Customer Reviews

They worked great. The line is tough I purchased a few of these (in various sizes) and I used them on a dive. I used the small one to hold my dive slate and the large one to hold my flashlight. They worked great. The line is tough, the retractor worked for the weight adertised, and it seems very well made. Even my spouse was impressed with it and wants to buy some. The only advice I have is that the small gear retractor has a small clip, so if you are attaching it to a BCD it better be to a thinner ring or you will need to buy the bigger gear keeper. 5Heavy duty and well madeSince it is for a backup dive light, the most important quality of snug and well made is amply met. Considering the minimal weight of backup light, the pull is stronger than it needs, and it could be a foot longer, but that's nitpicking. As a general impression, I'd say well done!5It lasted 120 divesI bought this to keep my light secondary dive computer streamlined.Pros: The quick release was easy to use and made it easy to bring my secondary dive computer back to my room after the dives. I always left the Gear Keeper on the BCD. Most of my dives were boat dives, so I did a lot of jumps and it never came off. It was easy to pull the secondary computer, read and release, keeping it streamlined. You can buy several types of quick release connectors and just leave them attached to each equipment. My flashlight, secondary dive computer and underwater camera case all have their own quick connector, which makes it easy to use the retractors.Cons: I was expecting it to last more than 120 dives, but I don't have another product to compare. The cable was made of some sort of steel and it rusted on several places, but it did not compromise its strength. I tried to use WD-40 to make it more smooth, but it broke after I fully extended it 4x. R.I.P. It did not work well with my big flashlight, it was too heavy for it to retract.Other thoughts: I already ordered the replacement, but this time I bought the one that is a little bit stronger, the RT4-5913.4Way too strong for my purposes. As intended. I knew this thing was robust but you can almost get a workout on the tension if you use it as just an I'D tether.Really awesome. Overkill. But it's why I picked it. 5Stronger than you think.I bought these for our dive slates after researching tensions vs weights. They are certainly way strong for slates but I wanted something strong enough that they could be used for other things. They retract with authority holding my Bigblue dive light and will keep my console tucked in close as well. They seem like they are built well and don't weigh too much. I plan on buying more.5Lasted over 5 years! Love it!Using the gear keeper for my company keys is much better than the cheap retractable leashes you may find at a local office store. This is actually the second one I bought. The first one lasted me over 5 years, so I had to get another one. In all the years, it never lost tension. My first one only broke due to age, and lots of user abuse. (I use to swing wrenches with it. I did replace the clip with the smaller one that was on the older model, but the smaller clip can be found on amazon too.5Spend a couple $$ extra and buy RT4-5913 insteadI bought this Gearkeeper RT4-5912 and also the RT4-5913 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A36SL5C/ They are about the same size but the RT4-5913 can hold up to 24 ounces where this one can only hold 9 ounces. I put my mid-sized 1 pound dive light on this Gearkeeper and it started dangling by 1.5 inches. I looked at the cords. The RT4-5913 has a metal leash and this one has a leash that looks more rope-like. The metal one is clearly stronger and doesn't have as much give. Buy the RT4-5913 which is advertised for scuba consoles but I figured flashlights should be heavier than consoles. This product is only good for a 1,000 lumen or less stick light.See photo.3These are great for keeping items closeHolds my red flashlight in easy reach so I can quickly use it in the dark while stargazing. Make sure you know the weight of the item you want to hang as these are sold rated for MANY different draw weights. The first time I messed up and got one with too high a draw wt. It made it hard to pull the flashlight out and keep it out while in use. I felt like I was fighting the device. I got the smaller draw weight one and now it fells perfect. It is easy to pull out and use but when not in use it is strong enough to keep the light reeled in and not in my way.5Nice to have.Worked great for my Hawaii trip and first night dive. I used it for my light and it was very nice to have my light in the same spot and not have it dangling off my wrist. Well worth it.5Very handy for my diving flash lightIt would be good to hold numer of light weight items for hunting, biking, etc. I liked that it keeps my diving flashlight close to my body and not dangling from my wrist. My flashlight was heavy enough to pull the retractable extension line out a few inches as it hung from it. I did have trouble squeezing the release when attempting to release it from the attachment to my BCD. I used pliers at home a couple of times which loosened it enough so I could use my fingers to detach it but still hard for me. Most people would not likely have a problem but I do not have strong hands like a man and have a double jointed thumbs. The product does what it is supposed to do and is light weight and not cumbersome at all.4Try it you'll like itGood for keeping gear at hands reach on BC5Great little gadget, can be used for more than just SCUBAI use this as a retractable glove retainer. I work in an industrial facility that requires the use of gloves for a lot of tasks. I used to keep my gloves in the back pocket of my coveralls. On occasion I would go to grab my gloves only to find one or both had fallen out, plus they are bulky to sit on. I started using a glove lanyard but nothing to clip it to and it was hard to reach. This item solved my problems. I attach it to my coverall using the pin, then have a alligator clip on the end. My gloves are now always secure and easy to reach. This product also seems quite durable.5Perfect size and I don't have to worry about carrying ... Purchased this to attach our backup flashlight to our dive vest for night diving. Perfect size and I don't have to worry about carrying a bunch of flashlights. Good quality retractor, very pleased with my purchase. 5
