Customer Reviews

Wide but thin Better than a kingstone. Doesn t take off a lot of metal very quickly. This stone is suited for someone who knows what they doing when they sharpen their knife, if your a novice, get yourself a kingstone and 20$ Sysco knife. Or you will ruin this stone. 4Polished finish / loads quickly Very thin and mounted on a base. It's a very hard splash and go so the thinness is probably not an issue. My issue with the stone is it loads up very quickly and must be cleaned often on a single sharpening session. It leaves a very shiny and sharp edge but with my Japanese Carbon Steel (#1 White Steel) knives it cuts slowly because of the loading. 3High quality stone. Great stone. Quality appears very high. Some reviews complain about adhesive being left behind when removing the sticker. The trick is not to fold the sticker over 180 degrees. This will separate the adhesive from the plastic. Once you get an edge pulled up, keep the sticker at about a 30 degree angle and pulling with the left hand, pull up and to the left. Just the opposite with the right hand. You may still have some adhesive on the stone, but not as much. Soak the stone before trying to remove any left over adhesive. If you try to remove it dry, you will press the adhesive into the pores of the stone making it difficult to remove. 5Nice feedback Nothing is perfect, but this was a good value, despite wearing a little quickly. I would definitely buy it again. I might still do it. 5Great stone but.. The stone is really smooth for sharpening and is a great intermediate polishinig/sharpening stone. The stand works really well and it doesn't seem to slide around too much even on a wet counter top. I can feel the quality as I sharpen and I doesn't seem to require much effort to use. My only reason for not giving it five stars is the thinness of the stone. In the picture the stone appears to be thicker than what I received. So this leads me to believe that the stone will not last as long as I originally was thinking. With that said, I didn't see any obvious signs of excessive stone wear that would imply this stone will not last. I did however, purchase the naniwa chosera stones from a different site and they were much thicker and a great pleasure to work with. Shapton #220 is pretty nice as well for serious work. 4Very high quality water stone Fine enough to put the final polished edge on any knife, even though they claim you need crazy fine stones like 8000 or 12000 or so... this will not take chips out of a blade, but with water can do some light cutting to put a beautiful edge on your favorite knife. It will not work without water. The stone is very soft, and breaks down and makes a fine slurry that actually does the cutting and polishing. That's what makes this one better than many of the others. It will not scratch or damage your blade. Be sure to keep it clean, since foreign material can damage your blade. 5The splash and go convenience of the Naniwa Super Stones is great The splash and go convenience of the Naniwa Super Stones is great. It's awesome for a quick touchup on and edge. The stone is hard and feels very smooth even at 1000 grit. My only complaint is that it seems to load up with metal fairly easily. Also pay attention to the thickness of this stone, to make sure that what your looking for. It's fairly thin, but its on a base, so it's not going break easily. 4Not bad at all. I love the color of the stone, but man it is small. This is the thin version. This is certainly the softest feeling of the "splash n go" stones i've used. A little softer than my shapton glass stones. It has a great feel, it even gives a little feedback, which you generally don't get off of these style abrasives.for a 1000 grit stone, it leaves a VERY nice polish, too nice if you ask me.Say you are used to using something like the King 1,000 grit stone, and you tried to use this as your 1k instead... you would be in trouble. Generally speaking a 1k stone is anywhere from a medium coarse, to a medium stone. This stone feels more like a 2k. With a my king 1k stone, I can easily set a new bevel, this stone isn't quite coarse enough. I was a little disappointed with this concept, but that is not to say I don't like the stone. It cuts very fast, wears slow and has a nice feel. The only real drawback is that it is fine for a 1k as I stated above, and also it tends to load up a bit more than it should. Loads up like a high grit stone, this is not good. I did however go ahead and buy the 5k stone so I could use them for my routine sharpening.I would recommend this stone! 3Great Stone. Better than I expected. Using three stones for most of our kitchen cutlery. 1000, 5000, and 8000. I have put razor edges on some rather cheep knives but the edges on our harder steels (Rockwell 60 range) come out really nice. Tomatoes can be cut as thin ass paper and that is no joke. 5Great stone. Better than I expected. Using three stones for most of our kitchen cutlery. 1000, 5000, and 8000.
