Tiny, Conversation Piece, Prepare for Zombie InfectionOk, this dynamo radio is a little smaller than I expected it to be; we're talking- fits in the palm of your hand. A bad thing? No. What this diminutive little gadget lacks in size, it makes up for in dense heftiness and great build quality.Appearance: buttons and toggles are straight forward; red LED lights to indicate radio on, green LED lights to indicate charging from either the dynamo or solar cell- lets you know that the internal cell is receiving juice.The Crank: actually kind of fun. Has a solid feel that reassures me that i'm not destroying the radio by juicing up the battery.The Tuner: receives FM and AM stations with little effort- can tune in AM 1120 KMOX (St. Louis) from Chicago. Shortwave reception isn't bad, does a slightly better job than my little standalone COBY shortwave. Does not tune Weather Band stations; but doesn't AM/FM generally make those redundant in all but most unique situations?Volume: can be as loud as you need it to be, no issues in that area.The "flashlight" function: kind of cheesy; not that bright- uses the el cheapo bluish 'white' LED's but a welcome feature in any case.Phone charging: didn't work on my Droid X2, may work for you. Not really disappointed that it didn't work.Bottom line:::::::::::::::::::25.00 is a little too expensive for this radio, but with it's host of features and completely self-sustaining power system, you'll be uniquely prepared to catch emergency warning information in even the most post-apocalyptic of zombie outbreaks. To say he was very pleased would be an understatement..For a small radio it has very clear sound, loud enough at 1/2 volume, a bright light, easy to crank and everything worked exactly as advertised. 5I really wanted to like this. Really.This product has a number of well thought-out design features. It is solidly built, the crank is sturdy. The flashlight is a handy feature. It offers am/fm and 2 sw bans. The sound on the radio is very good for such a small radio and it picks up stations well. It can be powered by aaa batteries, rechargeable battery, crank and solar. It recharges cell phones.The problem is the execution. The rechargeable battery did not work very well. After cranking for a couple of minutes, the battery would not hold a charge. I recharged it for 8 hours on my computer. Battery died within an hour-no power was being drawn on the battery. Also after about 75 minutes of use, the AM band no longer worked. This radio is designed to be a back-up radio but mine was unreliable. Returned it to Amazon. 2voyager grank radio chargerI like the dial as in old radios. It's much better/reliable in tuning in channels. Light works well. The crank is not flimsy as I see. It's compact & light & does a good job sound/interception/cranking et cetera. 5
