Customer Reviews

Emergency Kit For Every Hone In America Should Be a General RuleI like the bucket better than the bags, and the five year pull date is great. I think a little more water, and some candy for diabetics should be in the emergency kit. No home should be without it. Thank You. Barbara Everett Heintz3Good kit for emergency situationI got this earthquake kit and I love it a lot. It has everything you need. It is very practical. We have food, drink, flashlight, radio, batteries... etc. I think the one we got can at least last for 2 weeks as my hubby and I don`t eat/use a lot. We are satisfied with this purchase.4Perfect!This is the perfect emergency kit for your home or work - everything is included that you would need with no worries - great price!5Not a good purchaseThis emergency kit did not meet my expectations. The radio/flashlight I received was not the same as the picture and is a poor quality replacement. Two of the water pouches I received were leaking. The weatherproof matches were missing from the package. I contacted their customer service and the representative worked to replace the damaged and missing items, but I was stuck with the junky radio/flashlight. I don't recommend this kit. I wish I had waited for and bought the Ready America kit that was sold out at the time.2Well...almost perfectA lot of nifty gear stuffed into a bucket you can crap in...now who could ask for more? One warning though...you might think about buying some MRE's to add to this because the "survival food bars" are for people seriously starving to death, if they can even choke them down, seriously, blocks of drywall have more flavor and texture...you couldn't toss some granola bars or dehydrated food in there? I wasn't expecting rib eyes and New York strips, but DAYUM, those are nasty, there's your missing star. The contents of the bucket, otherwise, would be very useful when and if the time comes to get outta Dodge in a hurry.4Was happy to find that it also had a toilet seat ...I bought these for my adult children for Christmas. Was happy to find that it also had a toilet seat with it. It is only a first step to prep but at least now they have a start and can find everything in one place.5Self-Contained Disaster KitI just moved to a hurricane prone area and bought this kit as the basis to my disaster preparedness kit. It is a very extensive kit and I like that it is self contained for easy storage. There were several items that I wouldnt have thought of needing like a utility shut off tool and crow bar but can definitely see the value of. I picked up additional water and shelf-stable food and now feel much more ready for hurricane season.5Yup, it's all in thereWhat I like about this product is that it arrives all packed up in a compact bucket that can be stored easily without taking up a whole bunch of space. I feel better knowing that I have something in my household to support people in the case of an emergency.4Good for just a single dayI live in earthquake country, but I've never had the emergency kit you're supposed to have. The recent hurricane coverage and having a newborn son convinced me to go get something. I'm not a survivalist, but I wanted something that could be stored outside and I had ambitions that I'd be buying something that would weather me through an immense week-long emergency situation.Just a little thought and research showed me this was unrealistic. This kit is OK for what it is, but really it is made to last for about a day. The CTC recommends a gallon of water/day/person, for example, and all the little bags add up to less than a gallon. It only has enough food for two people for a day. I don't see why it's called a "4 person" kit, the naming is misleading. The bucket isn't sealed well and needs to be protected if stored outside.Ultimately a person putting together an emergency kit needs to think about what they're planning for. A day? A week? Is the house accessible? I planned for a few days of infrastructure being down, with the house perhaps not accessible. I decided this kitDefinitely needs:More water (even if you just want supplies for a single day, I'd still add a few water bottles in the available space)More food (get canned, freeze-dried, or vacuum-sealed)Supplies for children/pets/etc.Should have:A better first aid kitBasic medication like allergy medicine, painkillers, etc.More toilet paper (what's the point of getting a toilet bucket that comes with just a single roll?)Some way to charge cell phone (I didn't get the dinky lamp, but would have replaced it anyway)SoapSunscreenAnd it might be a good idea to have:A camping stove + potA pop-up tentSleeping bagExtra clothesI added these things (many of which I already had in the garage) in a heavyweight rubber-maid bin and put them somewhere safe. I guess I still give a qualified recommendation to this set, but you really should still buy a second bin to supplement.3Practical/Self Contained This is exactly what we needed. Simple, complete and everything in one container. Nobody wants to need this stuff, but having it is a peace of mind. 5Does the jobFits the bill. If you're worried about the Apocalypse or total anarchy, or zombies, my friend in the survival supply biz showed me some amazing kits for more money that had much more stuff. Living in Southern California, my biggest concern is earthquakes. Not really in a fire area. But for either, this is a good, portable kit with enough for a few people for a few days, which should do the trick. A porto-potty is a nice extra. Of course, some folks aren't happy without a full stockpile of weapons, gold bullion, gas masks and so forth. We figure, if we need all of that, we probably don't want to be here anyway :)4
