Customer Reviews

Maxell Dvd-r Goin Downhill in Quality!!!!! Well friends it appears that Maxell DvD-Rs have finally gone downhill. The Material on the inside of the dvd that stores all the information has become so paper thin that you can actually hold it in your hand or in front of your computer monitor and see right through it. I cannot see them maintaining structural integrity of files and folders or important family photos or home movies for any length of time. Unfortunately I purchased 3 spindles of 100 so I'm stuck with them now, but I would suggest purchasing verbatims dvd-rs from now on do to the darker the dvd the better quality and length of storage time on the dvd. 2So I put in a TDK DVD-R that i burned and it played fine.. I've used DVD-R before and never had a problem till now. My computer will recognize them and I can burn a DVD that will play on my BlueRay and three other DVD players...My problem with these discs is they will not play on my computer... And my PC wont even recognize them after U burn them.. So I put in a TDK DVD-R that i burned and it played fine... So the problem is not my PC.. But I have to admit the video quality is very good. Maybe I got a bad batch, but either way I will never buy Maxell again. I hope this helps U guys. .Happy New Year :) 1Packaging was superb! I hesitated ordering these from Amazon based on reviews stating the packaging was minimal at best and the product arrived damaged. However, this 100 disc spindle of MAXELL discs can be purchased from a variety of sources utilizing the Amazon order system. I ordered them as Fullfilled and Shipped by Amazon and the shrink wrapped spindle of discs was bubble wrapped and then extra cushioning was placed around it in the box that was shipped. I'd rate the package A+ ... and I'd rate the Maxell discs as A+ as they are my choice for blank discs! All in all, this was an excellent purchase since the price also was extremely good. When ordering make sure it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" as your choice of vendors! 5Damaged I got a surprise when I open the box and found the Maxell DVD-R I ordered were completely damaged at the bottom of the box. The package itself was undamaged. It looked as though, they were already damaged before they were placed in the box, because, the plastic cover on the bottom was gone and the spindle was completely broken off. Causing all the discs to be at the bottom the box, along with the broken Slim Jewel Cases. Since this was a Christmas present, I had to go out and buy 50 count instead of 100. I have order Maxell DVD-R 100 many time from Amazon.com and this has never happen. 1Maxell DVD-R high quality disks I have read some very technical and detailed reviews of DVD-R discs that rate both the TDK and Memorex discs as slightly superior [1/2 of a star(*)]to the Maxell DVD-R, but I must disagree. I tried one hundred (100) of the Memorex, and had three recording failures. When I tried one hundred (100) TDK disks I had two disk failures.I now have used two hundred & fifty (250) Maxell DVD-R discs without a single disc failure. All recordings were made with the exact same program, 'Toshiba Disc Creator', so I believe this to be a fair comparison. When the Maxell discs arrived both of the bar codes were the same, but one spindle of 100 discs had two shrink wrapped packs of fifty (50) disc's each, while the other spindle had one hundred (100) loose discs. Personally I prefer the shrink wrapped packages, as they held the discs tightly, and I feel more securely, against damage in shipping. All products were Amazon purchases. To try them yourself, follow the link below. Good luck! Stu. Maxell - 100 x DVD-R - 4.7 GB 16x - spindle - storage media 4BAD DISKS one out of three will not work. the funai recorder i bought will only use maxwell disks, that sucks also. very bad disks. get SONY out of 800 sony only two would not work. maxell and funai sucks. my other recorder is a TOSHIBA and the maxwell disks will not work in it also.CRAP just sent another 100 back. will not work 1Great Product but Amazon Please Fix Shipping Issue This is an excellent product and a great deal through Amazon! However, I can see why other reviewers have tried to warn purchasers about Amazon's shipping of this product. I took the risk and I probably would again. The box was a little large for the product with insufficient packing which allowed the product to role around in the box. The only damage it received was that the bottom of the case was cracked. However, it would seem that all the DVD-Rs are without scratches.I would take the risk again as my experience with Amazon overall is very positive. I'm sure they would replace the damaged DVD-Rs or provide a refund, but I'm hoping that they will fix this issue so I can order this product again from them without fear of receiving damaged DVD-Rs. 5Is the 2nd time the charm? We'll see. I'd previously submitted a 3-star review on this product. No profanity at all. But they told me it violated their review guidelines. So, I'll try it again - this time using kinder/gentler words to convey the same feeling. My 3-star review is a combination of 5 stars for the product and 0 stars for Amazon shipping. For 3 years, even kinder reviewers have complained about the way these discs are packed. Count me in.I've always had a lot of faith in the Maxell brand. Currently, their discs are manufactured by Ritek and they do a pretty good job. I've burned close to half of them and they all performed well - not a coaster in the lot. And I expect the same for the remaining discs (unlike Amazon Basics DVDs which I'll never order again). The packing job by Amazon? That's a whole different thing. When I got them, the spindle was bouncing around inside a box that didn't have enough padding. And though I didn't notice it at first, the spindle itself was broken (hanging on just by a thread of plastic). I had to move the discs to a spare spindle. The packing was so bad that I firmly believe I received these discs intact for only 2 reasons:1) The quick and kind shipping it received by OnTrac.2) Luck ... with a capital "L."I strongly believe that Amazon owes me (and others) an apology for their shoddy packing job - and an assurance that they will improve their packing practices in the future.P.S. BTW, I posted this review on 12/2, not 11/17. Amazon obviously "remembers" reviews where posting is denied and inserts the date of the original review. 3bad batch I've been buying 100 pack dvd's for a long time -- I've used Maxell before but this is the single worst batch of 100 that I've ever had. Almost half of them don't complete a copy, and when I use another brand disc there is no problem with the same copy. Some would not copy after 3 tries. All in all I've gone through almost half of the 100 and there have to be close to 20 that did not make a succesful copy. I realize this could be a bad batch and I just really don't have the time or energy to return half a spindle but I hope by writing this someone from Maxell will read it and investigate what happened here. I've used Phillips, Verbatim, TDK, Amazon brand and many others but it will be a good while before I chance Maxell again.Gene 1if I get a half a dozen bad dvd's out of 100 I understand a 30 day return policy but on some things that just doesn't work. Around half of the dvd's were faulty, of course most of them were on the bottom half of the stack and I missed my return date by 18 days, I try to be reasonable, if I get a half a dozen bad dvd's out of 100, I'm OK with that. Not any more. The first bad one and Amazon will get all 100 back. Not really good for me as a buyer or Amazon as a seller but they make the rules, I just try to follow them even if they are silly. 1
