Customer Reviews

Nice huge heatsink, blazing performance when load balanced. Full disclosure, the first card I was sent was DOA. I contacted Amazon who forwarded me to the vendor, and they were very happy to assist and sent me out a new card, did not even ask for a return of the dead one. This is how you win customers and get good reviews if there are issues. So the card itself is nice and sturdy looking, not some wafer think junk. Nice large heatsink on the processor which makes me think that it will have a nice long life. Install as always is simple, standard card here nothing special to talk about.Ok so performance. I have this in a Ubuntu 17.04 server which is a plex media transcoder slave, so I set these up bonded using BalanceXOR as my ghetto switch does not support 802.3ad so balancexor it is. Setup went great and I show them load balanced both running full 1gig links. Response times as well as over throughput over my single 1gig link has easily doubled (or more) throughput and lowered response times a solid 1ms. I honestly did not think for something like video xcoding that I would see this dramatic a performance increase, but yeah there it is.As a side note, Ubuntu 17.04 did recognize these right away and no additional drivers were needed to be loaded or anything special. Just add and put them in interfaces. 5Beware of seller I purchased 2 cards.. both cards don't match which is Interesting... In my opinion, the one I installed so far after looking at it.. doesn't appear it was new.. I think they gave me a used card(like I would EVER believe it was accidental...). It does appear to have been cleaned in some places but it definitely does not look new in my opinion. You can see where i circled, Dust on the card between the port and the chip. Also, I circled where the copper is corroded under the screw head. Looking inside the ports, Looks like a ton of collected dust. The second card I received was pristine. That said, card works fine. I guess they didn't expect me to buy 2 :P 2Gotta go fast! Worked perfectly for a latest pfSense! Would definitely recommend! When it comes to NIC it s really intel or driver issues. For something dealing with virtualization, firewall, VLANs, Linux, Aggregate bandwidth you won t go wrong with this card. Speaking of which it work like a champ with my home vlans and layer 3 switching via the pfSense! 5Works with pfSense! This device works very will with pfSense, which is why I got it. I needed a card with two NICs and a low-profile bracket, both of which I received. It performs very well, and as I stated before, the drivers are available in pfSense, and is detected without issue on at least pfSense 2.2+. 5No link aggregation in Win 10 This network card is outdated because Intel does not support link aggregation/teaming in Win 10. The "team/link" tab is missing under the card configuration settings.I attempted to add this port as a team with a newer I219V Intel ethernet port which is built into my Coffee Lake motherboard (Z370 extreme 4). When I attempted to do so a warning popped up saying the functionality was going to be crippled. 2Excellent price point for a dual port server card I've bought several of these adapters over recent months. If you need a dual port gig-e rj-45 card for a nas4free device, centos, ubuntu or windows server, these are a good price point and pretty much every fairly recent os has a driver for them. They work great and (!) every one I've bought so far has the short as well as standard mounts. Yes, a small phillips head screwdriver and it'll go in a height-challenged mobo install :-). Gotta give it five stars. 5Just what the doctor ordered I have a specific need - my system has a single gigabit port and an SSD drive. I do audio recording, and, as the nature of audio recording (lots of writes) and SSD's main weakness being that it can't handle TONS of writes before they eventually burn out, and, sometimes they have catastrophic losses....well, I have a Synology DiskStation, and, it does iSCSI.Well, if you try and pull off standard networking and iSCSI the result is that something has to give. I was having issues with either the files sharing from the diskstation dropping, or the iSCSI drive dropping. I was able to work around it by using the Realtek diagnostic software, which allows one to create virtual network cards, and assigning vlans to the virtual cards/switch, but that's just...fake.This does is just what the doctor ordered. Two gigabit ports. One for standard network, one for iSCSI, and it seems to perform even better than the Realtek NIC. So, at least with this system, I've disabled the realtek NIC.I have an identical system that I use as a home-server, and, when I need to, I shift both of those systems into a 2node cluster. Previously, I did it with the realtek diagnostic driver creating a heartbeat, live migration, iscsi, and data networks all to create a hyper-v cluster - it'll be interesting when I need to do this again to see how it goes as I could omit the live-migration network...Anyway...works great. 5Great NIC for ESXi hosts... read on if you want some entertainment. This is the network adapter that my VMware ESXi host uses and has always worked flawlessly... until disaster struck. The disaster was not caused by the card... it was me. I was replacing a fan in the case and I dropped the fan. Big deal right? Well, it just happened to hit just in the right place and it sheered off that little component above the heat-sink on my original adapter. How on Earth did it hit so perfectly? I have no idea but it did and I was out of action. >.5Great for ESXi I also built an ESXi-5 based server. A successful ESXi server just about requires Intel NICs (Network Interface Card), otherwise you're likely to be jumping through all sorts of esoteric ESXi installation hoops, which is not my cup of tea. My motherboard (an Intel BOXDG43GT LGA) has an embedded Intel NIC and I needed a couple more network ports. This dual-port NIC is cost-effective, and ESXi recognized it immediately and transparently. I didn't have to do anything except plug the card in and turn the machine back on, yielding a total of three NIC ports instead of just the one.In my opinion, Intel NICs are the best NICs on the market, being robust, fast, reliable, and they can handle heavy loads and large file-transfers (> 4GB) without getting stuck/hung; something that many other brands have trouble with. If you don't have an Intel NIC, try it yourself - move a 10GB file across your LAN and see if it doesn't hang or greatly slow-down. If you have another brand of NIC, you may be disappointed by the results. For this reason alone, I highly recommend Intel NICs, whether it's this particular card, or some other NIC by Intel. In fact, when I buy motherboards, I always try to find one where the embedded NIC is by Intel, regardless of ESXi or not. 5It doesn't just work, it works great After setting up a pfSense machine with a couple of old Intel PCI cards (plus the onboard NIC) I had speed and interface error issues. pfSense was showing thousands of WAN interface errors and I was getting way below my cable modem speed of 1 gigabit downloads. This card totally fixed those issues.... and it wasn't even that expensive, and Amazon was able to deliver early the next morning when I ordered late at night the previous day (with free same day delivery).So... I'm totally satisfied... great card for pfSense machines. 5
