Customer Reviews

Best bookshelf speakers for the $$I debated about these speakers forever. I did lots of research and read lots of reviews. I also used to work at a national electronics retailer before they shut down in the home audio department and was in charge of the sound room. So basically I spent months comparing speakers with customers with every kind of music and movie imaginable. Let me save you a lot of time and debating: Just But These Speakers! They sound amazing for the price. Listening to music, the difference between this and my old HDT500 Front Left/Right speakers is readily apparent. What is really surprising is when watching a movie, as FL/FR speakers they still blend with the HDT500 center until the music starts playing, and then they jump to a whole new level and you just kind of get a "Wow!" moment.Goods:Fit great in a bookcase. Under 10" tall with the rubber feet, perfect for Bookcase/Bookshelf. Unlike most people, I actually have these in a bookcase and they fit perfect.Great sound. Movies sound great, music sounds even better.Stereo separation is amazing. My Denon receiver never sounded so good!Great value. Got them for $103 which is half of retail.Pair great with other Klipsch speakers, even lower quality/smaller/older design. They don't "overpower" a small/medium size room. I have a 12'X19' media room and their physical footprint is small yet they fill the room with sound perfectly.OthersHoles for the speaker grills are GIANORMOUS! Wish these had the magnetic grills like newer Klipsch.May not be big enough for large rooms or rooms that have 2-floor tall ceilings.Really need 8-9 hours to break in. The Copper IMG woofer needs to break in, tweeter sounds great right out of the box.Still need a subwoofer. I listended to them without the subwoofer and there is a giant hole in the bottom end.Best value and quality on the market today.5Read you won't be mad.Ok so I'm starting my sound addiction. BY THE WAY ORDER FROM AMAZON SERVICES INC. THEY ARE REAL I CALLED KLIPSCH TO TRIPLE CHECK THEY ARE THE REAL DEAL! Klipsch is the way I decided to go instead of svs. Small speaker game is strong with these and with the Christmas in July sale I couldnt just pass it up. Klipsch R-14m speakers sound great. The imaging is pretty spot on and the highs are on point but can make you go deaf. They definitely get down if you know what I mean with the lows. But not low enough... Paired with the Klipsch R-10SW, (deep breath) it is the best 2.1 system I've ever heard. Take advantage of the sale now and you can have a great sounding setup for $275 with the Klipsch sale. I'd still pay $550 for it all! Anyway if you are looking for a great PAIR of small speakers you have found them. But like I said if your looking to get LOW;) you are going to need a SUBWOOFER. Thanks for reading this Btw amp is a SMSL Q5 PRO5New Listening PleasureI bought these speakers for my wife. She has had a small Sony multi-function system in the kitchen where she loves to bake and listen to CD's. To me, the sound was muddy and lacking the detail I knew was on the CD's she plays. The challenge was finding small speakers that were enough of an upgrade to be worth the investment. It took some time to convince her that new speakers were needed, but when I set these up and played one of her favorite CD's, she was in awe and couldn't believe what she had been missing. Now, the volume is up and she's going through her entire collection hearing all that she had missed... great little speakers... big sound and clarity.5An Upgrade in Quality at a ValueWhat a difference these speakers made! I use them as my left and right channel speakers in a 7.1 home theatre configration. I replaced ordinary Sony bookshelf speakers and the difference in sound quality and sound depth is amazing. For only $99 what a value. I searched, not only Amazon, for the best value/quality ratio and this what I selected and I can't be happier. This is also my first purchase of Klipsch and I plan to look into this brand when considering speakers.5added a Polk subwoofer and put on "Zep's" "Whole lotta love. " My first response was "damnI needed a couple of bookshelf speakers to complete the "Man Cave" pool room in my house so I decided to bypass the ELAC B6s for these. I hooked them up, added a Polk subwoofer and put on "Zep's" "Whole lotta love." My first response was "damn!" I then did an A/B test with my Polk bookshelves. The Klipsch speakers sounded fuller and more pleasing, but together they filled a 400 sq ft. room with amazing sound. I then tested the new Klipsches with an analog test record. The moved air down to 30hz & I could hear clear tones at 10,000 cycles. They reproduce music of all types very well from classical to bluegrass & everything inbetween. Violins & brass are exceptionally reproduced & drums are "crazy" good. The Klipsch R-14M are worth the small investment. PS: I just bought the ELAC B6 Debut for an upstairs Cambridge based system. I'll review them after I give them a test listen.4These speakers are excellent. I have two pairs of them and for ...These speakers are excellent. I have two pairs of them and for $99 a pair free shipping it's a steal. I have them connected to an Onkyo TX-SR603x pushing 90 watts RMS into each. They handle it fine and can play very loud. I couldn't be more pleased with these.5I figured bookshelf speakers of a reasonable size and a small power amp with just a few bells and whistles would do nicely. A remote control was not an issueI wanted to put together a stereo system for a small office in a spare bedroom. It needed to have a reasonable FM receiver as well as the ability to send and receive music to/from a Windows computer. I figured bookshelf speakers of a reasonable size and a small power amp with just a few bells and whistles would do nicely. A remote control was not an issue. My budget was $200.After reading the positive and negative reviews of several candidate systems offered by Amazon, I settled for a Pyle PDA6BU amp and a pair of Klipsch R-14M speakers. I ordered both from Amazon and they both arrived safely in two days. Total cost was $188 including sales tax.I hooked up the speakers using 6 feet of old 18 awg lamp cord, connected the included radio antenna, and powered the system up. After poking around some of the controls (yes, I agree that the included instructions are somewhat lacking) the system scanned for radio stations within range. It found the one classical radio station I was looking for, along with a bunch of others. Bringing up the volume I was delighted with the overall sound quality and balance. There was some odd clicking in the radio that gave me some concern, but I discovered the radio works very nicely without the antenna, and the clicking went away!I tried some music from my computer using the AUX jack on the Pyle front panel and was delighted again. Well past midnight I tried a wide variety of music stored on the computer an assortment of classical, folk, pop and country western. This amplifier/speaker combination handled them all just fine. The speakers have good base and treble balance. There is no sign of amplifier hum or hiss just good sounds through the speakers. In summary:* Are the Pyle PDA6BU and Klipsch R-14M a good matched set? You bet!* Did this set of equipment meet my requirements? Absolutely.* Would I recommend this equipment to someone else having similar requirements? Without hesitation.* Did I receive any type of remuneration from Amazon or Pyle or Klipsch for any of these comments? Not a dime. This is just a nicely matched set of amplifier and speakers.* And, yes, the blue pilot light is too bright.5Update: Great customer service from Klipsch! Cone separated after 6 months.Bought these to replace FL/FR surround speakers. Sounded much better in the beginning, and as time went on a distict rattle could be heard from one of them.I pulled the grill to inspect, and the surround around the cone looked fine. A slight bit of pressure, and the cone popped off. It had been separating at the center for weeks.I expected more than a year of service at moderate levels. What a disappointment.Update:Went to Klipsch's website, sent an email with the details, and received a prompt email stating they would replace the defective driver. It's a shame it failed, things happen. I'm happy to say they stand behind their products.4good little speakers. surprising soundI gave the same review for all of the Klipsch components for my home theater system (because they're all really great in my opinion):My first experience with Klipsch products but I've always wanted to give them a try. In the past two months I've created a modest home theater setup, consisting of:Toshiba 60" Smart TVTivo BoltYamaha RX-V679 AVRRC 42-II center speakerRB 51-II (2 sets) as front left and right speakersRS 42 II surroundsThese R14-M to use as "presence" speakersR12-SW SubwooferSo these are "presence" speakers or fill speakers and sound great in my room, which is about 13 x 18. Crisp, very responsive and clean. I know some might consider them to be a bit on the harsh side but I like their brightness. I had a Bose Lifestyle system for several years and it was okay but kind of muddy at higher volumes. These speakers reproduce sound across their range with precision and, as I said, a very clean sound. One of my goals was to also have pretty good audio capability and this system is nice for that (not audiophile quality but still quite good). I have several hundred CDs that I ripped to FLAC and put on an external drive and my PC is running a DLNA server. Sound quality is amazingly good and well beyond what I had expected with these speakers. They can also be unforgiving with poor quality source media so bear that in mind.Over the years I've owned lots of equipment, dating back to my first amp, a Fisher tube amp from the early 60s, some Marantz, Crown, and a bunch of other stuff. I'd say these speakers will serve me well for some time to come.5Impressed with these little speakersThese small reference series speakers replaced some stock speakers I got with a reasonably nice stereo that I use in my office. I have listened to CD's, mp3's and vinyl and they do a nice job across the board. In fact, they're so clear I could hear limitations in low-quality recordings. These speakers do great with jazz, acoustic and ambient music. They don't have a ton of low end, so if you're looking for pounding bass you'll need to pair with a sub or push these to the rear channel and use something stronger on the front. For the price, these are a steal, get'em while you can. These are very nice little bookshelf speakers.5
