Seamless roaming is a must! I ve been using this extender for about two weeks, and so far I am very happy with it. I m getting 4-5x faster speeds in my office than with a router, alone. It s important that you make sure you have a compatible router, but if this extender is able to take advantage of seamless roaming technology, this is the way to go!My wife and I have a one story, 2000 square foot home, and our wireless router is in the front room. Wi-Fi speed in the front room and surrounding bedrooms is anywhere from 50-100mbps, depending on the time of day, but our home office, which is in the far corner of the house usually can t exceed 10mbps, and generally averages even lower. The speed was fine for most day to day use, but we would have to move our laptops to another room for acceptable download speeds.I bought an extender from another company, thinking that the different SSID wouldn t be an issue, but having to choose different networks depending on where you are in the house is not ideal, especially with phones and tablets.The coolest feature of this extender is the seamless roaming capability. This has been around for businesses for many years, but I m happy to see the technology coming to households. Seamless roaming allows your router to switch Wi-Fi devices between the access point with the strongest signal. This is a useful feature if you end up moving around the house a lot, because you don t have to worry about which Wi-Fi network you are connected to. The negative aspect of most range extenders is they force you to specifically connect to the extender s SSID when you need a signal boost.I was on the verge of buying a mesh network system (google Wi-Fi, Linksys velop, etc), but seeing as we have just bought a high end router earlier in the year, it felt like a waste.I was skeptical of how well this extender would work, but not only can I move from room to room with my tablet and laptop, but my speeds are also better than i had anticipated. I can access a full strength signal on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.If i was buying a new Wi-Fi solution today, it would be tough to overlook the benefits of a mesh network solution, but if you already have a good router and only need to get a stronger signal to a problem area, and you can take advantage of the seamless roaming this extender offers, this is the way to go! 5Died after 10 months, Horrible Lynksys customer service (>1 hr on phone for a warrantied item) - Brutal As a preface, I am a chemical engineer, 36, and no stranger to techy stuff.Bought this in July 25, 2016. At the time of this writing, June 30, 2017 (less than 1 yr later).Unit crapped out. Stopped showing up in the wireless list. Troubleshooted by hard connecting the extender to my computer via ethernet and could not even get into the unit via IP address. Also tried resetting many times. It was clearly dead.Then was on the phone with Lynksys for over an hour doing all of the diagnostic tests that I tried and confirmed for them that I tried.They had me changing subnet masks, Ip addresses, etc and it still did not connect. The girl on the phone was clearly following a script.I was getting so frustrated. The unit is clearly dead, NFG.So far its been 59 minutes and I told her all I want is to return this unit for a new one as I am under the 1 yr for the warranty. But I can't process the claim without going through their hoops. I got put on hold a few times for 5 minutes each time during the 1+ hour period.This is completely brutal service.I don't know what else to say.If it does not break down it will be good.If it does break down like mine did after less than 1 yr then you screwed.I do not recommend. 1Love Linksys routers but Hate this extender... I have the Linksys Max Stream EA7300 compatible router that I love but the Linksys AC1900 Gigabit Range Extender/WiFi Booster/Repeater MU-MIMO (Max Stream RE7000) does not work with it. I tried with the WPS button process for an hour without success. I resorted to the browser set up as many have mentioned and was able to connect and get the "successful message" but sometimes the extender would connect and other times it would not. The extender would only work if it was about 10 feet from the router and anything further away it would get the orange blinking lights (not connected). When it would connect my 5 GHz signal was worse than with just the router. My wife's phone connected to that signal and her Spotify music would drop or cut in and out. Keep in mind this is the compatible Max Stream Linksys router that is suppose to roam seamlessly, it doesn't. Not even close! After hours of trying to get this to work and connected, it was a nightmare, and I just could not take it anymore. Customer service is non-existent and online help just has what is in the start up manuals. I know some people had success and I really wanted this extender to work but it should never be this hard and frustrating. Thank goodness for Amazon's quick return process and I couldn't get this out of my house fast enough. Based on the reviews it feels like a 50/50 chance of this working very well or completely useless. Even with a compatible Linksys router which gives a very good signal, the extender would not work. I thought I could boost my streaming signal but this extender is horrible. I'll only use my router from now on. 1IGNORE THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Like everyone else, I burned around 20 minutes trying to follow the installation instructions and gave up. Contrary to the installation instructions, I never could get the extender to work with the WPS button. After reading some of the comments I was able to get my extender installed in a couple of minutes. This is how I installed my AC1900 Range Extender to my Linksys 1900AC router:1) Plug the extender to an outlet CLOSE to the modem/router (Once you set it up it remembers your network so you can unplug it and move it to the best range extending location later). 2) Once it s plugged in, you have to wait for the flashing light on the front to change color and flash orange!3) Now that you have an orange blinking light, get on your computer and go to your wireless network settings and look for, and connect to, the Linksys Extender Setup signal. After your computer connects to the Linksys extender..4) Open a web browser.5) type http://extender.linksys.com in the address bar.6) Now you re in the extender setup application. Just follow the instructions provided. The Linksys extender will find the available networks to join. Select to join your network from the list of available networks put in your password and you re pretty much good to go. Once the LinksysAC1900+ Wi-Fi extender joins your network the software will tell you the installation is complete and the light on the front of the unit will turn to solid green.7) Now you can unplug the extender and move it around your house till you find the optimum placement. Just plug the extender into a wall outlet and the extender now will automatically log onto your network. Now you're ready to log onto it. Once up and running I really love the extender. The set up application worked really well for me too. Unfortunately the documentation reads like stereo instructions and if you try to follow them, you ll only get disappointed.This is a really useful piece of hardware and once you understand what you have to do, installing this extender is really quick and easy! Too bad the documentation isn't as good as the hardware! Only three stars and I think that's being generous. 3A Must Have! Battled for 5 years with signal in this house! I've finally won! Just recieved today. Took 5 minutes to install !!! I am SOOO Happy! I have an almost 7000 sq. ft. house. I now get 4 - 5 bars everywhere. I was getting only 1 at the furthest bedroom. Now it bounces between 4 and 5 bars! My speed is incredible. I tried a Netgear version and No Dice. Returned immediately. I was so hesitant about buying this! But what a piece of equipment! I had ran ethernet to my basement off my Lynksis AC1200 Main Unit (same name as this amplifyer) to an old Netgear g/n router and that was covering most of my house. But there was no way to run it up to my second level, well personally anyway. This little baby did the trick! And the best part being on my second level I can work outside with Pandora just a Rockin' in my ears on my phone! Guys I got maybe 5 meg down with video skipping and not even 1 meg up, upstairs. Now I get 28+ meg down and almost 8 up, upstairs! No more skipping and my PS4 rocks the games now! Don't hesitate! And dont buy a cheapy. Tried it. Like I said, No Dice. I will repost in a month or so and let you know if I encountered any problems. I'm piggy backing off a Lynksis AC 1200 Dual Band unit. As many of you know the 2.4ghz signal gets out far. But the 5 ghz band with tge faster speed usually has half the bars of the 2.4 ghz. Not any more! I have been battleing this 5 years! And it appears I might have finally won. Shew! Thank you Linksys! And Thank You Amazon! Took a week and a half to get. But worth the wait and every penny. If this review was helpful, please hit the button. Mark. 5A nightmare to set up, but once working is incredible. This extender is really great, the only problem is the set up process. It's a nightmare to get working, but once you get it up and running its incredible. I am really great with technology, thought the setup would be a breeze, but had to talk to technical support who knew less than I did about the set up issue. I would give it one more star, but if someone who does not know how to set up one of these extenders tries and fails I feel that really is a big part of making or breaking someone's expectations of the product. 3Instructions were easy to follow I am not a tech person and I had this operational in under 10 minutes. Instructions were easy to follow. My signal strength issue has been resolved. The only downside is that it has its own name & password... so you have to link all your devices to it and connect to it/ select the wifi network as needed. I did not take a star away for this bc I am not sure if this is typical of these extenders or not. 5Linksys support is worthless. Pros: Nice looking plastic brickCons: Worked great until the Linksys firmware auto-update hit. Seems they do this with all their products, and they can't grasp the concept of QA testing for software.Had the same problem with my last router from them, but that router had a feature to revert to previous firmware. Linksys support does not make previous working firmware versions available. Will never buy Linksys products again. 1Continues to disconnect from the Internet Was very excited to see the performance of the extender after I followed the easy to use setup. It worked surprising fast.... for a few hours. Then it disconnected from the internet and I was unable to get to access any web sites. I reset set my entire system - cable modem, cable router, and Linksys extender. It started working again. I thought that solved the issue. No such luck. After a few hours, I was not able to access the internet. I called Linksys tech support. Technician instructed me to not use a surge protector for my cable router and to plug directly into the wall. I had little confidence that this would help but I listened anyway. Technician walked me through the installation process all over again, confirmed internet access and said my issue has been resolved and that I should call back if it persist. Well it did a few hours later. Called Linksys again and this tech seemed more knowledgeable but was still unable to resolve my issue. She had be reset the extender and again told me my issue was resolved. I was not convinced and told the technician that this is not a fix. Very disappointed in the product and the poor diagnostic tools available. 1Brought my system to its knees I used this with the Linksys EA9300, which is a great router.I know very well how to use networks, routers, switches, etc.I set it up in range extender mode with duplicate network names for each band, and 802.11r roaming enabled.I used the linksys utility to determine the optimal extender location (quite close to the router).1. Very little range increase.2. Significant speed reduction.3. The router w/ extender handed out duplicate addresses, and clients stopped working.I tried numerous changes to the setup over several weeks, and finally unplugged and tossed it aside. 1
