Customer Reviews

Loved it until I dropped it. Not very durable. I really liked this light when I got it. It gave out plenty of light and the 2 levels of brightness was great. The lower level of light was usually sufficient for what was needed and the battery lasted longer at that setting. Then one day working in the shop it fell off the bench and the top snapped right off. The light still works but is held together by the internal wire. So I guess I am a little disappointed in the construction of this light. I mean it is a tool and tools are used in a rough environment but this is too fragile for a work environment. 1Perfect... except for one point VERY handy and bright. Not as much of a spotlight as the earlier Makita flashlight, but what a great work light. Working in some very confined spaces, I have already made use oy the great articulation the light provides. I would definitely give this 5 stars, but found one drawback which I will have to get used to: The on-off pushbutton is concealed almost totally flat beneath the rubber skin. As such, it is very hard to locate the button by instant feel. I have to "search" with my thumb to find the right spot where the button is located. To have the button protrude somewhat, so I could instantly hit the button with my thumb, would make the light ideal. But the 'hidden' button is definitely a step backward from the well established Makita BML 185 flashlight with its user friendly pushbutton. 4very useful but power on button seems problematic at times need to downgrade my previous review. it's very bright, very useful but power on button seems problematic at times. and we rarely use this item. one time i thought battery i used needs recharging since it won't turn on. changed with another battery then it's working, sort of. i noticed something while using it. LED should work in full, haft and off by a press of the power button, but mine have to be pressed several times before it turns on, or to turn it to haft the LED lights. and i'm very gentle with all my tools btw. an awesome item to have. should have designed the power button better i guess. 3This thing is bright amid a bit pricey. Son and i both have one in our car trunks, and also have one in our bedroom with older batteries in them, you'll never know when you really need a good light. With the weight of the battery it sits well wherever you put it on and the angle can be adjusted on the fly; or hung. Quality is of typical Makita which is mostly plastic on this light. I think 'flashlight' is a bit over exaggerated as it cannot reach as far as a regular flashlight, it's more of a flood light. Shop, remote working areas and for emergency is perfect! 5... in the house and this handy device has been great. I was on the fence on whether I ... I'm changing all the electrical fixtures in the house and this handy device has been great. I was on the fence on whether I wanted this device with it's unidirectional light vs. the DML806 with is 360 light. Now that I've used the DML801, I think I made the right choice. I like being able to direct the light onto what you're working on and not into your eyes as well. I can work for several hours with the light and it's still above 75% power with a 2.0 mAh battery. The articulation of the light is great enabling you to get the light precisely where you want it. 5My favorite light I like these so much I just bought a second one. The first had the old part number, but I can't see any other difference between the two. I also have the DML802, also a nice light. If I had to choose between the two, I'd take the 801 because it is more versatile. The articulated head and two power settings make it possible to use the light to illuminate a room, as a table lamp, a flashlight, or for project illumination. On high it is very bright, and also very usable on low.The light spreads out quite a bit, like a flood light. If you need a more focused beam, go for the DML802. This light stands up well, and the built in foldable hook is very handy for creating room illumination or for hanging under a car hood. Folding the head down against the handle protects the lens somewhat and turns the whole light into a smaller package.for storage or travel. For the price, I'd like to see a carry case. The switch is a bit odd in that it faces the palm side of the handle, much more awkward than putting it in the trigger position. In the trigger position it would be blocked when the head is folded down, which may explain the location. I'd rather see it there anyway. As with most Makita 18v devices, this is way too expensive for anyone who has not already invested in Makita batteries. 5Great light flexible angles. There are two versions of this light on the Makita website. The LXLM03 and the DML801. The 801 is listed as the newest version on the Makita website so I went with that one with the assumption that they may have identified and fixed some sort of minor issues with the previous version. Both have the same number of lumens and LEDs. There are brighter lights on the market but I wanted one that worked with my battery investment without the need to plug in a separate charger. The last set I invested in a few years back was a Craftsman set. Fantastic cordless 20V set however they discontinued all of the tools and batteries rendering mine useless once the batteries gave out. Last Craftsman set I will own. My hope is that Makita is in it for the long run and since their primary focus is on tools, I hope this line up sticks around.Great flashlight, accurately described. Bright enough for most jobs. 5A fantastic go-to light if you have the Makita LXT Tools Bought this and the Makita DML806 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless L.E.D. Lantern/Flashlight Tool. Have a really hard time picking favorites, but decided to buy a second of these for work based on it's extreme usefulness. If you don't need something to double as a lantern, this is the way to go. It's also $20 cheaper, although still priced quite high for a flashlight. If you don't have the Makita batteries and charger, this is an insanely expensive light that totally isn't worth the money. If you do have the Makita LXT tools and batteries, you probably already know how great they work. You probably also have a spare battery at least partially charged ready to go. Being able to snap a battery on at a moments notice makes this a really great tool. If you've ever went for several flashlights only to find all are dead and require 3 AAA batteries to be changed you know the hassle. The light swivels in just about any direction you could ask for, and makes it really fantastic for directing a bright, cool to the touch light (as much as the smell of oil burning on a 75 watt bulb sets the mood). The hook makes it great for the hood, and the size of the light neck allows it to fit into tight spaces. It has a great grip that's always easy to hold and not lose control of. Many of the metal flashlights, including the Xtreme Bright Multipurpose Work Light & Lantern; Hands-Free Retractable Automotive LED Light Bar Attaches To Any Metal Surface. More Than A Basic Handheld Flashlight -Ultimate Camping Lantern are difficult to hold. The Makita has a great grip, and also has the battery pack weight on the bottom to keep it standing on most flat surfaces. 5Throw away your cylindrical flashlights! You'll never go back if you buy one of these This is the third or fourth one of these I have purchased - two for myself and two gifts. The price has come down substantially from a few years ago.Of course you need Makita batteries and charger, but if you buy lots of Makita battery powered items like I do, you're good.I can get about 12 hours of continuous light from one charge, and probably more if I used lower power setting.Unlike a hand-held flashlight, this one sits firmly on a heavy base, and the head twists and turns in virtually any direction. So no need for a third hand when you are working in dark area - can also hang it by built-in hook.Plenty of light - can't count the under-sink times I've used it. Sometimes I use it as a light booster on my workbench for close work - Li-ion batteries charge in less than an hour, so with two of them no problemo. 5Sturdy and powerful I started buying the Makita cordless products a few months ago and this was high on my to buy list as I often end up working on things as the sun sets. This has not let me down I have probably used it more than my drill grinder and impact driver combined though the driver is in a commanding second place. The light has proven great for everything from grilling after dark to brakes and oil changes as the sun sets after work. The overall build quality is top notch and the grip is sure when holding with cold, numb, or just greasy hands. Maneuvering the head to point at the work I'm doing is easy and steady once it is set. The 2 hanging hooks( 1 built into the head and 1 on a strap that goes between the base by the battery to the swivel joint) make setting my workspace up a breeze. Our grill has a small roof shelter above it and the lights hooks hang it nicely above the grill and allow me to see how things are cooking without risking my phone over the flame. This stays in my car with the charger and spare battery and is a comfort for if I should need to use it. There are 2 brightness settings which are essentially blinding and mostly blinding if you're looking at it but to illuminate a space the light is bright yet diffuse enough to be of real use over an area in either setting. It is not a spotlight and so has low distance use though it has been used to search across the yard more than once for 1 thing or another.Overall a sturdy feeling light and powerful as need be in the vast majority of situations 5
