Customer Reviews

Failed after a week While it worked, it produced a reasonably good image. The price was certainly right, and its backed by Amazon's return policy. I was disappointed because I purchased it as a temporary replacement for a much more expensive unit that had failed inside of a year, and was told 6 weeks for repair. I've only purchased US models because Hikvision does not cover gray market units under warranty, it turns out that with 3 of 4 failing (one was DOA) that this is a good idea. Hikvision does not service returns from the buyer, you must return it to the seller, so its very important to buy from a authorized seller who will get it replaced or repaired for you. This camera failed in exactly the same way, it started losing the connection slowly but more and more frequently as the days passed. Finally, today, it would not stay connected for more than a minute. I tried repowering it, resetting it, bring it in and using different cables but a few seconds on is all it would do.Having the exact thing happen to two different models in a month has me wondering. I have a third very expensive high end model that continues to work fine.I've asked for a replacement camera, it would be a backup for the two expensive ones in the event they need service again, and I plan to install it at a alternate location. 2No regrets. Rugged. Capable. I'm no expert, but I have five IP cameras, now, and this is the best. It is not the easiest to install, but other cameras don't compare with respect to durability and this brand is well-recognized by third parties. The higher cost is justifiable considering how I am using it. 5Awesome product! Seller answered all of my questions in a timely matter. Purchased 4 ip cameras and verified they are all US version. Product came in original red box. 5Buyer beware Sold as US product. When requesting support for HIK Vision US, I was told this was an unsupported serial number. 1Thumbs up to Hikvision and ISS Inc Just received my camera, as was described in the heading "HIKVISION HD Smart 4 Megapixel PoE Dome IP Outdoor Surveillance Camera, 2.8mm Lens, White (US Version)" and sold by ISS Inc. THIS IS A USA MODEL - I called into Hikvision Tech svc and they confirmed the serial # as an USA model. Now, even more important, this is a full DS-2CD2142FWD-IS camera, with full audio, ie audio in and out (see pictures). Not sure why the seller responded it did not have any audio, but this is a helluva price on a USA model Hikvision camera. This is my 5th Hikvision camera and i love them. It does not have a built-in microphone, so if you want two way comm, you'll have to install a mike as well as a speaker - but you do have the connection plug for 2 way comm, ie a mike and a speaker.I've seen some posts indicating the Hikvision cameras come set to a default IP address that is odd - they do, but it's an easy task to set it to your system's IP using the Hikvision SADP software - this is different from the Hikvision iVMS-4200 that is really a waste, but more about that later - you can set all the config settings from within SADPOne tip that might save some some money - i use Blue Iris management software and it is a whole lot easier to manage the camera ie, the software was easier to learn, and it was much easier to direct the video storage to a 1TB SSD I installed in my computer. Of the first four Hikvision 4 MP cameras I've put in, running them at full resolution (2688 x 1520), 20 FPS and 1526kbs bit rate, I'm seeing about 10.5 GB / day of storage, which means i get almost 19 days storage from the 1TB SSD (actual useable storage is 931 GB).But the money saving tip - i used a Trendnet 8 port PoE switch (approx $125) to run the ethernet cables to and then one cable to the computer. I don't really know what a NVR or DVR would do for me that the switch doesn't - the Trendnet switch runs 10 watts current and my computer, when the display goes to sleep (but the computer stays on) runs 10-11 watts recording video - for the 10 watt savings i'd see if i ran a NVR, it's not worth the expense. And in case you're wondering, that 20-21 watts doesn't allow for each camera running 5-7 watts, but they'd run that with a NVR as well.Another reason for the Blue Iris video management software - sensitivity on motion detection was much much more incremental in adjustability, while the Hikvision's iVMS-4200 software wasn't, plus the blue iris gave me tighter control on setting zones - my ft door camera gets a small glimpse of the street, and with the iVMS-4200 software, no matter how far back i set the motion detection zone from the street, i'd get tons of alerts from the iVMS-4200 software. With BI, i drew the zone boundary 4 feet from the edge of the street, and do not get any false alerts from BI. I still remember the first day i ran the iVMS-4200 i woke up to find 54 alerts on my smartphone from cars going by.The BI software also gives me an option i find neat - it lets me set an alarm that sounds thru the computer's speakers - while i was typing this, amazon dropped a package at the door without ringing our bell. Sorry if i sound like a BI salesman, but it just completes the package for this camera. The video from this camera is what you'd expect from 2688 x 1520 - it's spectacular!!. Now to find a small discreet microphone to connect. The later models like my 2CD2542FWD-IS mini-domes have a built-in mike that actually picks up the mailman opening the mailbox door some 110 feet from the camera. In one of the pictures, you'll notice there are two green plug connectors - one is for audio in & audio out, the other for alarm in & alarm out.And btw, i've had to call Hikvision tech support (USA) 3 times to help me with the setup - tech support was super patient with me and for the record, i'm Ellen's husband - i use her acct. I'm a 69 yr old fred flintstone of computers, so if i can set one of these cameras up, anyone can 5Excellent value Replacing my old PTZ cams in favor of fixed but wide (106 degrees) view. I am amazed at the functionality of this camara. I'll not use the many configuration settings available as I use Blue Iris as my management software, but the options are there. I WILL use and appreciate the clarity of the image. Distortion is minimal -- I happen to have a flag pole near the center of the image area and it bows only slightly as a result of the 2.8 lens -- and the resolution is top notch. 5Two Stars BEWARE, the unit I received is not a US version. It is an English version, but according to Hikvision the S/N on the unit is not a US version. It did allow me to upgrade to the latest firmware from the US site (5.5.0) 1
