    Great upgrade for my Dell XPS 17!My Dell XPS 17 (Model L1702X) was having problems with it's built-in Intel 6230N wireless card, so I finally decided to replace it. After studying on new cards i wanted to get a card that could use the full potential of my new Router (NETGEAR Wireless Router - AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit (R6300) - Manufacturer Refurbished. Mine was purchased from Mobile Computing Solutions and shows up as the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. It connects at 866.7 Mbps to my netgear R6300 version 1 router using the Wireless AC standard which is amazingly fast, it's almost like connecting with a cable.Installation:I downloaded the latest windows 7 drivers previously. You need to first download the Bluetooth drivers which for windows 7 64bit is BT_3.1.1311_s64. Then I had to find the windows drivers. I used the drivers only which is Wireless_16.6.0_Ds64. There is also a newer Wireless_16.7.0_Ds64 that is out as well.I looked up dissassembly instructions online for my Dell XPS 17 Laptop (L1702X). I took apart my case and removed my Wireless card, which had two wires connected but three available (one was wrapped and not used). It replaced an Intel 6230N. I then put in the new card and used the previous screw to screw it in. The antenna wires were popped back on the same sides. I then put my laptop back together which was hard since I had to remove the keyboard and several small screws from throughout the system.I then booted the laptop and installed the bluetooth drivers and network drivers again. I then connected to my wireless network using the new card.Troubleshooting: I was only connecting at 54Mbps at first and I was having connection issues. Here is how I fixed it...For those with wireless-n and wireless-ac routers you may have to troubleshoot your windows settings if you have "upgraded" your card. In the control panel, go to the Device manager, go to network section, and double-click on the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. Now clicked on Advance. Under Ad-hoc choose WMM Enabled, under HT mode choose VHT, under preferred band choose 5.2ghz, under transmit power choose 5 highest, and under wireless mode choose 6: 802.11 a/b/g. Press okay to save changes.Inside your router go to the QOS section (in my netgear router it can be found in advanced>Setup>QOS Setup). Make sure WMM is enabled. Save changes.Another thought is to use a program like DNS Bench to find the best DNS server for you. I added my provider's DNS to the generated list and it turned out that Charter's DNS (one of the two provided) was the fastest and a level 3 dns server was second fastest for me. I added both as static dns server's to my router.Final Thoughts:I love this wireless card. You'll have to ignore the Windows 7 bug that claims you are connecting to a Wireless N network and the driver bug that states you only connect to a/b/g networks. The one device bug right now is that your router needs WMM enabled. This does not make sense since my wireless AC usb adapters such as the Edimax AC adapter, did not have this problem. Overall the Intel 7260 connects faster than the Edimax EW-7811UTC AC600 Dual-Band USB Adapter, Mini Size Easy to Carry, Supports Both 11AC ( 5GHz Band ) and 11n ( 2.4GHz Band ) Wi-Fi Connectivity, Upgrades your PC / Laptop for Exceeding Streaming and Faster Download. It actually is twice as fast since its 866.7 Mbps compared to 430Mbps , not to mention it fits inside my laptop so I can't break it. Overall if you don't mind opening your laptop this is a great deal for Wireless AC router owners!If this review was helpful then please click the button! Thanks!5Bluetooth Headset Issues might be easy fixI had the same problems attaching the antennae pins as others, wish there was a better solution, but the compact nature of the card and its mounting area forces them I guess (once upon a time the only people that even Saw them were constructing your laptop, so no one cared how hard it was to mount the antenna pins).The wifi performance for me has been outstanding, but this is also my first AC unit, so the improvement was expected. I do not experience any dropouts and That was my primary reason for buying This card, as well as offering Bluetooth in a neat package for my NUC 5x.On to the Bluetooth, whenever it goes out of range, and re-establishes, my HX550 headset would not produce sound any longer, though it was still working fine with my Samsung Note2, also consistently connected. If you go to the (Win7) toolbar, click open 'hidden icons' and dbl-clik the Bluetooth Devices icon, you -should- see your headset there in the window that opens (I am presuming you have already paired it and that it Has worked, but stopped working because of sleep or distance-disconnect).dbl-clik on your headset's icon and you will get a new window showing "Play Music" with a green check mark, meaning that Your AC 7260 thinks that your headset is an iPod. This needs to be 'disconnect' and after waiting a moment, clik/choose "Listen to Music". I usually make sure that there is Nothing playing when I do this, but it has performed ok when something Was playing.Until Intel allows us to choose a 'default action' for our bluetooth headsets, you will need to do this every time, but you get used to it. I tried to tell Intel of the fix, but their login server didn't like me..Still highly recommended card, but No way of knowing if it'll play nice with your headset until you try.Hope this helps someone, I know I was ready to return the card or the headset and found No answers out in google-land (but I -am- search-challenged, lol)4Works w/Windows 8.1, Connects @ 650Mbps w/Netgear R6300, Works w/Dell XPS15I've had problems with the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 that shipped in my Dell XPS15 (L502X running Win8 64 Pro) from day one. I would see pings timing out and WLAN disconnects with many combinations of Dell/Intel drivers. The Dell fixes would temporarily resolve the issue, but it always came back. After the MS patches of Aug/Sept 2013 the problem became intolerable. I saw the issue across 3 separate Wireless routers and on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. While troubleshooting I ended up upgrading my wireless router to a Netgear R6300 and thought I'd try an AC compatible WLAN card. After installing the Intel Network 7260 HMWG WiFi card and running the latest Intel 16.1.5 driver, I'm connecting at 650 Mbps and I've yet to see a single timeout or disconnect (knock on wood). Performance is noticeably improved. I'll update this post if I end up seeing any issues with the 7260, but so far I'm very pleased.EDIT 9/28/13 - After several weeks of use, I've had one problem with the 7260 WLAN card losing connection after hibernating. No other issues. I'm very pleased with the card.Edit 10/24/13 - My laptop seems to have a shorter battery life with this card. It also seems to be working fine with Windows 8.1 using driver version 16.5.3. I'm still very pleased with the card5Works like magic with an AC router!Installed in my Dell Latitude E6500, got drivers from Intel over the wire connection and installed both WiFi and Bluetooth. No BIOS issues at all. After the driver update, I got 866.7 Mbps connection on 5GHz with the AC connection from my Asus RT-AC66U in the same room and 390 Mbps up one floor and at the other end of the house. Can't beat that without moving the AP...Bluetooth connected to my Plantronics 903+ without a hitch and everything works as it should.Just be sure to go to Intel and get the latest drivers for both the wireless and the bluetooth.One month update - card works flawlessly for me. No drops, no disconnects, no issues of any kind. Worked on the road with G and N connections at Starbucks, hotels and airports without ever giving me any problems. Bluetooth does have separate drivers on the Intel website, and once installed, my BT headset works perfectly with Skype and WebEx. Best purchase in a long time!5I know there are a lot of issues with finding the right card for Sony Laptops and wanted to provide this information to let it bInstalled this in my Sony VAIO SVT Series laptop running Windows 10 Home. I downloaded the Drivers from Intel prior to installing the card. Once the car was installed, I installed the following:Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 10Version: 19.50.1 (Latest) Date: 3/30/2017andIntel Wireless Bluetooth Software for Windows 10Version: 19.50.1 (Latest) Date: 3/28/2017Restarted the computer and everything just.....worked.I know there are a lot of issues with finding the right card for Sony Laptops and wanted to provide this information to let it be known that this is a tested and validated good card for the system mentioned above.5Sweet speed, but drops the connection sometimesAfter using this card for 3 months I could tell you this:Pros:--Constant speed of 866.7 Mbps--Bluetooth works okCons:--The connection will drop randomly (I'd say every 10 days) and only restored by disabling/enabling the card.A ton of people are having a problem with the speed dropping to 13 Mbps or less, but I've never encountered such annoyance.Before buying this card try to find out if your BIOS has a software whitelist. If so, you'll have to mod the BIOS (if the mod exists for yours in particular) or cover the pin # 20 (google "pin number 20") on the card. The second option will most likely make the card functional, but you won't be able to turn the WiFi on and off through the button on the laptop, only disable it and enable it using Device Manager. Also, after turning on the laptop from sleep, the card will appear disabled (you'll have to manually enable it with Device Manager).All that said, this WiFi/Bluetooth adapter took me to the heavens regarding connectivity speed with my home network. I have two big HDDs full of HD movies hooked to my AC router and a media server on my laptop, so I need as much bandwith as I could get. The router is located at about 15 feet from the laptop with no obstables in between, what gives me 866.7 Mbps steadily (on the 5.0 GHz). For some stupid reason, Windows will connect to any band if you have the same network profile for both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz. When it picks the 2.4 band you won't get the 866.7 Mbps, what is apparently the real maximum speed of this card (not the advertised 867 Mbps). To avoid this, I set different SSIDs for each band and connected the laptop to the 5.0 GHz.Once you are ready to install the card (and before taking out the old one, of course) download the drivers from Intel, uninstall the old drivers and perform a system cleaning. Remember to cover the pin # 20 with a thin band of tape if needed.4Pretty close but not 100% compatible with Kubuntu 14.10 on an Acer AS5560-Sb613 LaptopPerhaps this should be a "5" ratings, but the stars say "I like it" and "I Love it" .The card arrived as promised and it fit into my wife's Acer AS5560-Sb613. The system identified the card but I could not get the wifi enabled. After much reading, trial and error I found taping PIN 20 allowed the card to be used in the Acer 5560. However, I tried everything I could think of and every suggestion I read, including taping PIN 51 but have not found a way to make the Acer laptop even see the bluetooth capabilities, let alone use it. I am not complaining, this card seems about twice as fast as the original wifi card using the "N" (5G) with our RTN66U router. I have not decided if I want an rt-ac68U or an rt-ac68P router, therefore I am not sure if the AC is working..There may be other cards that work better with linux but I could not find anything on upgrading an Acer AS5560-Sb613 but knew Intel had limited support for Linux users so gave it a try. I am happy with the results so far, knowing that taping pin 20 works. Besides, usb bluetooth adapters are pretty cheap if I can not get that working..Linux users:I am using iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode from Intel on an up to date kubuntu 14.10 system,once downloaded and extracted, Installation of the firmware was sudo cp iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode /lib/firmware (reboot)Installing backports and other suggestions made no difference - but for the .Acer AS5560-Sb613 LaptopI needed to tape PIN 20 on the card (google Intel 7260 Pin 20 or Intel 7260 PIN 51 for pictures)If I get bluetooth working I will post an update4Quick and simple upgrade.Purchased this to upgrade the wireless on my AIO HP which did come with older Wifi adapter. Was a 5 minute upgrade that was simple to implement and gave life to a AIO HP that had recently been upgraded to Win10, and worth the investment. The card works perfect in another laptop and also in my Foxconn workstation. It rarely drops ANY signals unless your router is down, or your Bluetooth item gets low on battery. Make sure your computer has the Mini PCI slot before you purchase, as most of the newer computers have the AC card slots, which are much smaller. You can download the drivers from Intel on their SUPPORT web-site.5... in my older HP Pavilion dv7 and it works great..I installed this card in my older HP Pavilion dv7 and it works great............. but only after installing a modified Bios to my laptop! Thanks to this wireless adapter this will be the last HP computer that I own... I bought this to upgrade my laptop to be able to connect to a Dual Band ac network. What I didn't know was that HP had put a list approved wireless cards in the Bios, which the computer checks every time the computer boots up. If the computer recognizes a card that isn't on the list it will stop booting and tell you to remove it. There are no updates to the list to account for new technology, so without a modified Bios (one with no list) there would have been no way for me to use this card.5AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUEDo not waste your time with this absolute piece of garbage. I am a Systems Engineer and have worked in technology for 20 years, this is one of the worst components I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I bought it mid-2014 for my secondary laptop; installation was no problem, and it seemed to work. However I have been plagued with the terrible driver issues that have dogged this card. You can easily find 30 page threads dedicated to frustrated consumers on Intel's forums, all complaining about variations on the same theme, this card disconnects/goes into limited mode, and the only fix is to disable and re-enable, or restart the PC. I have tried countless different driver versions with varying success, but ultimately this card has not functioned well the entire year I've had it installed. I actually wrote a batch file so that I could more quickly disable and enable the adapter, as I have to do it every single time I work on this PC. I am finally (finally!) at the point where I will write it off as a loss, and order a Broadcom chip and possibly the semi-recently revised version of the 7260, and see how the performance is, but if the revised Intel adapter shows a hint of this edition's issues I will send it back in a heartbeat. Severely disappointed in Intel in how they've handled this epic failure.1
