Excellent option with a few minor flaws. If you're installing recessed lights in your attic or you know you're going to have to deal with low clearance, these are ideal for you.Having used the other Globe products previously, I decided to try these out given that I knew that there were a possibility I'd have one set of joists where I had an HVAC duct. The price of the units is higher than getting the standard 3" cans with LED GU10 bulbs, but the plus is the "ease" of installation and the ultra low clearance.I use "ease" because this is highly relative. The key problem is that the included J-box is tiny. If you have the luxury of installing serially, you'll be fine. However, I had one box where I had to join 3 sets of wires. This was a challenge. I had to remove the included push in connectors and use 4 port push in connectors instead. If you have to join 4 sets of wires....This could be resolved by globe by making the box longer or a bit thicker (not any wider because otherwise, it would not fit through the hole!)Another challenge is that the provided cut-out template is on a folded piece of flimsy paper. I literally ripped the first template trying to unfold the paper. To actually make it useful, you'll have to transfer it to cardboard first or have a compass on hand. It would have been better if they included the template as part of the product packaging (on Globe's other products, the template is on a flap of the box and you punch it out of the perforation). This would save a step and yield more accurate cuts.One final note is that this won't work well for new construction given that you can't hang it on the joist (you'd have to install the j-box and come back, remeasure, and cut out the hole later; your electrician won't like you very much, but your drywall crew will!). It can be done, but will surely be more time consuming for your electrician vs. using new construction cans.Otherwise it's a pretty good product. The trim is made of metal and the J-box is very solid as well. The spring clip is very aggressive and pulls the unit tight against the ceiling. The light is almost as bright as my GU10 LEDs but is obviously far less directional so it's perfect for general purpose room lighting. Be sure that you get the right size for your application; the 3" units are tiny. 4Good Buy I ordered 3 4 packs of these to replace 4" rusty recessed lighting in the house my wife and I bought. I honestly don't think it could have been much easier to install these since I already had wiring existing for my old soffit lighting fixtures. They are easy to install if you do some prep ahead of time off the ladder. You will need to buy the 1/2" threaded cable clamps to put in the junction boxes these have. There is a screw connection in the pigtail between the light fixture and the junction box, making it easier to just install the junction box first and go up a second time to put the light in (if you're 20 feet in the air, this isn't a bad idea).they work well with the Top Greener TFT01-H in-wall digital light timer switch!I am looking forward to our exterior illumination with these lights, they are nice and bright and pop on immediately. 5Quality product and warm light. These worked perfectly under my garage soffit. The separate electric box and snap in connectors made it easy to install. Also the light it gives off is not a harsh led light but very warm. It almost looks 2700k to me than 3000k (which I prefer) 5Good light fixture could use a little improvement. I ordered a variety of different low profile IC rated LED fixtures such as this to test them out for an upcoming project. The light output, dimming levels, CRI and color temperature of this one seems to be accurate. The manufacturer Globe Electric is a name I know and it has been around a while. The others such as NickLED, Getinlight and Cloudy Bay I had never heard of which in itself doesn't mean that they aren't fine but LED fixtures don't always last as long as advertised and I'm more comfortable with a name I know has been around a while. The build quality seems to be decent though it isn't as sturdy feeling in the hand as some of the others I have tried. Since it doesn't get handled everyday that isn't much of an issue as long as it can take the jostling of the install which I think it should.All the 4" lights I have tried are actually different sizes. The 4" is the size of the hole in the ceiling, not the fixture itself. This one measures 5 1/8" across overall while the swiveling part of the fixture is 4" and the frosted plastic lens is 3" across. The flange of the fixture that snugs up against the ceiling has a thin foam gasket to help keep things less drafty though the 1/2" depth of the flange is not as generous as some of the others so use a hole saw to make your holes in the ceiling and not a hand saw or hammer otherwise your 4" hole might become a little too big.Coupled with a Lutron TGCL-153PH dimmer it worked fine with no buzzing or flickering and dimmed down to what looked to be 10% with no problem.I do wish that it would swivel a bit more than it does and the finish on the flange ring and the inner lens ring are two different shades of white, one warm and the other cool. Most people wouldn't notice but I certainly do so for those two items I am docking it a star. 4Nice idea, poor quality control Well, I was really excited because I finally found some 4" baffled LED slim recessed lights. My ceiling has strapping between joists and drywall so the 0.90" thickness as compared to the non baffled flat version measuring 0.50" is not going to be a problem. I like the idea of the lights, but the quality control on the exterior finishing is definitely lacking. Three of the four I ordered have defects... One has missing paint, one appears they tried to cover up a nick with a whiteout pen and the other has a few small nicks and a red dot under the surface of the light. Maybe I should expect more for $25? Hopefully the quality control of the LEDs and transformer isn't as bad as the exterior. I will update after I return these for replacements. 3Excellent product, but... I would've rated 5 stars but I encountered a couple of issues.First, the positive:- Excellent lighting.- Very accurate dimming (others are not smooth and flicker or have erratic lighting while dimming)- Super easy installation. It took longer to cut hole in ceiling dry-wall than to connect. Connecting clips are a major plus!- Build quality.Now the Negative:- Received a demo model. How many hours were they already operated and how many hours do I have remaining on original bulbs?- Packaging was poor. Junction boxes were just banging around inside the box. No packaging material surrounding product. I suspect since it was a demo model the original packaging was missing or thrown out.Overall:- I will purchase again for other rooms, just hope I get a new model off the shelf. 4One of Fixtures Stopped Working in Three Weeks; Nervous about Longevity of Rest I ordered these after appreciating their visual quality in a big box store (metal trim instead of plastic, for example). The lights appeared to be of superior quality.Sadly, after a short three weeks of being installed, one of the lights started flickering and then completely stopped working. Our contractor checked all the connections, etc. This is making me nervous about the lifespan of the other lights in the box. We haven't even yet installed the dimmer switches.Major bummer. Hope I don't have to have the contractor remove all of the lights to return, especially since the light is helping them see the work they are doing. A bit of a mess. . . 2Simplified installation Very neat when installed. Didn't need the swivel feature the light cone dispersion was sufficient. Put eight in the 12x12 kitchen ceiling where four would have managed, to replace two T40 4-foot fluorescents. This allows for super brightness for occasional tasks and also for the potential degradation of brightness with age. Usually keep the dimmer close to low.Installation only requires the supplied boxes to be daisy chained using standard 14-2 residential wire. The box comes with cable and plug to attach the fixture prior to pushing it up into the hole in the ceiling. 5Great! These are super easy to install and wow are they bright. May install a dimmer switch just to tone it down when I am not wanting to be fully awake just before bed. I would definitely buy these again. If you can feed a wire and can cut a 4" hole, then you can install these in a few minutes. The plug in connectors make the electrical connection very easy too, just remember to shut off the electricity before you start. 5Nice lights! I was wary and skeptical when I found these on Amazon, but reluctantly I ordered them to give them a chance. When they arrived, I was amazed at how thin they are. The profile is so low, I was able to mount both of them in my bathroom ceiling where other lights could not be mounted. And that was due to the beams above the ceiling. I also connected them to a dimmer switch. They dim low, but are nice and bright when on full. I'm very pleased with these lights. 5
