Description

The Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot captures and combines key elements from both the top-selling Lightsphere Collapsible and the wildly popular PowerSnoot. The Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot was designed for photographers seeking the control and creative allowances the PowerSnoot has to offer, but with the portability and universal patent-pending grip of the Lightsphere Collapsible. The Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot, similarly to the PowerSnoot, gives photographers maximum efficiency and directional control over strobe lighting when mounted off-camera, allowing one to create cutting edge, “fashion style” special effects. The black finish of the Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot blocks the light spilled out of the sides of the diffuser so instead of filing a room with soft light, the photographer can project the light directly onto the subject with a controlled yet soft burst that is great for hair highlighting, selective lighting of subjects, or highlighting a subject against a busy background. In other words, the Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot allows you to focus light into the areas you want to highlight, and more importantly away from the areas you don’t. Available in two configurations: the Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot alone and the Lightsphere CollapsibleSnoot with the PowerGrid. For those who already own the PowerGrid, it will be fully compatible with the Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot. For those that do not, the PowerGrid is a perfect pair to the Lightsphere Collapsible Snoot, allowing one to further reduce light spillage and increase directional control.

Customer Reviews

Spot onI ordered this after seeing a Gary Fong Youtube video , It is so easy to use and you can achieve what he says 5Well designed and performs wellA little over-priced, but the results are excellent. Compared to some other devices, this snoot attaches firmly to the flash and so that helps justify the extra $$$'s. 4great addition to my Fong collectionHaven't used it yet but based on the video demonstration I'm sure it will be a great addition to all the other nice products I own from Gary Fong. 5Not for the continuous light adapter! When I purchased this unit I wasn't aware that there was a new generation version (the one with the Velcro cinch strap). This model has no strap, only flanges to hold it on the flash. This works pretty well, but I got it to use with the continuous light adapters. When I tried to fit the snoot on this adapter, I thought I was going to break it! The box that it fits over is just too big to fit comfortably. I've ordered a newer unit with the strap, since the LightSphere fit with no problem. I'll use this one on flash units, but I'm not going to try and attach it to the continuous adapter again. Also, I think the price is a bit high considering the production cost. 3Does not match the picture!I was so disappointed when I received this. The base is not as shown in the picture. It actually came with the speed mount base (which I am not a fan of). The worst part is that the speed mount strap is missing so it is unusable. This item has a no return policy so now I have to contact customer service and get a refund. What a waste of time! 1Gary Fong Lightsphere Collapsible Flash Snoot with PowerGridVery useful for quick on the run setups. Can also be used with the color discs for more off camera speed light options. Being collapsible it will save a lot of room in your bag. Durable and well made though a bit pricy. 5You'll always want to have this FONG with you!Below is the review i completed on my site PhotographySILO just in case you haven't seen it there.Pros:LightweightCollapsibleCons:+requires some effort to attach and remove (at least you know it won't fall off)FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I love collapsible. The lightsphere collapsible snoot means smaller form factor during transport and storage The small form factor of the collapsed snoot is a huge feature for strobist that do not want to bring too much lighting modifiers on location. The lightsphere collapsible snoot is made well and seem to provide the same protection to my flash as the lightsphere. Therefore, you will never need to remove the lightsphere collapsible snoot for transport and use unless you need to alternate modifiers.AFTER FIRST USE: As a lightsphere collapsible user, the lightsphere collapsible snoot was an easy product to get accustomed. I followed the same procedure to attach and detach the lightsphere collapsible snoot. The simplicity of the application made it easy to effectively use this lighting modifier as desired. For the first time, I used the Gary Fong lightsphere collapsible snoot at a wedding capacity. The lightsphere collapsible snoots were used for subject edge lights. Since the lightsphere collapsible snoot is made of a black non-transparent plastic, it prevented the light to bleed into the walls which were lit via constant colored event lighting. The lightsphere collapsible snoot did an amazing job preventing the light to bleed on the walls to truly create that spotlight type effect and allow the colored constant lighting your clients spent so much to use remain intact in their images.Since the lightsphere snoot is collapsible, when a broad light is needed all that is required is to collapse the snoot and voila broad light.A FEW OF THE FEATURES I FOUND MOST USEFUL FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: (view a full listing at the manufacturer websiteCollapsibleAbility to direct lightPortableCONCLUSION: As you progress as a photographer, the need to control light becomes more and more prevalent. As you move away from purely a natural light workflow, light modifers become a key piece of gear in your photography arsenal. The Gary Fong lightsphere collapsible snoot surely doesn t disappoint. 4Does not fit the SB910 as advertisedApparently this is not the current generation. It did not fit my Nikon SB910 as promised. It had to be returned. I contacted Gary Fong, the manufacturer, who simply too me I had to buy the newer generation. 1Finally ...... a portable snoot. Like some others have mentioned in reviews below, the picture here doesn't show the new universal attachment - there are little flanges that extend downward to accommodate a velcro strap that is required to secure the Snoot to the flash head; without it, it'll just flop around and is totally useless. Well ... the velcro strap was NOT included in the box that I received.I contacted the good folks at Gary Fong and after sending a few pictures of the box label, they quickly sent me 2 velcro straps. 5Actually better without the gridI was able to use this snoot off camera for some very dramatic low key portraits.Using and positioning a snooted flash and the model is a daunting task that will require a lot of trial and error for people not familiar with low key lighting. But the results are worth it.I found that the grid somewhat hampered my shots, mostly due to the lined shadows it cast on my models. Ouch. Not using the grid not only eliminated the grid's shadows but it also helps more power to come out. 4
