Customer Reviews

very cool! really nice if you know what to expect, yes the quality on the 360 degree videos is not fantastic but people forget that it is a large video and it needs to wrap around so quality will take a hit. It is very cool, especially when uploaded to youtube. One thing about this that people may not like is that to save the video for use on youtube, you need to record it at 1 to 1 speed, so an hour long 360 degree video takes an hour to export, though to me this is not really a deal breaker at all. The front facing video is nice quality, and it has a super wide angle which is nice, it also has the option to record at a much lower resolution but at 120fps that plays back in slow motion. Seeing all the features of this camera it is definitely worth the money, especially seeing as the next best camera (ricoh theta) cost almost twice as much and doesn't give you the option of using it as an action camera and does not have any other features making it essentially a one trick pony. With the kodak if you don't like the 360 degree video then you can use it like a gopro. If you want to see how the 360 degree video s look search "sp360" on youtube and set the filter to show 360 degree videos only, but you need to use google chrome or an android phone, it also works with google cardboard type devices! 5Nice action camera junk software Nice action camera. Forget the wide viewing angle / 360 view. The software has been given no updates in yrs. There is one photo option despite having several within the menu in the camera. You will only take pictures in fish-eye view. Forget loading 360 pictures to facebook. NFC also does not work on android 7. Good hardware bad software. I wanted this to work and tried other programs. I paid about $75 through amazon warehouse and I am still sending it back. Was not worth the time/money. 1lots of fun, reasonable price As advertised, lots of fun, reasonable price. I am using it inverted on lower surface of model 4-blade helicopter ("drone" if one prefers the popular melodramatic association with armed military single-engine airplanes). I was concerned I would have to invert the video in post-processing. But the camera handles that setting just fine. I was concerned about the weight load on the small model plane, but no problem. One thing I had to re-engineer for is that the full-180 field of view requires the camera be mounted below the lowest portion of the plane's under-structure (e.g., skids). 5Use CAUTION if you don't want to lose the camera. This is really cool. Easy to use as a stand alone. Easy to use with the Android app.I'd really like to try the PC software but my camera is on the road somewhere.CAUTION!!!The protective cases may protect the camera but it doesn't hold it very well. The accessories come with tethers in the event the mounting fails.Well, mine was mounted to my motorcycle. The mount I used held up great.I tethered the case that was fastened to the mount. The case popped open and... The camera was not there when I arrived at my destination. S#!+If you want to view your videos, find some way to secure the latch on the "protective" case. Duct tape, heavy duty elastic bands, something.I'll find something when I get over the loss and buy another camera.I'll update this after I buy and use my next camera, probably 4 or 5 stars. But who reads a 4 star review.I just want people to know that one good bump and your money is bouncing down the road, or river, or mountain... 1Good Idea, Poor Execution - Perhaps Version 2?? A cool concept, but still needs more development. The camera only shoots in a fish-eye format. Any other format is done via the software on your computer. Essentially what is happening is you shoot a fish-eye video then "unfold" it with the software. But the problem is that to keep the unfolded video the software is basically doing a screen capture of the original video in the modified format. This in turn reduced the quality of the video substantially. What started as a 16mp video is now a 5mp video. I have read that using the "dome" format delivers a quality video experience when viewed through virtual reality glasses such as the Oculus Rift. I have the Zeiss Cinemizers and have ordered the accessory Zeiss Motion Sensor so I will let you know how that worked, if at all. Here is a sample of the outdoor video in the review video after it has been modified and uploaded to YouTube. Notice the poor video quality caused by the software "unfolding" the original fish-eye video.https://youtu.be/CidTpAhR68k?list=PL5nYjU-Cb81kUO1-gcqPICWiKjrVB6qL8 3Delivers what it promises after figuring out how to properly use. After I figured out how to properly share and render pictures and videos correctly in Google photos, facebook and youtube, I realized this is a good choice. The camera itself delivers what it promises. It is required to have a full 360 picture or video in order to share it in facebook, google or youtube. Some reviews incorrectly point to the lack of quality of the picture or video once it is uploaded to facebook or youtube; I say incorrectly, because the video or picture taken with this camera it is of good HD quality. The problem is when the video or picture is uploaded to one fo those services because those websites usually compress your file and in the process, the quality of the file is degraded. These websites do this so that are optimized for rendering on their websites and or use less space on their servers.A full 360 is a full sphere, not half a sphere and this camera can only take half spheres (dome mode). Full sphere pictures (photospheres) can be easily obtained with this awesome camera by using a tripod, take one half of the sphere, then rotate 180 degrees the camera, take the other half, then stitch them together using Kodak's free software. Then you can export the stitched picture and upload it to your favorite social media website.A similar principle applies to video but it is a little more involved. For video, if only using one camera, one hemisphere can be shot and then stitch it to another of equal length in time in black and no sound. In this way, the video can be rendered properly in youtube or facebook. The resulting video is a 180 degree FOV. The other option for full 360 videos, is to buy the dual Kodak camera adapter, and use two Pixpros then film on both at the same time with a front-back lens configuration and stitch the resulting videos together for a full 360 video.Note the new lower price of this camera; with two of these, we get a well rounded set of equipment for a very low price. This dual configuration is better than the Theta SC in terms of video capacity since the Kodak you can put a 32GB SD card in it and this configuration is similar in price. The camera also has the ring, panorama, front and segment modes. Up to now I have only described how to take pictures in 360 using the dome mode. As for the other modes, they are cool, but in my case I would only use either the dome mode for 360 media or the front mode for filming action movies on a bike or car.All in all this camera is fun to use. One bad thing I found is that I noticed a blue edge while taking pictures in cold temperatures.I used both the free software that can be downloaded on their Kodak website and the android app. Both work well, not perfect but both do what I care only to do. With the Kodak PC software I am able to process my media for sharing. With the android app, I am be able to set the mode press the shutter button via my smartphone. 5A good camera with bad support team This KODAK SP360 is a good camera. Of all the 360 degree cameras on the market, it delivers adequate quality video (or picture) and gives users the software to view footage in many angles. But, the tech support is near non-existence. The company behind this camera is not KODAK; it's a company called JK Image. When I contacted JK Image for technical support, I waited 3 days to get a response. The problem is not resolved (I cannot connect my computer to the camera by USB or WiFi). I downloaded user manual and read it from page 1 to index but there is still no answer to the problem.By the way, the LCD and the menu on this camera is not very intuitive. I actually have to learn the symbols, menu trees and what to do when I want certain settings after studying the user menu for 4 hours. In summary, this is a good camera with KODAK picture quality. Too bad KODAK is not willing to support it from home office; they outsourced this task to a company (JK Image) that did a poor job. 3Not perfect, But a Decent 360 Degree Video Camera The SP360 camera is on the leading edge of the 360 degree video technology. As such, it as well as most of the upcoming "consumer" type 360 cameras, suffer from less quality resolution than what we are now used to in HD camera video. On YouTube, the video is only currently viewable as "immersive" 360 degree video using the Chrome browser or the Android app. Which allows the viewer to pan and tilt to view the entire 360 degree scene. The Android app on a smartphone or tablet is the best experience in my opinion. The "front" mode allows the camera to function similarly to a GoPro style action camera with less resolution choices. The camera itself seems well constructed. Although I do have an issue with the battery compartment cover. The sliding latch does not seem to hold the battery cover closed. So the cover can fall off.A fair amount of accessories accompany the camera depending upon which "kit" that you purchase. The lens "hood" is an important accessory that helps to keep fingerprints off the lens cover. One glaring omission in my opinion is the lack of a tripod adapter. Although there is a tripod socket on the side of the camera, it is for the "front" facing camera mode. And does not orient the camera so that the lens points upward in the 360 degree mode. By using one of the SP360 cases, some metric hardware and a GoPro tripod adapter I have a work-around solution that works well. (See photo.) I wish the accessories were sold separately. As of this review I do not believe they are.Battery life is about 2 hours. Much better than my GoPros. The Android app is workable but could use some polish.I have several SP360 videos on YouTube at my basicbill1 and basicbill2 channels if you'd like to see what's possible. This is the beginning of the 360 degree video age. Which may or may not take off. If you're interested in getting involved, the SP360 is a relatively inexpensive entry. Just don't expect too much right now with the current consumer technology. 3Nice 360 cam if its features will meet your needs. I've had a lot of fun with this camera. Sure it only does 360 x 180, but I have found that to be sufficient for my use (i.e., mounting it on top of my car - who needs look down onto the car?) Image quality isn't going to win any awards, but again, it's fine for my use and doesn't really look too bad. The build quality is good, easy to use via the onboard buttons and the Android app works fine. The desktop software needs some work, but once you figure it out it does an ok job. Overall I'm happy with it and am enjoying having it. 4Great entry level 360 camera Great entry level 360 camera. Photos are great quality, have taken several in indoor lighting conditions with good results. Videos are a little grainy and a little choppy. They serve my purpose for the moment - to get familiar with 360 video and photography. I like the additional capabilities of taking pictures and video like a traditional action cam. It can replace my GoPro Hero 3, and give me the additional features of the 360 capabilities. Be aware of the 'black band' which will display at the bottom, since there is no camera on the other side of the unit. The phone and computer apps are clean, simple and easy to use.For what you get at this price point, I think it's a great value for the money. I'm using this to supplement my Gopro, so it makes a great second camera so long as you are ok with the 1080p quality, and lower video quality. There is a 4K version released recently, if you are looking to do production quality videos, the 4k is the way to go. 4
