Customer Reviews

Inconsistent Quality Some of these are great and work as described, while the others have such a weak magnet. There is a lot of inconsistency in the quality of the product. Furthermore, I ordered two packages and I have at least four catches that do not have a "floating" magnet. The magnet is locked in place which makes it not nearly as effective as the ones that "float" properly. 2Works Great !!!!! I used them for an amour that I bought from an outlet store ...the parts that came with the products were so cheap that the doors to my amour wouldn't stay closed .. these magnetic closures worked great and the also blended in 5A very sturdy, sensible and reliable magnet. We use these in all the dark, stained wood, built-in cabinets we've made around our house. I was concerned if the nylon would be robust enough, but these work fine and are plenty sturdy. I'm not sure if I'd use them outside where the temps can drop super low. That might shorten it's life (?).A metal surround would be the only thing that would make this magnet better (which are available), but we chose to save a few $ and went with the nylon/plastic type. These are a great value for the price. We like our cabinet doors to be inset, sitting flush with the face frame. These magnets catch the door and keep it closed flat. We, personally, use them top and bottom on our doors to prevent warping. So far, so good, after 10+ years. They do make a "click" sound as they grab. We've never used them in the kitchen as they may be obnoxious clicking all the time. 4Priced right, strong magnetic latches! I bought these to deter my cat from constantly opening lower kitchen cabinet doors. Guess what. THEY WORKED!Took my time installing them, about midway of the door height, making sure the magnet fully contacts the metal plate. It takes a pretty good tug to open the door, which was exactly the effect I was looking for.Several others have commented that the screws are soft and "chincy". They aren't the best, but usable, IF you have the correct size drill for pilot holes and use a new/sharp phillips bit. 5too are very strong and you have to give a good solid tug to open them I have mixed feelings about these, the first screw I tried to put into my cabinet broke which caused an issue with where I wanted to put the magnet since the broken off piece still stuck out enough. I have put 4 of these on now, too are very strong and you have to give a good solid tug to open them, the other two are much easier. I prefer the easy pull, I basically just want the magnets to keep the doors from being a little open in our house. I wish there was more consistency between them so I could plan better. But for the price you pay I suppose it is a good deal still. 3Inexpensive serviceable magnetic catch Nothing fancy, just a plain small magnetic catch with a plastic body. Has the proper "float" of the magnet within the plastic body, so the magnet adjusts to the door and strike plate. Have had ones with a fixed magnets, and they do not work well at all, unless you are meticulously careful with installation -- and then they work themselves out of alignment. But these seem to do the job just fine.Comes with catch, strike plate and matching phillips-head screws. No problems with installation, if you are careful. You should drill pilot holes for the screws if the wood is hard. A little vix-bit works wonders for the strike plate pilot hole. Careful on the screws. They are phillips, so will cam out. I set my Bosch drill to the lowest clutch setting -- 1 -- and it works like a charm every time. Absolutely no problems with the small screws.Fairly strong magnet. Time will tell how these catches hold up.By the way, despite the ambiguity in the description, this is for a 10-pack, just as shown in Amazon's photograph.Update 23 Oct 2013Still working fine after a year and a half. The measurements given in the description do not match the ones I got. Mine are 1/2 inch thick, just a bit over 1-1/16 from front to back (including the mounting ears), and 2-1/16 from side to side (including the mounting ears). Center to center for the two mounting screws is about 1-5/8.The strike plate is 1-1/16 by 7/8. 5Be forewarned that the magnet can be installed backwards and cause a poor connection to the mag plate Just got these. I read in a few of the reviews that said some of the magnets did not float. They need to float in order to be able to marry up with any inconsistency during the installation. Out of 10 that I tested, one did not float. I needed to complete the ASAP so one out of 10 is actually 90% and for 8 bucks... I can live with that.Be forewarned that the magnet can be installed backwards and cause a poor connection to the mag plate. Looking at the magnet, you should be able to tell the difference between the front and the back end. The front end juts out a bit so that you can make good contact with the mag plate. Since my cabinets are getting old, I decided to invest in a Bosch chic change 3 piece self centering drill bit assortment CC 2430 available for about $23 on Amazon. That also is a good deal, considering they can go upwards of about $40 just for one. I would recommend drilling a pilot hole first before trying to set the screw, especially if the wood is old and dry. It's worth your fingers and an undamaged cabinet.Using the smallest one, the pilot hole is easy. The finished product was satisfactory. It works well once adjusted correctly. 4Strong magnets! Bought these in an effort to keep my dog from opening my cabinets with her nose and stealing things from within. Success! These magnets hold so well that I now need to put hardware on the cabinets because the kids have a hard time pulling the doors open. But...the dog can't get into my cabinets anymore! 5These worked well to keep my bengal cat out of ... These worked well to keep my bengal cat out of the cupboards. I previously used regular child locks on them but he figured out how to open them and these apply just enough resistance that he cant seem to get the drawers open. Now all I need is one for my toilet and sink handles. haha. 5These magnets work great for a pantry door that These magnets work great for a pantry door that, all of a sudden, wouldn't stay shut. No need to replace the pantry... just add these magnets. Great product. Magnets are just right... not so strong that it's a struggle to open door, and not too weak that door randomly flies open. Easy to install with a philips head screwdriver. 5
