These will work with newer style recessed lighting spring clips, or the older ones with the torsion tabs. 5Easy to Install Once the canisters were in place this light popped in easily. Only improvement would be to have the light lens slightly deeper in the recess to reduce glare when looking at the ceiling. But after installing the lights a few weeks, i realize that i don't really look at the ceiling very often. 4These look great. These look great. Just above the yellow tint of a 2700k or 3000k but not as white or blue as a 4000k or above. Love the rigid lines inside the center circle for a more elegant finish. Great looking light that is easy to install into existing recessed lighting. Lights were installed with a Lutron Caseta Wireless dimmer. Slight buzz from dimmer but dimming range performs well. Love the color of these lights! Work great in a bathroom or kitchen. 5Easy installation. Compact size wasn't easy to find but made the difference for fitting into 5" cans. Takes just a few minutes to install. Light is quite bright, ideal for reading. An added benefit is that it's all in one unit so if you've had drafts from high hats before retrofitting this one piece product will eliminate that. Recommended. 5Good light with minor installation annoyances I replaced 7 old downlights in my kitchen with these, and am happy.Pros:+ They dim well (with the right dimmer, see below).+ Good color quality.+ They are plenty bright - they're rated at 647 lumens, and felt brighter than some "65W equivalent" CFLs that I took out and said 650 lumens on the side; but that might be because they're wider beam angle and I wasn't directly under them.+ Seem to be consistent - I have 7, and there's no noticeable difference in brightness or color at any dimmer setting within each lamp or between lamps.+ Simple install: remove the springs, attach the tension clips (took a pair of pliers to slide them in past the snaps on a few), take out the old bulb, pop out the old trims from the fixtures, screw in the base adapter, snap in the wire connector to the lamp, push it in the fixture can (slight twist to seat), and turn it on. (Proper grounding can be a little annoying depending on your fixture, see below)Cons:- The recessed fixtures I put them in are Lightolier 1104ICR (fairly standard type for a 6" fixture as far as I know), and I can see a sliver of the steel around the LED baffle, maybe 1/8" difference in diameter. I wish these had a 1/4-1/2" larger outer diameter baffle to fully hide the fixture without having to buy the "trim ring" accessories (I'm going to just live with it for now without buying the trims).- The ground wire is shorter than the wires on the E26 (medium base) adapter, and has to connect with a screw, so it completely defeats the point of having a quick snap connection. For my fixtures the steel can is grounded, and I'm using the three tension clips to hold it in, so I'm hoping that's good enough of a ground connection without screwing in the wire directly (plus, no handy ground screw or even hole to add one, and you're really not supposed to modify the fixture).- The spec sheet on the Cooper Lighting website (Halo is a product line of Eaton, who used to be called Cooper Lighting) lists their TAL06P1 AL Series 300W All Load 3-Way & Single Pole Toggle Dimmer as fully compatible. I took them at their word and got one (hey, same company, sounds reasonable, right?), but found that at any dimming level other than full there was a slow pulsing of the brightness (1-3 Hz). The next day I went out to the local big box home improvement store and got one of the Lutron C.L. series dimmers and it works perfectly - the Eaton spec sheet for these lamps says that dimmer only goes up to ~90% max brightness on these, but since it wasn't correct on their own dimmer compatibility, and there's enough light for the room, I'm happy enough.None of these cons are huge, so they add up to one star off. Just a practical note for other interested people, these lights were in stock and a few bucks cheaper than the Amazon price at a nearby big box home improvement store (one of the mega chains, at the other they were more expensive), so look around. The price also varies between light colors. 4
