    does not work on all new kiddie detectors Some of the new kiddie detectors have connector prongs that are off-center. This adapter will plug in but when you try to screw it to the ceiling plate, the off-centered plug pushes the detector off-center. The end result is that you cannot use it. I ordered 5 detectors to replace across the house. Two of the detectors were centered, three were off-center. It was annoying because I bought the adapters for convenience. 3Easy, no problems. Strategy might make it easier Worked well to change up the three in-line pins to a 1 on top, 2 on bottom pin arrangement. I had the best luck putting the adapter onto the back of the new smoke alarm and then plug the existing connector into that. Getting the new adapter to click in to the alarm requires strong thumbs and it's awkward to try to do it while standing on a ladder, sweating and holding onto two things at once. Get the adapter into the alarm and then go about connecting. 5Adapter requires adaptation for Kidde model KN-COSM-IBA I purchased 12 of these to convert from my expired Firex smoke detectors to Kidde model KN-COSM-IBA combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It seemed easier to use these, which adapts the Kidde socket to existing Firex plug, than to rewire the existing box with the new harness included with the detector.They didn t work.The adapter plug fits fine on to the 3 pin detector socket, and also mates fine with the existing Firex plug, but the adapter diameter is too big. It s not possible to screw the detector on to the ceiling/wall plate because the adapter edge extends probably 1/8 beyond the plate center hole circumference on one side.I was able to grind down the offending side of the adapter on a bench grinder, you could probably use a file or a knife to do this, but know that it doesn t fit without doing this.See before (left) and after (right) photos 3Probably not really needed, and they don't accept returns! If you are replacing your hardwired smoke detectors (which, why else would you be looking at an adapter?), your new smoke detector likely comes with the wires needed to install them. As long as you can loosen a few wire nuts to replace the old wires, then tighten them again to get the new ones there, you don't need this product.Since they also refuse returns, don't order from this supplier until you KNOW you need them! $10 wasted...should have gone to WalMart, they would take them back and it wouldn't have taken a week to get here... 3Saved hours of time Coming from 17 year-old Firex detectors (model FADC) these saved literally hours of time by not having to wire in 12 new wiring harnesses. One bit of advice though is to install them on the backs of your new detectors first so they're all set up and ready to go. The squeeze tabs were really stiff - so stiff in fact that I could not use my fingers to squeeze the back prongs far enough apart to install on the backs of the new detectors - it was downright painful! I discovered the best way is to line them up on the back of your new detector and then use a small screwdriver to carefully spread each prong wide enough to fit into the hole they slip into. This was much faster and saved the fingers. 5Works great for our application We needed to replace a Firex FADC (120-1182C) smoke alarm with a new Kidde i4618AC Firex smoke alarm. This KA-F adapter plugs onto the new smoke alarm and accepts the three prong AC connector that had been supplied with the old smoke alarm. Essentially, it saves you from having to put a new connector on the existing wiring. If you like working over your head on a ladder, you can save a few bucks by replacing the connector instead of using this adapter. Note that the adapter is about 1/2 inch thick and will intrude a bit into the wall or ceiling. If there is already too much wiring squished into the space, you could be in trouble. 5Time saver! This just saved me so much time!! My existing Firex smoke detectors are 15 years old. Last week one started beeping and wouldn t stop even with a new battery. Then I read online that the average life of a smoke detector is 10 years. Also, interconnected wired detectors have to be the same brand, so as much as I would love to replace all my detectors with smart detectors, with 10 units over three floors, $1200 for new smart detectors wasn t in budget. I had to replace my old Firex detectors with Kidde/Firex. This adapter plugs on to the new Kidde/Firex so all I had to do is change the ceiling plate (a couple of screws to loosen) and then this new unit plugged in to my existing Firex wiring. It took five minutes to change out a unit. No re-wiring required which makes this a DIY job even for a novice. Spend the extra for this handy adapter, you won t be sorry!!! 5Not comaptible with all Kidde detectors, your results may vary Ordered these with my new Kidde units when I had to replace my old hardwired Firex detectors. Connector appeared to work fine until I tried to install the detector onto the ceiling mounting plate for COSM-IKidde KN-COSM-IBA Hardwire Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarm. The adapter protrudes and interferes with the mounting plate. I used my Dremel to remove some of the plastic but it was generating a huge mess and I had six detectors to replace! Poor design turned a quick task into a potentially longer job. I ended up rewiring the interconnection harness using the Kidde parts and returned these adapters. 3Five Stars Glad I bought these even though I could ve done the wiring it these are real time savers. 5Work well once installed with some tricks Makes the job of installing the smoke detector fast and easy. HOWEVER, the plastic clips that hold the adapter onto the smoke detector are bent in and must be pried while putting this thing on the smoke detector to get those flanges wide enough to go into the holes.If you try to just insert this thing without prying those hinges/flanges/clips............whatever you want to call them...........you will not be successful in getting this thing onto the detector.Increased rating from 3 to 4 starsafter installing smoke detectors but NOT 5 stars because of irritation in attaching to detector because of the shoddy construction of these adapters in the mounting clips. 4
