    Disappointed You get what you pay for. It wouldn't keep the correct time. I don't mean it was a few minutes off now and then. I would set it and it would work for a couple of days and then all of a sudden it would be hours off. It was very difficult to operate the alarm. I would have to set it for my daughter (who was 11 when I bought it) and it Wouldn't go off at all or it went off at the wrong time. Even the player frustrated her. Very disappointed 1Great enough. I recently recieved this radio/CD player as a gift, and so far I'm really enjoying it!Positives:-The instruction manual is pretty simple, I only used it a few times, and every time I found what I was looking for.-Audio quality is pretty solid. It has a mostly clear tone and sound that you can turn up easily. Of course it's not AMAZING, but it allows you to listen to the sounds you want to hear.-There's no parts you have to construct or anything! It works out of the box.-Has a wider shape, but isn't unnecessarily heavy, either.-It's easy to learn. The buttons are labeled, and everything you may not know, like the program button, is explained in the manual. Most of it is self explanatory.Negatives:-The buttons are hard and don't exactly push easily. It requires a bit more pressure, but then again, this isn't a hugely expensive radio/CD player.-No brightness feature. I don't mind this all that much, but some may not like it.-I personally find it annoying to press the "function" button for all the modes, and having to hear radio static as I get to the CD or audio input function. I wish they were seperate buttons.Summary:If you're not looking for luxury, then I would recommend this radio/CD player on the sole basis that "it works". It may not be pretty and perfect, but it does its role like it's supposed to do. It plays CDs. It allows you to listen to the radio. It supports audio input, and it has a clock and alarm feature. They may not be innovative, but it definitely works as what it's supposed to be--and is still worth a try. 4Technology It took me just 10 minutes to have the entire system set up and personalized. The manual is accurate as published. Most such manuals are written for a 6th grade reading level. My 4 stars is based on the fact that their is no provision to manually adjust the LED brightness. But, I solved that issue since a face the clock while sleeping. I use a "Blue" semi-clear DVD plastic holder lid. Placing it in front of the LED area, it reduced the brightness by 50%. One could perhaps cut a piece from the lid and then tape over the LED area. Not for everyone I suspect, but the idea does work and the dark "Blue" tends to curtail the luminescence from the supplied green LED's. Every thing else including volume and programming the radio stations works according to the manual. READ THE MANUAL!Additional material: After playing a complete CD. The unit goes into stand-by mode. Much like a windows based computer that goes into "sleep mode." The clock radio system is still powered up in "stand-by." Pressing the power button, unit will turn "off." Leaving the unit in stand-by, power is still applied and to my knowledge does not power down until manually turned off. Leaving the unit in stand-by mode could, over time, effect the working life of the unit. Like most electronics, "applied power" units age faster over time. I would expect an average life of 5-7 years leaving in stand-by mode all the time. 4Worst piece of merchandise ever. The worst piece of merchandise I've ever bought. The difficulty lies in getting the clock and alarm set. The instructions do not seem to jibe with the actual directions that work (they're the same whether online or in the packaging). I would give it to Goodwill, but it seems unfair to an unsuspecting buyer, even if they only pay pennies on the dollar for it. Believe all the other one-star ratings you read below. They're true. Shame on you, Jensen, whoever you are. 1First one that works, if you can figure it out I have been trying to replace a Panasonic CD Alarm Clock that the CD player stopped working on. Unfortunately it is no longer made, shame, appears it was the last of the well made cd alarm clocks on the market. Of all of the latest models I have tried, this Jensen is the first one that works. Now, I have no idea who wrote the instructions, but wow, horrible, absolutely horrible instructions. Trial and error is what I ended up going with. The buttons feel very cheesy, the CD player is extremely sensitive, the slightest bump and it skips. Additionally, where the Panasonic would allow you to set an alarm to a specific starting track on a CD, this Jensen just starts at the beginning, once you figure out how to get it to alarm on a CD. The volume is plenty loud enough for an alarm clock. I have not had it long enough to tell if it's a keeper yet. Still in testing mode before I trust it to wake me up when I need it too. 2Great Alarm Clock - Read The Instruction Manual - That's Why It's There My old alarm clock bit the dust after a power surge during a storm a couple of weeks ago (even though it was on a surge protector). I had the alarm clock for around 15 years and miss it very much. I saw this Jensen JCR310 alarm clock on Amazon and was hesitant to order it because of some of the bad reviews. I decided to order it anyway. This alarm clock is great. It comes with an instruction manual - IF YOU READ IT - you should have no problem operating it. The alarm clock has everything my old alarm clock had, even the color of the clock display is the same - avocado green - the only thing different is my old alarm clock was silver and the Jensen alarm clock is all black. Read the owners manual and you should have no problems setting the time, setting the alarm or playing a CD. The only thing I found unusual is the back-up battery compartment is located under the CD lid instead of the bottom of the unit like most alarm clocks. I have tested everything on this alarm clock that I will be using and they all seem to work fine. It is also heavy enough that it will not be flying off your end table when you hit the snooze button. I give this alarm clock 5 stars. 5Keep looking - don't bother with this. Don't bother with this one - I've bought one from a big box store and one from Amazon, with the same results so I know it's the item in general and not one specifically. I have tried plugging into different outlets, always the same results. After 2 years with this clock, I can say that the only thing this does even marginally well is keep time. Whatever the cause, I have had 2 of these "go bad" on me (yet bought from different merchandisers).The buttons don't consistently function as labeled - sometimes the 'forward' tuning button starts tuning backward, so instead of moving up the radio dial, it moves down. The alarm is inconsistent, sometimes changing the format from radio to AUX; the input/format button is also the on/off button. I believe it has to do with the internal wiring, because unplugging it and resetting all the times seems to work for a while. I know it's starting on a malfunction spree when the snooze button quits working. The problem as I see it is that all the buttons have dual function, so I suspect the unit gets confused about what you intend. However, after several mornings (over the last 2 years) of waking up late because the radio station had been reset to 87.5 (not a station in my area, so no sound came out of the unit), I'm giving up.I bought this to replace a stellar unit from a major manufacturer, that finally wore out - it had CD/radio alarm capability that Alarm 1 could be Radio and Alarm 2 could be CD. This Jensen unit is incapable of such technological advances, even though it's 20 years newer than that old radio. I'd be better off with two separate alarm clocks instead of this unit. 1Decent Product, does what needed I was really hesitant to purchase this product because of all the negative reviews about how complicated it is to use. I am glad that I decided to order it anyways and it is not nearly as complicated as what people are saying. I would have to agree the quality is a little low, but for the price that is what you are going to get. The radio does exactly what we needed it to do: show the time, set alarms, alarm can turn music on, sleep mode plays music for a specific time at night and then turns off, etc. I have spent only a couple of minutes with the alarm clock and have figured out how to use all of the functions and never even opened the instructions. I would recommend this product to others for sure. 4"Lots of Problems" Positives:* Wake up to a CD. (There aren't many units that provide this functionality)* Has battery backup (a necessity).* Large numerals for the time.* Can take input from a smart phone, etc. (3.5mm plug).* Having two alarm times is helpful.* The price is reasonable (more or less).* You can go both up and down in setting numbers such as time and alarm time. (I really hate clocks that force you to go through 23 hours or 59 minutes if you miss by one.)Don't like:* If you do have to go forward by 59 minutes, there's no way to speed it up.* You can't adjust the brightness of the front screen. (Not a big problem for me, but it might be for others).* The user interface is confusing and nonintuitive. (For example, the way you turn off the alarm is by pressing the power button far back on the left-hand side. Who would've guessed that?)* The instructions are confusing and poorly written. If you work at it long enough, you can figure it out, but who wants to spend that kind of time? (I'm an ex-technical writer. This is really bad).* A typical instruction: "If you select Wake to music, please set the volume level of music/radio with the power ON before putting the unit into Standby mode." This raises the questions: What is standby mode? How do you get into and out of it? Will the alarm still work if you're not in standby mode? (etc.) (In the design arena, it's widely believed that anything that has "modes" is a bad user design).* Because there are a lot of buttons and the instructions are confusing, setting it makes me nervous. What if I pushed the button wrong and the alarm doesn't work?* The only way to verify the alarm time (important to do, don't you agree?) is to go through the same procedure that you would use to set the time in the first place. This is cumbersome.* I'm guessing that most people would buy this for using the alarm to wake up to a CD. (If you're going to wake up to a radio or cell phone, there are cheaper and better units.) But to wake up to a CD, you can only play track one from the beginning every time. This can get a little boring.* If you use the "wake to music" (not alarm) function, you automatically get the same source that you last used (CD, FM radio, AM radio, etc.). But what if you want to wake to CD but listen to the radio during the day? Now you have to fiddle with the machine before you go to sleep.* The sound (from tiny speakers) is okay to use to wake you up, but nowhere as good as a typical boombox. Thus effectively the unit has only one real, full quality function: as an alarm clock.* The print on the buttons is pretty small. With older eyes I need glasses and good light to see it.* To tune AM or FM, you press the >>| or |<< and wait until the radio finds the next strong station. In practice, this means that if you commonly listen to two stations that are far apart on the dial, you have to laboriously go through all the in between stations. Generally, you'll decide it isn't worth it. However, there are presets.* There are 10 presets for each AM and FM. When you figure them out, they work fairly well. The only problem is this. Say you are on FM. You have to press the memory button up to 10 times if you are past the station you want. You have to go through all 10 positions even if you only have two stations set. Whoever designed this should be ashamed of themselves.* The way you distinguish between AM and FM is that there is a decimal point in the FM number. The way you know you've selected CD is that the screen says "__." (I.e., track zero). You can get used to all of this, but it's not a great user interface.* To my knowledge, there's no way to know whether the backup batteries are bad. (In better machines, there is a light to show that the backup batteries are active). This means that the first time you'll find out that your backup batteries are bad is after the unit fails.I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to keep it. It's a real tossup. 2It REALLY isn't THAT hard folks! This is a good clock, I heartily recommend. I first got this clock to replace a simpler one that played cds. When I was looking at the reviews I got quite nervous because a lot of people said they couldn't figure it out, (including people who boasted about holding prestigious jobs and degrees). But it doesn't cost too much, and I'm alright with tech, so I gave it a shot. I'm very glad I did. It works well and is quite easy to understand once you understand one VERY SIMPLE thing.WHAT IS THE MYSTICAL MAGIC TO THIS ALARM CLOCK??? There are two (2) modes. Because there are so many functions, some of the buttons have to do double duty. There is a clock mode where the buttons manipulate the clock. On clock mode you can set the time, set the alarm, hit snooze, and turn off the alarm. On radio or audio mode, (it's just one mode, I just forget what the instructions called it since I bought mine some time ago), you can cycle between radio, cd, and aux, set the volume, playback mode, etc. THIS REALLY SHOULD NOT BE TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND. What seems to confuse everyone is one of two things. First, if you want to have a cd play as your alarm, you first have to go to audio mode, put in the cd, set the audio mode to cd, make sure the volume is good, etc. Then you go to clock mode, and set the alarm. This WHOLE LONG PROCEDURE takes me 10-15 seconds. It's not hard.The second confusing thing is that you hold down the button that changes the mode to turn off the alarm. (I think it's called power/standby.) This button only changes the mode, and turns off the alarm. It's not that hard! If the alarm is making noise, and you want to make it stop, (outside of hitting snooze), then you hold down this button. When it isn't making noise, you just press it normally to change the mode. THIS ISN'T THAT DIFFICULT!Now it's true the instructions aren't great. But is two modes REALLY that difficult to grasp? All the buttons are easily labeled. One mode has its labels in black text on white, while the other is white text on black. A couple minutes of pushing buttons, and reading the labels for the buttons, and I got the whole thing figured out. I've had it for a few years now, it still is working great, and if it ever breaks, I'll be buying another.tl:dr THERE ARE TWO (2) MODES! One changes the clock. The other changes the audio. If you want your clock to play a cd as an alarm, set the audio to cd, and then set the alarm. Two quick steps? Yes. Theoretical quantum physics? No.PS: I weep for humanity... 5
