Customer Reviews

Terrible quality control, this was the straw that broke my back. DO NOT BUY THEM HERE, 0 stars. Buy your mechanix gloves from an auto shop so you can try them on and make sure you don't get a lemon. Mine had a terrible seam now I have to go through the extra hassle of returning them and just going to the auto store anyway. Secondly, don't waste your money on mechanix gloves for any type of rough work. Get some genuine leather work gloves from walmart for $12. I've spent over $100 on mechanix gloves for myself THIS MONTH, and was disappointed by everything. I'm not giving them any more money for their dipsoable gloves. I was excited to try the 4x material but the glove seam was disappointing, not to mention the fit wasn't as snug as the original mechanix gloves. Looking for another brand. 1Love Mechanix gloves and have owned and used them forever Love Mechanix gloves and have owned and used them forever. However, this is the first pair I've been really disappointed with. Got them brand new from Amazon, wore them one day to build a deck. Within the first 3 hours of working with the gloves they ripped in one of the fingers. In addition to the extremely poor durability they seemed to be cut differently than just about every other pair of mechanix gloves I've ever worn. They were big and loose even though the sizing was correct. Very poor offering. 1Best work gloves out there There are absolutely the most functional, longest lasting gloves I have ever purchased. I do a lot of work in attics and crawlspaces, so keeping my hands out of the nasty stuff in those places is very important to me. This also has a tendency to wear very hard on gloves. What I like:4X material is really longer lasting than leather. 4x as long? Maybe, maybe not, but definitely the longest lasting gloves I've found. Every other pair of gloves that is readily available is either super bulky and not usable or only lasts me 1-2 weeks. These last me 1-2 months. Comfort and fit is superb, and the fact that there is a velcro strap on the wrist means they keep dirt out. Doesn't it suck when you're wearing gloves and you still get crud up into the fingers of your gloves, and you're like "Where the heck did that come from?" that doesn't happen with these. What I don't like:The aforementioned velcro strap is not as durable as the material on the palms of the gloves. Sometimes as they are getting old (1-2 months, I wear them every day) the strap stops staying closed and I just use some black electrical tape till the palms wear out. 5Material4X is extremely durable, the rest of the glove is not and comes apart quickly. I wanted to love these gloves and at first I did. They are very, very comfortable. They start out feeling like a well broken in pair of leather gloves. They have good dexterity and overall feel. I am hard on the wear surfaces of gloves, a lot of work with scrap metal, dirt, concrete, block, etc. Normally I can kill a pair of leather gloves quickly.I have used these gloves for months now, they are my go to pair. I can tell you this, the wear surfaces of this "Material4X" is great. The most durable glove material (in it's thickness) I have ever used. I have not had a finger tip wear through or split on me, most gloves wear through much faster than these have. However, the wear surface is not the only part of a pair of gloves. This is where it starts to go south. The attachment between the "Material4X" and the mesh backing started to pull apart quickly, within the first few hours of wear. Oddly, it's not the stitching that came apart. The stitching is still in tact. They tore along the edge of the stitching. Perhaps the stitching process damages the cloth backing enough to weaken it.I wanted to love them, but they are now getting to the point where they are starting to pull away from my hands when working. Maybe the attached photographs will convey the idea a bit better.I can say, that if you normally 'grind through' your gloves before wearing them out otherwise, they may be good for you. However, you may need to have a spare pair on hand in case they split while you are working. 2So good I'm surprised they still sell them! I have to think at some point Mechanix Wear will stop offering these gloves. They should be named 10x as they have outlasted standard gloves by a high degree. I use these gloves for automotive and they do great against lubricants, coolants, solvents and corrosive cleaners. I use the same pair each week for 3 hours when I do yardwork. I have had to replace only one pair since I first discovered these and that's because I flat out ripped a hole in the finger tip. I bought a bunch more a few years back and am still on my first replacement pair. They are unbelievable gloves and I love them. Again, if you only sell one pair every couple years because they are so well made, can this line be profitable at this price point? I suspect they will get discontinued or the prices will continue to rise on this item. 5The seamless palm is a really great feature for that I purchased these about four months ago, and so far, these gloves have held up extremely well. I do chainsaw work on the weekends and these protect my hands from the brush that I need to clear after limbing a tree. The seamless palm is a really great feature for that. Also, these function well for automotive/mechanic work as well. I bought them a little small, and after breaking them in, I am able to handle small screws with relative deftness and precision. The only "problem" I have ever had with them is that I once accidentally rested the tip of my finger on a chainsaw exhaust, and the 4X material got very hot and burned my finger fairly well, and it seemed like the material stayed hotter a lot longer than a real leather glove would have, although I did have my hand on the hot exhaust for a good five seconds before the heat got through the glove and hit my finger.Basically, avoid resting your hands on very hot surfaces for more than a second or two at a time and you will have a very nice and handy pair of gloves! 5Awesome gloves, but don't last long. I love the Mechanix 4x material gloves, but there is a major design issue. The seams are not double stitched and they are stitched with what looks to me to be regular old sewing thread, not strong long lasting nylon thread which should be used in all work cloths. I've had several pairs of these, and the same failure happened on every single glove. The 4x material of the fingers just pulls out from the fabric, either the fabric tears, the thread breaks, or the 4x material tears. The part of the glove that is not 4x material is not a strong material, it rips and tears quite easily. I've emailed mechanix and told them if they make a glove completely out of the 4x material and doubled stitched using nylon thread, I'd pay $70 for them. The 4x material is great, my job is very rough on hands and of course gloves, the abrasion resistance of the 4x material is fantastic, lasts longer than leather. The only thing that I have found that beats it up good is when I have to gather cinder blocks, but those will eat up any material, including skin. I've gotten to the point where I stopped buying more and just started trying to repair them, I sew them back together and then use tear mender fabric adhesive, gives them about another week of life. That the other thing, all of the stitching in the gloves should be coated with fabric glue, tear mender is latex so it doesn't get stiff. This would add a lot more strength. The next pair I buy I plan to do this before I even use them. Simply put the gloves are fantastic while they last. 4x material is awesome, gloves are comfy, not to hot not to cold, would be great for yard work or shop work but I work in a plant nursery where my hands are under constant abuse five days a week 8.5 hours a day. So maybe the don't last for me because I just use them up really quick. Though the changes I suggested would really improve the longevity. I've been seeking the perfect work gloves for about 5 years now I've spent a few hundred dollars on gloves by now, and my conclusion is they don't make gloves to last because then they would be out of the glove business. I have so many pairs of gloves that are junk, these gloves are the best I've tried so far, the search continues. 3Great Gloves- Great Fit First Pair, owned for just over a few months. 5+ StarsExcellent gloves, fit, dexterity, and material. It is almost a synthetic suede. I ordered a size smaller and they fit very nicely. No blister spots, or comfort issues.High quality product. I've put it through the tests, ripping up a deck, carpentry around the house, digging with a shovels, in Texas Heat and Humidity, they perform well.I will be buying more pairs, but i don't see them wearing out soon, much better than your typical Home Depot gloves.Great Product, very happy.I'll post once they wear out. 5Terrible durability for hard work See my attached photo of these gloves with lots of holes!!I use gloves for a number of things (yardwork) but mostly for chopping and stacking firewood. I heat my house with wood, so I do a LOT of wood chopping and stacking. It's pretty hard on gloves, so I get a good test on gloves.I've tried many brands over the years, but I'd have to say especially for the price these gloves (which tout some proprietary material which is super durable supposedly) have fared worse than any I've tried. I've mostly used Ironclad gloves (pretty good so far), custom leathercraft (not bad), and midwest buffalo leather gloves (great). These mechanix gloves have worn completely through (pretty big holes) in probably a dozen places over the pair - they look like swiss cheese! I threw them in the trash today. I have worn through other mentioned brands, but they all lasted a lot longer. They really just can't stand up to the abuse I dish out. Sorry, but I didn't use these for all that long, and I really expected more for my money. 1wash it in the washing machine and put them in the dryer(which isn't recommended but I do it anyways) with my clothes everyday I work in construction and have been using these gloves for almost everyday for almost anything. Particularly anything that requires finger dexterity and a fair amount of protection for my palm. These offer zero protection on the knuckles. If I was going to deal with trash, or demo, or anything that would get your hands wet, for the entire day I wouldn't use these gloves. However, sometimes I have to work in the rain and the gloves would get soaked and the material still holds up. The material is surprisingly durable for how thin it is. When I first got the gloves I was expecting to rip it within 2 weeks. But just today, I was doing some framing and I found that the stitches on the seams of the thumb and index finger coming apart. I wasn't surprised as how I use it everyday, wash it in the washing machine and put them in the dryer(which isn't recommended but I do it anyways) with my clothes everyday, for almost 3 months, the 4x material is still holding up and not showing the slightest hint of wear. I just the seams were stronger. I will get a pair of these sometime in the near future. But more experimenting with different gloves for now.By the way, get a size smaller. I use size Small for these gloves. It is equivalent to Medium for other brands that I have used like Milwaukee, Maxiflex, CLC, Home Depot's Firm Grip. 4
