Customer Reviews

Poor quality thin steel I really really wanted to like this knife but in the end I m really disappointed. I ve carried it about a month and the whole time i was just waiting on the tip to break off....the blade just felt and looked too thin for everyday use....and then it happened....the tip broke off. There was no prying action, no twisting or hammering just opened the blade today and saw that the blade tip was gone and I have no idea how or when it happened; but it s gone in less than a month. For the money, this blade should have lasted longer. On a positive note, the grip and balance felt great and overall the knife felt good in my hand while I was using it.This the third kershaw I ve had in ten years and unfortunately this one may be the last. 3Solid performance for a good price. Solid performance for a good price.Pros:Price, weight, size, looks (blackwash looks cool), easy EDC knife choice. Opens and locks securely. Fit and finish good. USA made.Design is robust enough for actual use. So far have cut branches, small saplings blocking trail, ranging from 1/4" to 1/2" in diameter quickly without issue, opened cardboard boxes, padded envelopes, cut food including hard salami among other daily tasks and the Kershaw Blur BW handled them all without protest. Survived a drop onto rock with only a few minor scratches to the handle, (didn't take due care to ensure the clip is fully engaged when returning it to my pocket), so now it has 'character.'Easy to sharpen. After some abuse cutting small saplings, a couple of swipes with a ceramic 'steel' smoothed the edge out nicely.Minor Cons:Dull as dirt when arrived; so much for Kershaw's rep for shipping sharp knives, by this example. Might have been missed by factory QC. May have a different idea of useful sharpness. Didn't take too long to get it useable with a stone. This my first Kershaw and not a big deal, IMO.Opening action very, very tight when rec'd and prone to hanging up. Lubed it and played with it and by the following evening was opening without a hitch. All in all, a good, quality, useful knife that should perform well for years. 5My favorite "daily carry" blade This is my 2nd Kershaw Blur (my 1st was donated to TSA.....) and it's by far my favorite "daily carry" knife. The action and spring are solid, the profile is thin and comfy in my pocket, and the finish looks great. Also the textured rubber inlays really help keep this knife solidly in your hand. I'll be buying my 3rd Kershaw Blur just as soon as I lose this one! 5A Quality EDC Favorite. The Kershaw Blur has been a stellar performer thus far. I wanted an American made knife with decent steel at a great price point and glad I chose this particular model! The knife itself is very sleek, and was a tad bigger than I thought it be (which is a good thing on my end). Edge retention on the Sandvik 14C28N is better than expected. Only had to sharpen it once after cutting down a good amount of bulky cardboard boxes to fit in the trash bin. It still had a great cutting edge and I have no doubt that I could continue using the knife for much longer, but I like to keep my knives paper-slicing sharp. I blame OCD and not the blade itself. Resharpening on a couple whetstones is a breeze with this steel. Just a few swipes and its back to its hair-splitting sharpness. I also strop the Blur using an old leather belt and Herb's Yellowstone compound to give it that polished edge, creating a slightly longer lasting edge in my experience. The Blur is a simple, but great looking knife. I fell in love with the blackwash finish and the Trac-Tec inserts definitely helps with gripping. It has quickly become my main EDC pocket knife for utility purposes and has proven to be quite useful for everyday tasks both at home and at work. You won't regret buying this product! 5Sharp as H*ll Apparently I ve never owned a quality knife.I ve collected cool pieces and used knives as tools for day to day for years but never really spent a decent chunk of change on a nice brand that s known for quality. The construction of this is solid, it looks great, and feels great in your hand. This knife is sharper than anything I m used to and that s my fault for ignorance but wow. Accidentally touch yourself with the blade? Boom painless cut. It will shave hairs off your arm and I d be surprised if you couldn t shave your face with it.This is my first foray into a nice knife and Considering my first experience I m not sure I d spend a second considering another model without purchasing it.Be careful, and don t let kids play with it because apparently I can t even last 2 days without playing with the flip and cutting something accidentally. 5Love most of it, not the liner lock PROS This knife works, feels and looks great. The blade holds a sharp edge for a long time, and the subtle concave blade (kukri style) not only looks great but helps it cut better. It's one of the nicest pocket knives I've ever seen. It's super light for EDC, and very comfortable in the hand. The shape and texture of the thumbstuds are great, making it the most precise and comfortable thumbstud opening knife I've used.CONS I wish that they would put the carrying clip closer to the edge, so that it would sit deeper in pockets. As it is, it sticks out more than necessary. It doesn't offer much finger protection: The thumb grooves on the back are small, and there is just a shallow curve that acts as a finger guard in the front. Although it would change the slick curvy lines of the knife, I would prefer it if it had a more aggressive finger guard, or even better, a thumb flipper which doubles as a guard. Lastly, what bothers me the most of this knife is the liner lock. If you look closely at the picture i posted, you'll see that the lock, which in itself is to skinny to make me trust it, doesn't even engage fully. Because of this I wouldn't trust this knife for any heavy duty abuse. 3I HAVE BLUR VISION ! I already own several Kershaw Blurs and decided to purchase this one because I wanted to add a Blackwash version to my collection. I really like the Kershaw Blur in all its varieties. I personally think you get a lot of knife for the money spent. It feels great in the hand, the blade material 14C28N Sandvik Steel with Blackwash finish is superb! Handle is made of anodized aluminum and has Trac- Tec inserts that provide for a good grip on the knife. The assisted opening of the blade is smooth and quick that it actually is ironic that the knife is called the BLUR since the opening of the blade is like a blur before your eyes. Reversible pocket clip tip up or tip down. Kershaw Speedsafe USA printed on the handle. Pocket clip has Kershaw engraved on it and the clip has a Blackwash finish. Ambidextrous thumbstuds on the blade with the model # 1670BW KAI Patented Ken Onion Design printed on the blade. There is some jimping at the back spine of the blade and also on the handle on both sides that correspond to where the jimping is on the blade. Like I said, you get a lot of knife with a lot of detail and great quality for an affordable price. A great collectors knife for the modest income knife collector or just a great EDC knife for anyone looking for an EDC. 5Very nice product. Feels solid in the hand and is ... Very nice product. Feels solid in the hand and is well constructed. Blade is centered nicely between the frame plates out of the box. Deployment is fast and smooth with solid locking characteristics. The knife is nicely balanced when opened and is very comfortable in forehand or backhand grip position. The Track Tech grips are great providing a non-slip grip. The knife slides cleanly in and out of a pants pocket without snagging. Something that is not mentioned in many of the reviews is the fact that the blade pivots on phosphor-bronze thrust bushings on both sides. This provides for incredibly smooth action and great blade stability when opened.I have read several comments on other websites regarding concerns with the locking system. I am not sure if Kershaw has since modified their design or if perhaps the issue was related to a manufacturing process deficiency that has been corrected but my knife locks solid. I can place a tremendous amount of closing pressure on the blade and the liner lock tang does not move. Given the fact that issues have been reported with the locking system it is prudent to exam it before use. 5LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER!! I ll say this, I m newer to knives and having an edc, but I recently got this for everyday and outdoor use. I work in a warehouse, and I hike and fish frequently. So far, this knife has exceeded all of my expectations. I read 100+ different reviews on all different kinds of knives for edc. Started narrowing around this one.I was nervous because some of the Amazon reviews specifically for this knife was that it might be a fake Kershaw. Mine seems to be real. Serial number on blade. Came in Kershaw packaging. Looked new all over (some had said that they thought it looked used). And the most impressive...how sharp it was. Amounts my research into knives, saw a lot of sharpness tests and whatnot. When I saw the slicing of a sheet of paper test, I decided that s what I was going to do.LIKE A HOT KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER!It even impressed the guys that were standing around us while we did it. Everyone had eyes the size of saucers. Very sharp right out of the box.Well done Kershaw Highly recommended. 5a total steel for price! pun intended Did not disappoint! The blackwash and the fact that this blade is made in America quickly make it a favorite in my small, but growing, collection. The Rat 1 lives up to the hype, with the unassisted opening being much smoother and faster than my assisted openers. Seems a bit sharper out of the box, too. on the bigger side, but i kind of like it that way.The Oso is the easiest, with a decievingly large and sharp blade. i use this one for boxes and paper around the house. the sweet comes in a tie for third with the brawler, which is more or less the same knife, just more attractive (but harder to open with the thumb). this one is purely for self defensive purposes.after doing a lot of research online (youtube, bladehq, esc forums). i decided on the blur;and it just so happened that amazon had the blackwash version for $45 - WIN!blackwash is great. i'm not afraid of wipping it out in public since it's not as shiny and scary. also, i'm not afraid to use it and scuff up the pretty black like i am on the brawler. overall, this is a great edc for someone just starting. 5
