Customer Reviews

Very Nice Nice heavy grain leather. Stitching is nice and uniform. Leather is a bit stiff but softens once some leather conditioner is applied. The only complaint is that the tag is stapled to the leather using 2 staples. Once the staples are removed there is 4 small holes on the back. This is the only reason it didn't get 5 stars. I am sure that this minor imperfection will be less noticeable over time.If you have a standard single bit axe at about 4.5 lbs., buy it, you won't regret it. 4Fit's Harbor Freight 4.5 LB Axe Very Well I bought this to cover the blade of the axe I keep in my trail rig. I wanted to keep the blade sharp, but not have to worry about accidentally cutting myself, others or my gear that I store with it.Based on the dimensions I found in other reviews, I suspected this would fit my axe (4.5 lb Central Forge Hickory Axe / Harbor Freight Part 98096). I wanted to follow up on that and confirm for anyone else considering this match that it does indeed fit and work well.I was initially concerned about the stated "4-6 week shipping time", but was VERY happy that they got it to me in less than a week. I was able to get the axe sharpened up and bring it (safely) along on a camping trip a couple weeks ago. My guess is that they state that lead time in case they don't have them in stock and need to make a batch.I agree with the previous reviewer that I was disappointed with the two sets of staple holes in the back side of the sheath (once I took the cardboard label off). I didn't think they would be as noticeable as they are, and am surprised at how much they stand out. Such a beautiful piece of crafted leather, marred by a poor choice of product labeling. Minus one star in hopes the maker will find another way to attach their name.I'm debating oiling the leather for better weather-ability. The leather looks so good right now, I almost hate to do anything to it and I'd hate to see discoloration around the metal rivets and fasteners. In all likelihood, the axe will be getting mounted to the side of my expedition roof rack (along with a shovel), to make more space in the back for my dogs. I'm guessing oiling / sealing the leather would be a wiser choice than leaving it to the elements. I'll try to update my review if / when that happens. 4Fit COLD STEEL Trail Boss axe It can fit my COLD STEEL Trail Boss axe 5Great product but why did they........? I was very pleased with overall quality and thickness of the leather, totally blemish-free. The cover will easily fit. 5 x 7 axe head. The riveting is flawless and beautifully done. So why not 5-Stars? For some reason they found it necessary to affix the product ID tag with two metal staples that poke holes in the largest expanse of beautiful leather. Maybe the manufacturer has less respect for the quality than the customers. It s a small thing granted and otherwise it s a really beautiful sheath, well worth the price. 4Very good OLD SCHOOL QUALITY! I have a 3 1/2 inch single bit Michigan style axe from the 1960's with no sheath. When this arrived I was simply amazed at the thickness and quality of the leather. The snaps and rivets are all heavy duty and tight. My axe fit in it well but I think it would accommodate a little larger axe as well. Possibly a 4 inch Michigan or Hudson style. Thank you Heritage Leather for making a high quality sheath at an affordable price and Made in U.S.A. as well. This piece is well designed, beautifully crafted, has perfect stitching and riveting, the leather is thick, consistent and without blemish, and the snaps are heavy duty. After all of that some idiot put two staples through the leather to affix a tag.Yes, they are still doing it!One other complaint. On the inside back there are unfinished rivets that will scratch the back of your axe. I cut a piece of polypropylene to cover these and keep them from scratching the surface. A sewn in leather lining there would have been nice or at least a smooth double headed rivet. 3High quality leather sheath, but...one complaint A very nice sheath! Good leather. Strong rivits. Fits my 3.5 lb. axe head well. Thick leather. Stiff when new, of course, but will get more pliable over time. I haven't oiled it yet but will.My only complaint and the reason I am giving this product 4 stars instead of 5: The tag is attached by two staples, resulting in four little holes, right through the nice leather. What a shame, to deface such a nice piece of leather with the staple holes, when the tag could have been attached to the sheath with a plastic tie. Knowing this, I would still purchase the sheath, but they really should get rid of the staple holes. 4Excellent product This is an extremely well made ax cover, easily worth the cost. I have a 25 year old single bit hardware store purchased ax and this cover fits it perfectly. The leather isn't stiff or rigid as can be the case with some other new leather products. The snaps are quality and positively engage to secure the cover flap. Made in the U.S.A. and outstanding quality, what more can you ask for. 5a very nice and heavy duty cover made from top quality leather ... In summary, a very nice and heavy duty cover made from top quality leather that could use some oiling with neatsfoot oil, mink oil or sno seal to give it some flexibility, bring out the character of the grain and preserve the leather. The maximum size of the axe that this cover will fit is 5-1/4" bit, 7-3/4" length and 1-3/4" thick. Any larger and the axe either won't fit in the cover.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This cover is made from fully tanned top grain cowhide that is smooth on the outside and rough on the inside. The two pieces of the cover are very nicely stitched and riveted at the bit end and riveted at the butt. The rivets are evenly spaced all around and shows no sign of rust unlike the rivets on some other leather covers I have ordered. There are double snaps at the top to close the cover. All materials and hardware appear to be top quality. My axe is 5 at the bit, 7-3/4 from butt to middle of the bit, and 1-3/16 thick. The axe fits in the cover with a snug fit in length and loose fit in width. The cover snaps close easily as there is ample length in the flap. The critical dimension seems to be the length. Longer than 7-3/4" will either be a snug fit or not fit at all. A bit length of up to 5-1/4 and a thickness of up to 1-3/4 looks like it would fit.Overall, a very high quality product and an excellent value. 5Good quality. Be careful on sizing. This thing is BIG. This axe sheath was way too big for my camping axe. Since the item description does not give internal dimension, I took a chance. I lost. I have to send it back. In the interest of helping others, these are the approximate INTERNAL dimensions, (i.e. the size axe it will fit properly). The cutting edge 5.25", back of axe 3.75", back to cutting edge 7.25", axe head thickness 1.25". 4
