WARNING: THIS IS NOT A TOY! WARNING: THIS IS NOT A TOY! Keep ALL UV flashlights away from children because UV RADIATION CAN CAUSE BLINDNESS. A notice on the flashlight warns against shining the light into your eyes OR EVEN SHINING THE LIGHT ON YOUR SKIN. Powerful UV lights similar to this one are used for curing and drying inks, adhesives and coatings.This is a review of the LIGHTFE ultraviolet flashlight which outputs a wavelength of 365nm. (Do not confuse this with model which outputs a wavelength of 395nm and cost a few dollars less.)UPDATE May 2019: CONTRARY TO WHAT THEIR OWN DOCUMENT SHOWS (see photo) the model designation for the 365nm flashlight is UV301D. The model designation for the 395nm is UV301A.This is a review of the LIGHTFE ultraviolet flashlight model UV301D outputs a wavelength of 365nm.As of the date I'm writing this review, I've noticed that FOR SEVERAL OF THE LIGHTFE FLASHLIGHTS, the product descriptions, technical specifications, questions and answers, and even THE REVIEWS HAVE BEEN CO-MINGLED.Also, a single specification might show two different wavelengths and/or two different battery configurations or battery sizes. So, you can use the price to determine which model you are ordering. The higher priced models have a higher frequency (and therefore a shorter wavelength). 365nm (nano meters) is shorter than 395nm.The UV301D is well designed. It comes in a box that includes one AA battery, two extra O-rings, a pocket clip, and lanyard. The operation of the tail-cap switch is click once for on, click once for off.I attached the pocket clip to the flashlight but was unable to clip it to my shirt pocket because the clip presses extremely hard against the flashlight. However, the "pocket clip" will securely hold the flashlight to the your pants pocket.I attached the lanyard and it works fine. However, attaching the lanyard was a challenge. If I had it to do over again, I would probably first feed some thread through the lanyard holes, and then use the thread to pull the lanyard through the holes.The user manual says that the battery output is regulated to provide a constant brightness and that the batteries should last 2.5 hours. The battery may last 2.5 hours, but NOT with constant brightness (see my test data below). It's drawing a lot of power from the single AA battery. To get 3 watts out of a 1.5 volt battery requires 2 amps! The trade-off is that it provides a lot of UV light output WHEN THE BATTERY IS NEW. This is a good trade-off because you get an extremely bright flashlight in a compact size.I ran a test using ZTS battery tester that I got right here on Amazon. (Please see photo.) I started with a new battery. The tester showed the battery charge was 100%. Using a digital timer, I ran the flashlight for 5-minute intervals and then checked the battery after each interval. The tester showed that the battery ran down quickly. Here is the data from my test of the UV301D.Elapsed PercentTime . . . I must note that the reviews you see here, appear in both the UV301D and UV301A, though these have different specs. You won't know what you are getting, relative to the reviews. The Amazon description page is mostly in Pidgin English and so is the instruction manual. I didn't find that too much of a problem but it can be confusing for some.I wanted a 365nm UV source which is what the title and description said. The pictures in the description showed a clear lens. Mine arrived with a UV pass-through filter, which proved to be a definite ADVANTAGE. This is exactly what you need in a UV source for activating visible fluorescing materials for viewing. The uninformed consumer may complain about the visible light output being low but this is a plus. It is much more useful for this source to have the highest invisible to visible ratio or CONTRAST. The UV301D does this very well. Far superior to the generation of LED portable black lights from years ago. Since I haven't had this long, I will update this review of any changes in performance or reliability. I am attaching a video I made of a Millipede on ground at night, showing approximately the contrast ratio you may expect. 5Probably the best 1xAA powered UV flashlight High-output 365nm UV flashlight built into a well-fabricated clone of the classic Fenix-style "AA" host. This is a rebadge of the UV-AA01 light from Tank007 at half the price.MUCH higher output than the $10 zoomies seen all over Amazon; approaching that of the Nichia-based lights from Convoy, Jaxman, Nitrcore, and Tank007 which require 18650 lithium-ion cells.Oddly, the (poorly translated from Chinese) instruction sheet mentions the use of a lithium-ion cell - something directly contradicted by all of the other material concerning this light; so I wouldn't even dare try.Very good beam pattern. Includes a pre-installed ZWB2 filter (which is necessary because the UV emitter has too much visible light output without filtration).This is probably one of the best AA-powered 365nm pocket lights out there right now. 5A Skeptic Impressed! I don't give 5 stars easily. This little light is a powerful UV flashlight that emits very little visible light, but it's impressive at making florescent things light up. I can't speak to it's power at curing UV glue, but it's claim of emitting a good bunch of 365nm light seems spot on. 5Higher Grade Performance with a tightly focused beam UV output is tight, clear and filtered providing a focus stream of high energy photons in the desired spectrum for UV glues and other UV reactive coatings. More sophisticated components. Work with a rechargeable battery with no modifications. Overall the size is bigger than a penlight and about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of multi LED types. But the big advantage with this unit is the dichroic filter. That greatly increases the contrast of the fluoresced materials.Nicely made flashlight. 5dud great looking light, presentation is good.but should have listened to the other negative reviews.It's not a true 365nm UV LED, it's a lens.The Lens is not optional, you can't remove it, making it obvious to me, as the other reviewer stated.... not the true 365nm UV LED, its all lens.The advertising shows the lens as if they are optional, along side the light.The lens really dulls the output.Pass on this one, and try another. 1Best AA battery UV flashlight out there. I'm surprised that Fenix or Olight or some of the other big names are not offering UV flashlights yet. This is a big name quality flashlight. It has the features that I like; hardened glass lens, heavy duty body and switch, anti roll, good waterproofing.It comes well packaged with a battery, lanyard, strong clip and two spare o-rings.The only downside is it is fairly long at 102mm. (I find myself hoping that Olight or Zebralight will make a smaller version of this).We use these UV flashlights at night for nighttime disc golf. The UV quickly charges up our glow discs and glow tape.Update: 1/29/19Loon Outdoors makes a much smaller AAA battery version of this that measures a mere 2-7/8". Loon Outdoors makes these for curing their fly fishing glues. If smaller is better, check it out. 5feels nice in the hand True 365nm flashlight with a powerful beam and a filter that eliminates most extraneous visible light (the visible light you see when you shine it on a surface is fluorescence). Construction quality seems high; feels nice in the hand. Works very well for resin curing -- and it's fun to shine it around a dark room to see what glows (don't shine it in your eyes for even a short time, though -- remember, it is an invisible but very powerful beam. High intensity UV light is not friendly to your retina!) 5
