Reliable replacement for battery eating flashlights We have been having several power outages each year mostly due to equipment failure at the power company and I got really tired of changing tiny AA and AAA batteries in the half dozen flashlights. Then when my lantern broke, I'd had enough. Got this lantern to replace them all. Put on one of the smallest of the Makita batteries to keep it light weight and hung it near the bed. Problems solved! Now all 4 of my grown kids are asking for one for Christmas. 5Brighter than expected- Excellent lantern, very bright and has a three-function push button switch. This lantern can easily illuminate a large room or tent, and is a nice alternative to a propane lantern for campsite use. It is not quite as bright as a propane lantern, however it has the advantage of running cool to the touch.The lantern has a single push button that cycles between 360 degree; 180 degree illumination; single bulb flashlight, and OFF. The 180 degree lantern function is very useful while carrying the lantern, as it completely illuminates what is in front of you, and does not shine light in your eyes. The button feels substantial, and my lantern has survived dropping several times. The flashlight function is sufficient, the lantern function is exceptional.Please note- no batteries are included: It can use any size Makita battery, the large BL1850 batteries will power the lantern for many hours. 5Worth the extra moola......... Makita makes the best and most versatile tools and battery system, period! Worth the extra coin! THIS IS the BEST and BRIGHTEST portable light I have ever used period...! Great not to have to buy a boatload od "D" batteries anymore for the real powerful lanterns! Electricity went out in a friends vacation home that we were doing plumbing work and interior painting in. We painted 4 large rooms using two of these I8 volt lights and I can tell you NO PROBLEMS. Yes, the Makita batteries ARE expensive but, I use them a lot and they work and recharge great. Many thanks citizens! 5Very bright I bought this for auto detailing. I turned it on and couldn t look close to the light for stains , dirt etc. I was disappointed. I pushed the button to turn it off, and it ha 2 more modes, one is only half of the Round part lights up super bright (perfect for final detailing checks) and the other is a flashlight. Very happy with this light! 5A really nice lantern with an added bonus flashlight. Bought both this and the LXLM03 to try out. I can't bring myself to return either. This one (the DML806) is my favorite and the one I find myself going to most, over the LXLM103, over even my favorite LED flashlights, over the corded retractable shop light plugged in and ready in the garage...Were it just a lantern and flashlight it would be good. To be able to switch between full and half lantern makes all the difference. One click for full lantern, second click turns one half of the lantern off for great, bright directional light. The flashlight is weak and sad by LED flashlight standards, but is sufficient, and the battery power makes up for the shortfall in flashlight brightness.It's sturdy, and stands up on its own on most flat surfaces, even those not perfectly flat. It also has a really neat swiveling hook to hang too. Fantastic for working on the car where it's tough to use a 100 watt bulb and hard to find a place to hook or lay it. Cool to the touch, no worry about the bulb getting to hot or burning oil off of the bulb or heating up your floor mats while you're under the dash... The plastic wipes clean easily.I was also sick of having a ton of flashlights all with 3 dead AAA batteries. Spend more time hunting batteries and changing batteries than I do using flashlights. If you have the other LXT Tools, you probably know how nice the Makita LXT Tools are. You probably also keep a charged or at least partially charged battery around. Being able to pick up a quick exchange battery and have a really fantastic light/lantern ready to go is a very nice thing. I probably wouldn't recommend this alone, but if you own the batteries and charger, there's not a better more versatile light out there.I can't speak to the battery life, as I haven't worn one out with it yet. If you're camping and have ever had to haul a lantern and 2 spare lantern batteries around, you'd have to appreciate the convenience of this. A LXT Battery and a spare would take up less space and weigh less than one set of lantern batteries, never mind a spare. 5Works Great! Very Bright! This flashlight works great. It seems to last forever on a 4 amphour battery ~like 20 hours. It has functions for 360 , 180 , and top light. The hanger clip seems a bit light duty, but it has not yet broke. The flashlight puts out a ton of light. It works great for mechanic and constuction use, no worry about getting hot and catching things on fire due to the LED lights. 5Great product Very nice tool to have bright and sturdy i use it daily and leave it on for hrs while painting closets and bathrooms its a really usefull light i even use it for night fishing were a lantern is required at my lake i use it for automotive repairs aso been going stong would recomend the lantern 5Useful but limited. I bought two of these for use during power outages, which is probably their best purpose. Obviously I'm in far too deep with other Makita tools and batteries, otherwise these would be way too expensive to justify. On the pro side these are very bright, and when hung in the center, one will illuminate an average room on full power. It's probably around as bright as a cool white 60w bulb. On half power it can work acceptably as a work light under a car hood. The flashlight tip isn't very bright, but works perfectly well to find your way around in a dark hallway. The hanging hook is very convenient and folds neatly out of the way when not in use. The cons: Proper placement in a room is important because the light on full is too bright to look at for long. It almost needs a shade.The light is thrown out rather than up or down, so the area below the light tends to be darker than I'd prefer. The reflection in a light colored room makes it work better.The lenses seem vulnerable and might tend to get damaged if thrown in a tool box. For the price, it should come with some sort of protective case. Of the two I bought, one was defective and is being replaced for free by Amazon. The defect was odd in that it worked normally for the first few minutes each time I turned it on, cycling through the three settings: all LEDs lit, then only half lit, then just the flashlight after each push of the button. But if left on full for more than a few minutes, all the LEDs would still remain on when switched to what should have been the half lit setting. If you buy one, leave it on full for more than a few minutes and make sure the half setting still works. These are good as emergency lighting, but as an all around work light I would recommend either the DML801 or 802. 3Well worth the price. This is my first real, cordless lantern/light. I already use the Makita 18v platform, so purchasing a rechargeable battery light from them made sense. I cannot compare it to any other lights, but I have found this light to be indispensable whether for morning chores in the dark or when I shut down power to a room to do some rewiring. Light fills the space. I would say is replaces about 2 light bulbs in an average room. I much prefer this over another Makita light that I bought at the same time. The other is a flashlight. This is just so much more useful for most of my applications. I do not have anything negative to say about this particular product. It was a bit expensive even for Makita. 5Best money I ever spent Purchased this Makita product before hurricane Irma. Gives out more light then I have ever seen from another battery operated light and lasted 4 or 5 hours before a battery change was needed using the 2 amp battery pack, lasted even longer on the 3amp battery pack. Hands down best portable light I have ever owned. Just used it working under the kitchen sink the other day and have no regrets on the purchase. Makita makes great tools and now I know a great light. 5
