Customer Reviews

Great product except have seen alot of non-performance right out ...Use this product for alarm tones. Great product except have seen alot of non-performance right out of the box with this unit 3Excellent product. Ignore the bad reviews!Ignore the negative feedback from buyers who didn't know what this was for or how it's wired. This is a standard 12-volt alarm siren, just like the Wave 2 model, and has inputs for both steady and warble tone (your choice). No, it's not wireless or Zwave compatible. This a regular, hardwired piezo siren.I purchased one for my First Alert (vista-20P clone) system to replace my standard Wave-2 and I must say, it's just as loud and ear piercing and still makes the siren tone that the Wave-2 makes (most piezo sirens just make a screeching tone). The difference is, your standard driver and speaker type alarm sirens like the 747s and the Wave-2s are power-thirsty and draw usually between 400 and 600 mA (1/2 an amp, on average). For an alarm system, that's a lot of current to draw. If you need more than two sirens, you may be looking at adding extra power to support that. If the AC power is out, that's a lot of current to draw out of the battery and shorten its backup time. This is a piezo siren that draws about 120 mA, so it's about 1/3 to 1/4 the current consumption, meaning you can use multiple of these before you get near your current limitation. This is also a little skinnier than the Wave-2 since it doesn't have a speaker cone in it. I fired this up and it still blows your eardrums in. Even if your system needs one siren, this low-current device is an excellent choice. It makes both the steady tone, and warble tone, depending on how you wire it. Most systems only have one bell output and pulse it for a fire, so you'll choose which tone you want, you won't wire both the steady and warble unless you have an old Moose system or something. Just wire the warble tone and you'll be fine. 5Woks good, priced right.Works great. Installs easy. Isnt super loud as I was hoping but im sure it will wake me if needed 5Go2 Alarm.com systemWorks well and easy installation on go2 alarm system 5Great Security Siren for the price!**Quick note before I begin my review of this product. This is not a z-wave siren, nor does Honeywell claim it to be.**There are a few items you will need in order to use this siren with your security system. Honeywell Wave2PD siren A length of spare thermostat wire (18gauge/4conductor) A precision screw driver with common (flat) tipo Put your Central Station Monitoring account into test (recommended 1 hour).o Duct tape or Aluminum tape to secure siren to Central Air ducts if doing this install. You will need to have put your monitoring into test mode so that you don't have police dispatched when you disconnect panel power as well as during the pre-live siren test. For my wiring, despite white and black being the common colors for the hot and neutral, I chose yellow and red since the Bell and Ground contacts are used on the siren and alarm panel respectively. Yellow for security system and Red for emergency.Initially, I was confused on the wiring connections on the siren electrical contacts since there are three contact points, but only two wires are shown being run on the alarm panel wiring guide and the single YouTube video showing it being operated, but not wired up on a similar Wave2 (non-PD).Eventually, upon closer inspection with my LED flashlight, I discovered that the #1 and #2 electrical contacts are identified as Steady and Warble modes respectively via raised plastic lettering on the inside front flip-up cover of the siren housing. So, what I did was connect the #2 siren contact to the Vista21IP Bell contact, and the siren power to Ground contact on the Vista21IP.After connecting the wires on the panel, I restored power to it, allowed it to boot up completely, armed the system, tripped the front door and allowed the 30 second delay to expire. As expected, the siren could be heard in the living room coming out of the vents, however, as expected, the decibel level was a little low, but I had only connected a single siren on the entire house.I disarmed the alarm and system and went down to check on the dogs who were closest to the siren, and while they were shaken up, they soon recovered and calmed down. After completing the test, I had my monitoring service take my account out of test and finished the first siren install by using 3 strips of aluminum tape to secure the siren firmly to my central air supply ductwork. The reason for this is that the ductwork acts like an echo chamber focusing the siren output in a controlled path, instead of omni-directionally, which means the sound can be heard farther away.See my full review on Google+ for the full install story at:https://plus.google.com/u/0/?tab=wX%23communities/111428331721418630777/stream/327ac6ba-f714-44fb-941d-93df5c580c40 5Not for wireless systemsI have nothing technically to say about the device other than I thought it was zwave compatible and it is not. I returned for refund. Thanks to amazon and the vendor i was able to get my money back. 2Looks good... didn't work with my Vista 10Has 3 wires to connect.... my Vista 10 system siren only has two wires so I had to return mine. Product does look nice but never able to hear what it sounded like. 3Don't buy: generates staticI bought this for use with a Honeywell/Ademco Vista 20P panel. After two months of use, I started getting intermittent static on the speaker. A security guru on a DIY security forum explained, "I used to install Wave2 sirens in lieu of the SD-15W by DSC. I thought the Wave2's looked better and easier to install. However, over time, I found that about 20% of the Wave2's in the field failed as you described. I initially replaced them with identical Wave2's, but gave up and returned to the SD-15W's. I've never had any issues with these."Source: shieldlab.com/forum/index.php/topic,35853.msg162506.html#msg162506 1Five StarsThey work well and were louder than I expected. 5
