Customer Reviews

Horrible Quality Control Ordered 6 of these all but one were missing components or damaged. 5 were missing multiple ceiling clips. One was missing the cover to the junction box. One was pancaked. All were bent to some degree but maleable enough to bend back. 1Shipping/Packing Quality The lights are what we needed... and we couldn't find any locally so this was a great option and we got them very quickly, but it seems someone in the packing/shipping quality control area FAILED! 2 of the 5 lights we received were missing the metal cover over the electrical connections. Since we needed to get these installed, my husband made covers to replace the missing ones. If the promise is to ship items for receipt in two days, it should not come at the cost of proper inspection of the product being shipped. As for the product itself the brackets that are in the lights should be adjusted to fit the more common 1/2" sheet rock. Every bracket in all 5 lights had to be adjusted to make them fit properly. 3Great way to light up all hard to access areas Great way to light up all hard to access areas , only need 6.5 inches of space.Only real issue to be aware of is the template is too large, need to cut to the inside of the outline otherwise the fixture goes right through the hole. 3 3/8 hole saw is best then enlarge the hole a bit. 5Great product for LED lighting We used 50 of these in our ceilings during our remodel activity They all worked well and are great to install. 5I loved the price too These worked very well for me. I wanted something air tight that I could use against the insulation in my attic. I loved the price too. 5Great Price But Poor Quality These remodel cans are very reasonably priced, however it is "paper thin". The big box store white Halo remodel cans are much more substantial. I do not trust these cans to work in my remodel so they sit in a box unused. I really wanted these work out, due to the price.Leviton L3R can has significantly better quality with a thicker gauge can - it too works with LED, Halogen, wet / damp area; it's air tight and insullation contact (IC) rated. Cost for just one Leviton can with trim is more than a few of these Halo cans. The Leviton is not perfect, but just good enough. The Leviton has the nearly same type of marginal clip mechanism, but it works a bit better. Halo or Leviton, it's best to get the fixture positioned exactly as needed the first time because second attempts to refasten the fixture will not be as easy to secure.Security of the mounting and housing thickness matter in part because of the weight and leverage on the housing due to the attached junction box and any wiring. Often, these lights will have one NM-B in and one out, which adds to the weight and leverage that the can's lip must support. The hole must be exactly right with a solid fit to the housing. A flimsy housing just doesn't feel trustworty.Bottom line - for me, it's too much work to risk issues with the ceiling lights to go with such thin housings. I went with the Leviton L3R and various trims, which were not fully available from an Amazon seller. A large electric supplier in the Portland area had full stock of trims and fixtures. It is probably worth exploring other lights that have better attachment means. If you are very skilled and willing to fiddle more with it, or if the back side is accessible from an attic space, the cost savings for these cans might work for you. 2Does what it's supposed to, when the parts are there. Amazon customer service sucks A$$ Ordered two, both arrived with junction box plates detached but loose in the shipping box. After further inspection, only enough plates were included to install one light. After the initial call to Amazon customer service, they could not supply the cover plate, but instead offered to send a complete replacement light. Five days after the estimated delivery date had passed, a second call to Amazon customer service and I was told the order had been cancelled. After another 50 minutes on the phone I'm told send both items back and they will send new ones... Well one is already installed so that doesn't work at all. In the end, I had to place another order for two more, wait for those to show up, pull the missing plate from one of them, then set the box right back out for pick up/return. Total waste of time and resources to deal with Amazon... over what is essentially a component of the light that costs less than a buck... or better yet, a piece of tape to hold the plates on during shipping that costs pennies. As for the item itself, it installs like any other retrofit light I've used. it is relatively compact, fits through its own hole, and seals against the ceiling like any of the others. The clips are a little snug and if you haven't used them before I can see how they may frustrate people, but really I'd take tight clips over a can that wants to fall out.In the end, save yourself some time and hassle, go buy them at the local store and avoid dealing with Amazon. 2Not Bad All in all these are not bad. The only real issue is the fact the flange bends easily when you are trying to seat them in the hole. There are a number of retrofit led trims available that are cheaper than the Halo brand which this housing says to use. Just be aware that this housing uses a two lead connector rather than a socket for the light. This makes sense as it is an LED only housing. They don't want anyone trying to put a standard bulb in it. Since it is only IC rated for led that could lead to a fire if improperly used. I am an avid do it yourself error so my installation was always planned for this housing. It's probably one of the few 4 inch IC housings you will be able to find. 4Good fixture with some thoughtful features It's a good fixture with some useful features. This is the 2nd job I've used these in, and there are two little things I like. First, they come with some strain relief clamps built into the junction box so you don't have to keep screw-down ones on hand. Second, they have connectors inside the box to connect these to other lights in the circuit so you don't need wire nuts either. One word if warning: the feet are made to fit 1/2 inch drywall. If yours is thicker, these won't stay stuck and you'll need sheet metal screws to hold the feet down. 5Missing item not packed well loose box Pro installation not a stock itemMissing wiring cover?!!!! cant install today 1
