Customer Reviews

Easy on Stock and Cutting Tools Great bench dogs. Non marring, which suits my needs perfectly. Once these came, I put all my metal ones away. Despite being easy on wood surfaces, these are still tough and support your stock under harsh loading. Even if you hit with cutting edge of tool, you don t destroy the cutter or router bit etc. That alone is a big improvement from my metal bench dogs. 5Fit into 3/4 dog holes is too loose :( As so often with bench dogs, for some reason they make them too loose. This really, really, really cuts down on the usefulness of these. They spin. This is a serious problem. On the positive side, the rubber top is a good idea - not only can you set something on it so it doesn't slide, but you can detach them and put them directly over the dog hole - good innovation, which is why I give it 3 stars instead of 1. 3My favorite bench dogs I have three kinds of basic bench dogs - the plain black rockler ones, some nice spring loaded aluminum ones and these. These are my favorite. They have a nice wide contact area, much bigger than the aluminum and a little bigger than the rockler. The rubber top for setting things onto lets you use them like bench cookies (which I also have and are great). They can't fall all the way into your hole, unlike the aluminum. There isn't much to say - if I needed more bench dogs, I would stock up on these. The only advantages the "traditional" dogs have are that they work in shorter holes (like if you are not using through-holes), and the aluminum ones have a bling factor these will never match. 5I expected better from kreg They are too skinny for 3/4" holes by easily 1/32". This means dance around and tilt in the hole causing the wood to lift or jump about . Even after wrapping them in some tape to fit snug, they still flex under too little pressure. The rubber pads are too soft and flat as well. They should be pointed and hard in order to work well. Usually I like kreg products, but not in this case. These could easily be improved upon. 3It's a Sloppy Fit, no painters point. I wouldn't bother with this but for all the confusing information that is in the description and specifications. You get one package of four bench dogs and four brakes. They are not 3/4", they are .700", and therefore .05" or five-hundredths of an inch small. That makes for a sloppy fit. I will do as another mentioned - place one or two layers of heavy clear packing tape around them to make up the .05".They are not "solid rubber Bench Brake", there is a hole through it. Not obvious in the pictures. There are no painters' points, in spite of twice-repeating "Painter's Point: Provides minimal surface contact for painting/finishing applications."Actual dimensions are 2.435" long, the head is .429" thick / high and 1.260" wide, and 0.700" in diameter in spite of the "specifications" lie of 2.2 x 5 x 6.8 inches! The rubber bench brake is actually closer to .750" "Place in Bench Dog or directly in bench." However, bench brakes do NOT supply a "solid, non-slip surface" . . . you have to keep them clean of sawdust, or they let items slide.Bottom line - not at all a standard I would expect from Kreg, but on the other hand, at this price, they are okay. 3Worth the price For the price, these bench dogs are far better than the ones I made from dowel wood. With one side round and the other flat, they work well for curved edge material as well. The non-slip inserts are a nice touch and work as expected. They are the same size as the dogs so they fit the same holes in the bench. I used them to rout a small board with out it shifting on me. The diameter is "slightly" smaller than 3/4" so they fit snug but are easy to remove. Worth the price... 4Another home run for Kreg I have and use many thing from Kreg. Most of them are very innovative that serve a very useful purpose in the wood shop. I've made bench dogs for years that have worked fairly well but after buying a package of these, I don't have to make them anymore and use them exclusivity. They are the perfect height for both 1/2 and 3/4" material, work as flat or round edge and won't ding a plane iron if they are hit. Inexpensive in the unlikely event I needed more. Thanks Kreg - another great product. 5Adequate, but no painter's point They're adequate bench dogs at an un-Kreg-like value. They're also nothing special. It's important to note that although the product features mention (and a couple of the product photos show) a raised dot that serves as a painter's point, this feature has apparently been removed from the product. Unfortunately, this was a feature that prompted me to select this product. I was disappointed. However, they are otherwise fully functional. 3nice These are very handy and have a nice low profile. I haven't had the chance to place alot of pressure against them yet. But I am sure it won't be long before I do. So far what small amount I have used isn't showing any signs of deforming or stressing around the base of the head. I was worried at first because of these being made of plastic and being hollow. If I had to guess I would say I have placed 30 to 40 pounds of pressure from my benches side vice. For holding a board in place while I used a hand plane to smooth that board. I didn't find the bench brakes as Kreg calls them to be very good but using a small piece of double sided tape and some small pieces of drawer liner together now stops every board I have placed on them to stop in its tracks. One thing I do advise is for you not to have hopes of reusing the box they come in. Kreg went a little overboard with the glue. By the time you cut it all away to open it fully. There isn't much left of the lip for the lid to try and close against. For the price these can't be beat. 5A work horse in wood work shops. These bench dogs are propably gonna be one of your most frequently used small tools/gadgets in your shop without you even knowing it. They are like quiet staff that never fails to do their part yet does not stand out enough in presence to be readily noticed as a true contributing factor. Every time I do wood work finishing, I use these. They support the wood pieces from moving while I plane them, use a carpenter's steel or sand them by hand. They provide a consistent support when I need them. The material used is a durable glass reinforced nylon and they are made in the USA. 5
