Customer Reviews

Holds my Yaesu VX-8 securely.Used this holster for the first time today. I am using an Eberlestock Gunslinger pack for hunting. The holder was easy to attach to the molle on the pack and it held my Yaesu VX-8 securely. While the radio was rock solid, this pushed my water bottle to one side. I will have to experiment with this a little to find the right "sweet spot" for it to ride, but it seems to work quite well. This is the fourth Maxpedition product I have purchased and they are all high quality. 4First impressions: overbuilt! And that is a good thing. My first impressions after unboxing this is, the materials and build quality are very good. It feels very well made. Maybe a little too complicated to configure for the average person. This product is clearly made for rugged use.Its well designed and has so many ways to adjust and configure to fit most phones (My dad's Samsung Galaxy S7 Active with a OtterBox Defender barely can fit with the velcro stretched out to its limits with only 1/4" left to hold onto.) as well as other handheld electronics. So if you have a large phone with a case, it will be a squeeze.April 3rd 2018: I'll update my review at a later date. Initial impressions are good though. 5Perfect For A Large Screen SmartphoneI have a Samsung Infuse with a 4.5" screen with an Otterbox Defender case, and after the original holster broke, I searched for a long time for a holster but couldn't find any in all the stores that I went to. Any large screen smart phone with a rubberized case is going to be difficult to slip into a pocket unless you wear cargo pants all the time, or carry it in a bag. What attracted me to the Maxpedition CP-L Phone/Radio Holder is that it is adjustable to any size cell phone and radio. I was able to adjust it to fit my Infuse perfectly and its very easy to mount it on a belt. At first I balked at the price tag, $26 just for a cell phone/radio holder? But when I received the product, I could tell that it was going to last as long as I owned it, it's very well made and sturdy, 1050 Denier nylon. On previous reviewer commented that the rough edges could rub against you even while wearing a shirt. I haven't encountered that. Unless you are very overweight and your belly fat hangs over your pants, the CP-L shouldn't rub against you while wearing a shirt. The advantages I see in this product are:1. Very sturdy materials - 1050 denier nylon and well made2. Can be mounted on the belt in the horizontal or vertical position, which ever you prefer3. Easily mounted on a belt by simply passing the belt through the velcro on the back.4. Easily adjustable to any size cell phone or radio, even when the large smart phone is in a large caseNow, I'm due to upgrade my phone, so I have no reservations of getting a Samsung Galaxy S4, Note, or other large smart phone because I now have a holder that can accommodate it even if I have a large or rubberized case for it. I'll probably purchase a couple more in the different colors they come in to match my attire, or for my son's large smart phone. 5Solid piece of kit, military bearing but a civilian shortfall.I own several pieces of Maxpedition gear. The CP-L gets four solid stars in my book but like the other Max kit I own, seems slightly over-engineered and while it provides molle compatibility, it overlooks certain features that would make it a five star piece of gear.I use this holder/holster to carry a large Android phone that is attached horizontally to the hip belt of a military-issue, weapon carrying pack, support side. The CP-L does this very well. The major short fall is that when carried in this fashion (support side - left), the velcro fasteners face up, meaning, that if I were to get into a hands-on situation with someone and I were to sweep my hands downward to break contact with a potential assailant, the sweeping-down motion of my hands would potentially aid in pushing the CP-L off of my hip belt and onto the ground if my hands made contact with the CP-L. The CP-L is only connected to my waist belt by two, narrow, velcro connectors. Those of you in law enforcement may identify with this when reversing the keepers on a gun belt to keep the belt retained in a hands-on encounter. This is very specific to people in the security/LE sector and becomes a non-issue if carried vertically, mollied onto a panel, vest, or if you're "just" a day hiker looking for a good pouch to carry a GPS, phone, etc. With that out of the way, the CP-L, like the majority of my Max gear, is of very high quality, aesthetically pleasing, mounts vertically or horizontally to a belt, LBV, shoulder strap, etc., and the way this carrier opens up and expands, can likely accommodate ANY smart phone on the market along with an armored case i.e. Otterbox, Sprigen, etc. This was a major factor in why I purchased the CP-L as there are very few molleable phone holsters out right now (autumn 2018) that can fit the newest generation smart phones with >6.0" screens in addition to armored smart phone covers. The CP-L will gobble all of them up.I highly recommend this item and believe my particular reservation will be limited to a very select group of people with demanding needs in the security sector. In any event, buy with confidence, it's a Maxpedition and should provide years of good service.Oh yeah... it's not made in China. Huge plus. 4Only Good for About One YearI bought this in December 2013 for around 20% less than the current price. It worked well with my Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5, and the fact that it's adjustable makes me sure it could probably handle any phone, including the Note 4 or Mega. For about 11 months, I was very pleased. But, around November, as the temperature began to drop, I noticed the plastic clip began to get more stiff. Finally, one day while routinely clipping my phone in, one of the two sides of the clip broke. Despite being disappointed, the holder still worked. At least for another couple of months. Then in January, the second side of the clip broke, rendering the holder unable to hold the phone securely in place. While I still use it to hold my phone while walking or sitting, anytime I take off the Jumbo Versipack I bought this to use with, the phone falls out. Given the price and the Maxpedition brand, there's no reason for this to have only lasted just over a year. 3Works well for Motorola MT352 radios.Initial impressions is that this works prefect for Motorola MT352 radios on waist belt. However there is a lot of 'material' and the whole thing can feel bulky unless you have larger radio. This holder allows access to MT352 earplug port, volume knob, and transmit button on side. (If you need access to other functions or buttons then you'll need to pull radio out of holder - which is easy with the quick release.) Anything smaller than this radio wouldn't fit snuggly. I would prefer a metal clip like their 5" Clip-on model but happy just the same.Good quality materials seems like it will hold up... 4Finally, the best all around radio holster for public safety radios.I have been in law enforcement of 35 years and I have had to go through a lot of different radios and holders over the years. My Motorola APX portable came with three options. A molded plastic holder that comes with a clip or the traditional swivel that Motorola has that attaches to the crappy leather belt loop receiver. Or, you can use their leather case that uses the same leather belt receiver. Those receivers tend to stretch out and the radio tends to flop about constantly, gets hung up on seatbelts, etc. Plus, the leather case is battery specific. So, I figured I would try the Maxpedition radio holder. I use the smaller versions for my cell phone and figured I would try it out. It has Molle capability or it can be belt mounted. The size is fully adjustable to accommodate the large and small battery. It keeps it secure and as of yet has not snagged on anything. Best holster I have found to date. 5Suits my needs!!!I'm liking this so far as I've tried it for about a week or so now. Basically, I'm not using it for a radio as opposed to using it for my cell phone instead (I've got a Galaxy SIII in an Otterbox case). It fits it fine although I did use a sheet of sheet metal about the width of the phone but only going up as high as where you see the buckle in the picture. Basically the sheet metal was bent around a broom stick so that I have the shape of a U and then that goes into the holster so that the holder doesn't compress and my phone slides right in. Without a case I'm sure the phone would go in fine but because the Otterbox and probably any phone case that has a rubber texture to it will 'snag' on the holder and may not slide in easily (notice that the holder is made out of fabric) this was my workaround. The holder itself is very rugged and should survive a lot of wear and tear. I'd recommend this if you're looking for an alternative phone case where that clip-on model sits too high over the belt and digs into your side when you're sitting. Velcro is very strong on this thing and you could probably DIY it with some MOLLE or ALICE accessories. 4QualityVery modular. Perfect for my combat comms. Now, to get it dirty. Securely holds my Baofeng with extended battery. Solid. 5Strong enough for Rapelling. Maxpedition! Perhaps over-built.This is crazy strong and crazy adjustable. It's also so strong I feel I could anchor rapelling rig off of it.I keep wondering if it's overkill for holding a phone or radio.LOTS of Maxpedition *heavy* strapping and velcro. Squished flat it's twice as thick as my phone and almost as thick as my Ham radio.Pros:You will NEVER break this or wear it out.It is uber adjustable - just not so much on the fly (except maybe elastic).Cons:It is so overbuilt you have to choose to just deal with the weight. But you will NEVER wear it outMight be too tight to press buttons on radios unless you lock out the keypad. Even if "large enough"Neutral:Difficult to adjust on the fly. Not a negative but don't expect to quickly tweak it But it WILL hold it's new shape.Other:I adjusted the side strap and it will fit my Samsung S5 (pulls things wide and top tighter) as well as Kenwood TH-D7A(G) or BaoFeng UV-82HP .With the radio I do have concerns about button pressing/smooshing w/o locking out the front panel. Holders with a "non strap front" may do better on not smooshing buttons. have to see about this.Readily fits per my use and testing - with a lot of horizontal and vertical room to spare. One resize (width) and I can fit any of the following easily with room if I needed for the ginormous phones: BaoFeng UV-82HP Samsung S5 Garmin 60 CSX GPSA Baofeng 52 or "mini" cell phone such as my wife's S4 Mini will be lost in this size. Plenty of adjust ment range to go larger. 4
