Customer Reviews

Nice and no holesNice little 6x2 double sided (for the price, I assume it's artificial diamond.) stone. It's constructed of two metal continuous grit, plates bound together with a plastic spacer. I sharpened a few knifes on it, 440c + D2, cuts faster than aluminum oxide and it didn't show any damage...so, like my other diamond stones, if used correctly it should last forever.(Rub some chalk into it before using it on soft metals. Wash in soap, scrub with fine stainless steel wire brush, rinse, dry.)5I use for flattening expensive stones.I bought this little guy as a way to easily, and cheaply, flatten water stones. Does a great job! The only problem is I could not readily tell which side was which grit. After using a bit on both sides I think I can tell now but still a bit unsure. Can't complain for the price though!5Huge bang for buckThis item at under 8 bones is a crazy deal. I am using just this one stone (plate, whatever) to keep working edges on all my pocket and kitchen knives. Honestly I AM considering getting a double sided corundum stone in high grits to try to take them to the next level - like arm hair shaving level - but with only this stone I can get and keep my edges cutting paper nicely.FYI it doesn't have the quality control of a DMT nor should that be expected at this price point. If it didn't have any faults that would really be something, but as it is mine came with a hard to notice crack in the diamond plate on one side but since it is bonded to the inner plate it doesn't matter in the least...and also there is a little raised burr on one side that would be more of a problem as it does interfere with a smooth blade stroke, but it's about a half inch from the end and I am able to avoid it. I'm sure there's a way I could chisel it off without wrecking the surface but like I said I'm able to avoid hitting it and it's on the coarse side also which doesn't get as much use so that's a plus.I really recommend this item. What you get is a lot for what you pay. Even if you just want to have diamond on hand for when you need to remove a lot of metal, no matter how infrequent that might be, it's worth it.5Sharpen anything with it and also level guitar fretsI have really used this thing a lot. I've sharpened jointer blades with a jig I made. I've thinned washers to make shim washers for my jointer tables. I've sharpened lathe tools with it. Just wash it off with soapy water and wipe it dry. This thing appears to be indestructible when it comes to sharpening things with it. My only complaint is that finer grades are not available in this style as far as I can tell.I've also found this device is good for leveling guitar frets.5Works fineHard to be too critical of something this inexpensive that does the job. Some reviewers thought it might flex or bend under use. I 3D printed a cradle for it to fit into which gives it more rigidity in use and contains oil that gets pushed over the side. It also helps hold it in place while in use. Sharpened 6 or 7 slightly neglected chisels over the last couple days and it did a great job of removing a lot of material fairly quickly. No idea how long it will hold up, but again for this price I'm certain I'll get my money's worth out of it. I actually bought 2.5like me, you use them daily)I saw these while searching Amazon for DMT and Eze-Lap stones to replace some DMT stones I'd worn out (yes, eventually the diamond abrasives do dislodge to the point of needing to be replaced if, like me, you use them daily). At this price I ordered two in addition to an Eze-Lap.Let me start by saying that this stone is made of two thin metal base layers epoxied to either side of a polymer block in a manner similar to the abrasive layer on DMT's "interrupted surface" stones. The plates are very well and evenly attached on both sides of both stones giving a seamless feel to the stones. Both are also very flat and feel identical to DMT or Eze-Lap's 6x2 continuous diamond plates. So far these stones have far exceeded my expectations and I would not have purchased the Eze-Lap stone if I'd have known these stones were this good... I highly recommend these stones without reservation.5worksAs with other reviewers a problem encountered was the plates coming off the plastic between them. That's ok. Work just fine separated. Have one I've had about 5 years and still hones well all though the coarse plate is separated from plastic backing plate. Could glue it back on but stiff enough alone. Works great on tools. This has the grinds that work well for removing metal and forming a smooth edge .5Excelent, specially for the priceThe first reviewer has a very good description of the product. It's not one piece of metal with two sides (which is what I thought I was buying). In fact if I had read the description (two metal plates joined together with some sort of solid material) but I'm so glad I did. Because it is actually better this way if you want some weight to it when you are sharpening stuff. Very solid, and sharpens knifes really well. When you compared with the $30 credit card size one...there is no contest, much better value for money here.5Grit coarseness not marked & poor quality finish on fine grit side-very roughThe coarse finish side will definitely remove metal fast and so will the fine grit side. It feels very rough and also removes lots of metal fast (too fast). OK for rough shaping but not much good for fine finish work. Probably a good use as a field/bush tool but NOT one to use for high quality carving knives, chisels, etc. Maybe ok value for price if it holds up.Also would be helpful to permanently mark grit on both sides because who will remember in the future?2Be aware that this is not flat, nor is it rigid. Mine has a visible bow, and it's flexible enough to bow the other wayThis is more like diamond sandpaper than a "stone." That is, it's not AS flexible as sandpaper, but similar to sandpaper you are not ever going to be able to FLATTEN with it, unless you back it with something else that holds it flat. That said, this is great for what it is. I had never used diamond stones before; I didn't want to spend $50 * 2 on the "good" diamond stones, so I thought I'd gamble with this. I do not regret it. I was actually shocked with how quickly this cuts -- it's more comparable to the belt sander than any other stone I've used, even the coarsest. In terms of real time spent on the task it is probably just as fast as the belt sander, yet with superior control / less chance of error. So far I've used this to grind out the nicks in a couple knives and to regrind the tip that broke off a knife. I also used it to grind some chisels that were out of square, and to flatten the backs of chisels. These are operations that require removing a lot of metal, and they were accomplished QUICKLY. Great stuff.Initially the scratch pattern left by these stones was pretty intense, but they've gotten much finer very rapidly. That may be considered a flaw or not. In any case I was expecting it, as this is what everyone says about every diamond stone. After "breaking in" the stone, the "fine" side leaves a surface that is pretty decent and a cutting edge that would be acceptable for some purposes. Further honing with even finer stones would be better though and that's what I'm doing (using a water stone).EDIT: It's been a year, and one of the metal plates with the embedded diamonds has completely separated from the plastic interior. The glue failed, I guess as a result of exposure to water. I'm actually still using it though -- or rather, using _them_. For $7.19 (the price a year ago), I can't really complain, but I'm knocking off a star.3Works great, my only issue is finding a way to ... Works great, my only issue is finding a way to hold it down/keep it still so I can use two hands on the knife. I'm sure some kind of neoprene or rubber matt would work fine, or maybe just a piece of wood with some brass tacks.. Anyways despite the struggle to keep it still I got all my kitchen knives to a better than factory edge, you really can't ask for more at this price range.. 5
