I still love and prefer that model, but it ran out of memory for updates quite awhile ago.Living in ORANGE COUNTY, CA, lane assist & traffic are musts!-Lane assist arrows on the Nuvi were awesome. They are completely missing in the new model. I miss being able to glance at the top left corner & know that I should be in the # 3 or 4 lane out of 7, for example.-Garmin needs to learn to say "middle lanes" and to speak in lane number terms. There are several interchanges where Garmin is just plain wrong because it lacks the appropriate vocabulary. (for example: the 55, the 73, and the 405 interchange instructions are inaccurate, as are the 5 and the 91 interchange instructions)-Sometimes the written instructions differ from the verbal instructions. (for example: the 5 and the 91 oral instructions are incorrect)-The Garmin Nuvi had a walking mode, which was awesome when being a tourist! The Nuvi also had a battery life that was good for hours of walking. Humorous side note: The Nuvi would ask if I wanted to switch to pedestrian mode when traffic was R.E.A.L.L.Y. slooooooooow. I haven't found a pedestrian mode on the new model; even if I found it, the battery would die.-This model has a matte screen. A different model is a shiny screen. One uses the fingernail and the other uses the fingertip for input. The shiny screen model has crisp fonts, but lots of glare. Since glare is an issue when driving, I chose this model with the matte screen.-This new model can be set to warn for schools, curves, speed changes, etc. Although curve warnings can be handy where I live, they are utterly useless in rural Virginia and in New England. School warnings can be handy if you drive during school hours on school days, but I shut off that feature for nights and weekends. It seems to identify most, but not all, K - 12 schools.-I would love a longer cord with a USB end so I can plug that into the duplex car adapter to charge my phone and keep the Garmin going simultaneously.-The new friction mount takes up a lot of dashboard real estate. Although this product came with a friction mount, I bought and use the old style friction mount.-Although the new address search style (street #, street, city) works well for where I live & work, I have lived in places that would be really frustrating by this change. Utah, where addresses are on a grid (550 West 200 North is going to be in EVERY single town!), and the Denver area where street names are repeated in the same area with many different suffixes (loop, lane, place, trail, road, trace, etc) searches would likely be time consuming. Note that it ignores directions (north, south, east, west) when provided, so be sure to pay attention to that in the options provided.-FYI, Californians don't use exit numbers, but Garmin announces them anyhow.-There are only two voices for US English, both of which are female. They have different styles in how they announce directions. Neither provides adequate notice for lane needs in SoCal traffic.-This Garmin could do a better job with anticipate lane needs for turns. For example: Instead of make a left turn at Bristol and AFTER that turn is made telling me to take the first right (I've already driven past that next turn and am in the left lane instead of the right), advise me to get into the right hand left turn lane to prepare for an immediate right turn.Why a Garmin instead of my phone? I prefer having a separate mapping device that always has the map on. I like being able to tell it to avoid freeways sometimes, U-turns most times, etc. Although I haven't had this one for very long, I did use it while driving in an unfamiliar area and driving near my home & work.
