Customer Reviews

Fits my Canon 100-400mm Lens Hood like a Glove!I keep one of my Canon bodies with me most of the time, with a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Zoom lens attached to it so when wildlife happen to come by (my car, my house, where-ever I am), I'm ready. My issue has been, do I keep the lens cap on or not when the camera is just sitting around waiting? When it's just there in the car, or when I leave it on the table, do I leave the lens cap on? Do you? The Canon's 100-400mm hood is large and the lens cap is not easily removed unless you remove the hood. So, precious time can be lost if the cap is on.Then, I found the LensCoat Hoodie, Large Front Neoprene Lens Cap Fits Hoods from 4.25" to 4.75", Black - and wow, this is great. The solution to my problem has been found. This hoodie protects the lens so I don't need the lens cap for those times when it's just waiting. It slips over the 100-400mm hood nicely. It's elasticity makes for a nice fit on this lens. I wondered if it would come with a draw-string, but it didn't, and it doesn't need one. That's good, as that would slow me down when it comes time to quickly get the camera ready for an unexpected subject. The size Hoodie for the 100-400mm Canon lens is the Large 4.25"-4.75" (the lens' hood is about 4.5" in diameter, and the hoodie is designed to stretch to that size just fine). 5Could be better...11/29/2011: I decided to return this item. It does not work for my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras.--------------------------------I bought this hoodie to put onto the lens hood for my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L II IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras lens. My intent was to have this as a dust cover so that I could leave the lens cap off and be ready to shoot more quickly, but protect my lens from dust and dirt.I measured my lens hood and found it to be 4 3/8". This hoodie is supposed to fit 4.25" - 4.75". And it does, but it's not very tight. The neoprene is sewed nicely on the front and has a nice protective pad (removable). It also has a tab to make it easier to handle (?). But the open end of the hoodie is not hemmed, just cut. It's also not very deep, which is disappointing as well. Another inch or two would really make a huge difference. The problem is the hoodie slips onto the lens hood easily, and falls off just as easily. 3Rocks!Another super innovation from LensCoat. Much easier than the Nikon hood. Or the Don Zeck pie plate covers. And they match the LensCoat covers I have on the lense and the LensCoat Flexible Hood. 5Good for protective round front elements of the lensMy husband use this on the lens hood to protect the round front element of his lenses. Works faster than a lens cap which you either loose it or crack it when it hits the ground. 4Two StarsHoodie is too short. Needs to be at least 1" longer. 2Easy to install. Tied on - never lostI use two on Very Large Binoculars. They are tied securely to the tripod, and slip on and off the optical lenses with no problem. They've protected my BigBins for several years and have been an excellent purchase. 5Good for the new Nikon 80-400VRBought this for the new Nikon 80-400VR lens as the XL hoodie, even though it is the recommended one, was loose. I feel this is because of the elasticity of the neoprene. No complaints so far. 4Time Saver in the field vs. playing with lens caps + Added protection when transporting in backpacks and messenger bagsI use this on my sigma 150-600mm lens and it works great. I use a lowepro backpack which would knock the cap off from time to time and leave the front glass element exposed. now I cap it and then place the sleeve over the hood (hood is reversed for portability) and now it is a non issue. After i Set up my gear for a hike or on tripod I use only the sleeve to cover the hood when transporting since the hood itself protects the glass. Takes a while to learn how to put it on fast, but it is instantaneous on removal. 5Needs a retainment system to keep it in place when camera is not being used,,,,falls off right awayI like this idea of a cap / lens protector HOWEVER -- I had to add small bits of velcro onto my lens hood, just to keep it on my lens when I wasn't using it. Several times during a major outdoor shoot last weekend, I had people bring me my cover as it had fallen off,,,for the money spent, I just wish that they had a better retainment system built into it,,,,I DO like it, but I'm sure that severl end up getting lost at some point during an outing. 3Excellent product. With a long lensExcellent product. With a long lens, it is tough to put the lens cap in place with the hood mounted, and this replaces the need altogether. Easy to fit, does not slip off, and helps keep lenses clean in a dusty environment. No cons I could think of. 5
