    Defective I got this in the mail, only to find that the plug had been installed upside down, so you can't charge the light without it falling on the floor. I've attached a photo so you can see what I mean. This makes it unusable. 1Decent, not outstanding.I gave this 2 stars previously because it looked like the prongs were upside down and a 90 degree turn mentioned in the instructions would not get it upright. When I happened to look at the video on the order page (which I thought was just a standard PR ad), I saw that the company said you could put it in the socket upside down and then turn it 180 degrees. Previously, I tried to turn the unit by hand, following the included instructions, and couldn't accomplish that task so I returned them. After I saw the video, I ordered one and it too looked like the prongs were upside down. But after inserting it into the socket, I was able to turn it right side up. I'll give it 3 stars now as it works well for a few years but there is no function on the unit to signal that it no longer works and the included instructions are not thorough at all (SOP)--so I subtracted one star. Amazon and/or Ivation should make it very clear both on the ad site and inside the box, the exact moves that would make the unit usable. It would save Amazon some money in returns.3Power off - then there is light!I have used these lights for years - have several throughout my house. They are wonderful. When the powergoes off, they go on and stay on until you decide to click the button to turn them off. Battery has neveroutlasted the time I needed it and sometimes power is off for long periods; of course only needed after dark.I did have one that malfunctioned - light would come on when no power outage - still could use as a flashlightbut replaced it with one that works as it is designed - power off - light comes on. Wouldn't be without them.If you have several and use one at a time, would have light for a LONG time.5Charging bases fail I loved the product but the base unit fails and it is useless. I have bough 2 replacements but an weray as to the long term. 1Failed After A YearI purchased two of these over a year ago. The concept is great. If the power goes out, the light goes on so even in the dark you can find easily find it. Or you can just use it as a regular flashlight. A few months ago, I found that the base was no longer charging the flashlight. I ordered a new one hoping that it would be just an anomaly - sometimes things break. Well, the second one that I had purchased with the first over a year ago also had the base go bad. When that happens, it won't charge the flashlight. I had give this a high rating when I first bought the two units, but now I have to downgrade the product to one star.1Relatively dim, doesn't seem very safe near childrenThe flashlight is pretty dim, so it's not particularly useful for going outside. But perhaps more importantly, the rotating plug assembly within the charger base seems dangerously flimsy; I had a young kid accidentally turn it too far, shorting the wiring, tripping the breakers, and leaving some nice burn marks on the socket. Not a very encouraging sign.I would much rather recommend this model from the same manufacturer, which also happens to be a lot brighter - although the design of that light means that you can't plug anything else into a two-outlet socket, so there's that.Oh: the on-off button is fairly flimsy, and that's another thing that our kids managed to accidentally break (they weren't doing anything malicious, just using it every day at bedtime to have some fun). The flashlight is glued shut and not easily serviceable, so fixing that is not fun.2Love it, love it, love it!A friend gave me one of these several years ago. I live off the grid, solar power in the day, but generator at night, so I have to go outside in this dark rural area a few times every night. This light is pretty bright, and most of all it's reliable. The charge lasts a long time also. The charge base finally quit (I've had it 5 or 6 years, at least) so I was so glad to find a replacement. Now I have 2 flashlights that fit the same base. They hold a charge for quite awhile after being charged, so i always have a spare. I know most people don't live like I do, but with this you always have a light that comes on with a power failure. There's also a soft night light in the base that you can have off or on. And the base will rotate so that you can put it upright no matter which way the outlet slots are aligned.5Assembled incorrectly in ChinaI am sure this is a great product, and I will order another right after I return my first one.The three-prong grounded plug was assembled upside down on the one I received.On a standard three-prong grounded plug, the ground pin is on the bottom. The one I received had the ground plug on top.It is designed to rotate 90 degrees for horizontal outlets, but it will not rotate 180 degrees.I'll let you know how the replacement one works.6/22/2016 Get what? I bought two more hoping the one was faulty, but the two I received are also faulty. I emailed and called the supplier/importer and got no response to my email with pictures. I received a voice mail at 5 AM one day (they are on east coast time) just saying to call back. Did so three times and always voice mail. It could be a great product if done correctly.1Nightlight Too Bright and Comes on Too Soon My old emergency/automatic light worked perfectly. The biggest problem with this new one is that the nightlight comes on in the middle of the afternoon, even on a bright day, when the sun first passes the windows. It is a very bright room with 5 big windows in it and the light should not come on so soon. Also, the nightlight is so bright that it is visible 2 rooms away. I put it next to the head of the stairs so it would be handy if we need to go down stairs during a power failure.UPDATE: After submitting this review, I received an email from Ivation that read like a bully had sent it. To paraphrase, they said that I should not have posted the review before contacting them. There is nothing that I did not like about this product that they could have changed. It did not perform as well as the previous light in the same location and I wasn't about to move the light to a different location because I needed it there. Also there is no setting on the light to dim it so the brightness couldn't be corrected. If they wanted to improve my experience, they could have suggested that I contact them for help. Instead, they chastised me for filing a negative review. 3ON/OFF/AUTO Switch unmarkedThe Bad: The first Ivation light I ordered did not work. That in itself didn't have to be a particular problem. Things happen. However, the AUTO/OFF/ON switch on the charging base is totally unmarked, and worse yet, the instructions' bottom view illustration is incorrect, and that sent me down a rabbit hole that wasted a lot of my time trying to troubleshoot the problem. Had the base been marked correctly I could have quickly determined that it was faulty and sent it back right away. Please note that if you look at the bottom of the charging base with the electrical tynes facing away from you, ON is on the left- OFF is in the center - AUTO is on the right. The instructions show the opposite. I'd ordered the original light about 10 days before my mother's birthday as a gift. We couldn't get it to work right away so I set it aside to troubleshoot it after returning from a 10 day trip out of state and subsequently exceeded the return period (lesson learned).The Good: I ordered a second light, as my elderly mother has a specific use for it, and it worked perfectly from the get-go. When the light works the switch positions become intuitive despite being unmarked. It is a cool device and very functional. It's great for any room where you'd like a nightlight and/or flashlight in the same location.3Buyer Beware quality control issues! -- had to returnReceived the item and the grounded plug was installed upside down. It only rotates 90 degrees. It is only useable in a incorrectly installed outlet or a horizontal outlet. I see now looking at the reviews that this has happened to several people. Quality control issues appear to be unaddressed. We would love to hear from you and are committed to your total satisfaction. -- DBROTH"Before I posted this review, I emailed them "The base lights up normally, but the flashlight itself does not function at all. Upon receiving it from Amazon, I plugged the unit it for 3 straight days to charge it (trying it out after each day), but still the flashlight will not respond to pressing the button on the side of the flashlight. Please let me know how we can proceed so that I can get a fully functional unit."DBROTH sincerely apologized and asked me to return the product directly to them. Only problem was that they would not pay for return shipping, even though it was a faulty product. I decided to return it to Amazon, with return shipping paid by Amazon instead. I guess DBROTH was not exactly "committed to my total satisfaction." I want to believe that this faulty unit was an isolated incident, and I even ordered the same thing (through a different vendor) to try a second time; I just wish DBROTH handled this return better.2just rightI wanted nightlights to illuminate the 2 sets of stairs in my townhouse as a safety measure and I wanted them to turn on and off according to the amount of ambient light. I also wanted the ability to use them as flashlights during power outages. But I didn't want anything super bright and I didn't want motion detectors. I bought and returned several other brands of nightlights until I found these. I bought 2 of these and they met all of my requirements. My only complaint is that I wish the light was warmer, maybe more amber. But that's a minor issue. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase.5
