulation to fit the (also thick) wire through my rubber runners on the floor (my problem, not Mediabridges). Noting I can't complain about the exceptional quality/thickness of the wire or insulation, and this wire would be perfect for running through walls (I didn't have to). Used this wire with the Mediabridge gold-plated banana plugs, so much easier plugging into the back of the amp now! Glad I got the 200 ft spindle as 100 would not be nearly enough for 7 speaker surround system (had to use 25-30 ft ea for the 4 surround (side/rear) speakers, 10-12 ft for each front speaker, 5-6 ft for the center speaker, so I still have a good 60 ft leftover for any future projects. Noting my living room is not too big, so in a larger home could see using up the entire spindle.Does size matter? The 16 gauge wire probably would have been fine, but for a few bucks more for 14 gauge why not get the real deal... and glad I did! Took about 3 hours to run the wires for all 7 speakers, but I have lots of runners on the walls and floors for a clean look. .All the speakers are now actually louder, and clearer, which tells me these wires have signficantly less resistance and better conductivity than my previous wires. 5Go Mediabridge or don t go at all. I really love Mediabridge products. From their raw audio cable to their high quality HDMI, RCA, and other connector cables, I ve never had a single problem with any of them. I d definitely recommend buying their products. 5
