Customer Reviews

It ok. It works and is holding up.This rheostat works, to a point. I bought this to use on a whole house fan. It works well enough as I can slow the fan down about maybe 30-40%, before the reduction in speed starts affecting the motors windings and forcing the motor to labor. Is a 30-40% reduction worth it for the cost. I think so, as at full speed, the whole house fan sucks trees into the house! Just kidding. I have had it for two summers now and it has held up well. Not a great product but good enough for my need.38 amp - Designed to be used WITHOUT any wall plate! 6 amp smaller8 amp is like the 10 amp version picture in that the back will fit a standard wall electrical box but the front is so wide (2-5/8"), it cannot share the box with another switch (see photos). Designed to be used WITHOUT any wall plate. I had to return it because the KB switch that was installed originally is smaller like the size of a normal dimmer switch and there is another light switch next to it. This huge one will not fit because it cannot be used with any wall plate. There are no screw holes for a wall plate. The black front protrudes from the wall. I'm sure it works but the description and photo are misleading and it must be installed as a single switch without a wall plate. The 6 amp I ordered (to replace the 8 amp I returned) works great and is like the photo where it is small enough so you can install it even if there is another light switch next to it; then you have the option not to use the provided silver wall plate and just use a wall plate instead. The 6 amp has three wires (not including the ground) and can be installed using only 2 wires and ignoring the red wire.5Works OK, unit slightly damaged - looks used. The unit works fine (so far) to control the speed on my fireplace fans. The instructions left a little to be desired as far telling you how to wire it in (two red wires don't show which to connect to the hot wire and which to the load; turns out it doesn't matter). The unit looks like it had been used or handled as the faceplate was scratched and dented slightly. Also, it did not have a protective plastic cover that I would have expected. 4Good INDUSTRIAL ControlElectrically good, but the views did not show that this model has a honking big finned heat sink that sits above the surface of the wall covering the entire area of the duplex box. The heat sink has sharp corners, is black anodized, and must be mounted vertically to allow for convection air flow. Also, the front panel does not screw on as shown, it is a flat sheet which must be arched slightly to slide into grooves on the raised heat sink. In whole, maybe this is the reason they tell you to mount it high on the wall to keep it out of reach of tiny fingers. This unit yields an electrically good but rather "industrial" appearance installation. You may want to file the corners smooth.3I can't get this to work. OK, it ...I can't get this to work. OK, it might be me, but I've installed devices similar to this one with no problem. I installed the unit and turned the know to slow the fan and while it did slow a very small amount it was not enough to make a difference, in fact, barely noticeable. I attempted to use the adjustment, but then the fan would not start. I spent hours trying everything and I still cannot get it to work. I'm going to keep the unit and try and use it on another application just in case I am doing something wrong or my devices are not compatible.2Right controller, wrong pictureThis controller works well. I had a 10 amp unit before on another whole house fan and loved it. However, the picture is not the 8 amp unit I ordered this time. The 8 amp unit is better represented by the picture of the 15 amp controller which has a wall plate with protruding cooling fins and a face plate that slips into groves in the front which allows cooling air flow behind the face plate. The picture for the 8811014 should be corrected.5Fantastic ProductUPDATE0 first one only lasted two hrs when I adjusted the stall screw it just sizzled. 2nd one screw adjustment works just fine, but now my motor has a small hun, not bad, but I can hear it. First one was dead quiet till the adjustment sizzled out, But I still recommend these. Now matter how good a product is, there are bound to be a few defects. First off I had people telling me I could not use this on a Holmes window fan. Well I am glad they were wrong and I was right. This little baby works perfect, no noise, no heat and looks good. I even checked my fan motor for an increase in temperature, guess what, nope. And no funny motor noises as with most other speed control switches on the market. Simple and easy wiring. No adjustments were needed on the speed screw stall adjustment.I think everyone I spoke with said I would only get a max down to 70% some said 50% speed. Well I can go as low as I want with no ill effects. Most importantly doing that with no noise or heat issues is a huge bonus. So now my entry level Holmes fan with this controller is better than their most expensive so called adjustable fan. Cant say enough good things about this controller. If your wondering should you get this or something else, just get it.4It works, but the picture is wrong.Am revising my previous one star post to instead give four stars. 1 star deducted for bad misleading product picture provided by Amazon. The controller comes with a ground wire which was not depicted in the product picture. Installed it by capping the ground wire with a wire nut. As to the product itself, it was easy to install. All the parts were provided (except for electrical tape to seal off the wire nuts). And the product works on my whole house fan. Prior controller was 6 amp.(with only two black wires and no ground wire). This controller is 8 amp and seems to work fine. So far, after 30 minutes, nothing has shorted or blown up.4Good replacement for 1980 vintage Sears whole house fanController was replacement for original Sear whole house fan speed control (no longer availble). I have replaced original three times but none including this one enable fan to attain full speed capacity. However this one gives best performance of all replacements I have used. Others got very hot even at mid-Range. This controller came with a heat sink and runs cool even at full speed.4Photos of the productA lot of people are complaining about the picture on the display is not what the product looks like, so I took photos of mine to help you make the right decision. The sticker on the faceplate, below the knob, is of my own making.5Great Variable Speed Switch! This switch was exactly what we had been looking for! We had been on the search for months around our area to find it and it wasn't in stock anywhere. It is the exact switch (upgraded of course) that we put on our fireplace box 25 years ago. It fit in perfectly and was easy to install. The variable speed is nice because you can adjust the blowers with just a turn of a knob! It turns from off to low, to medium, to high at just the turn of the switch. I highly recommend this product! I will be ordering a couple more to have around in case I need them again!5
