    I love that this is an adjustable lens hood and that ... I love that this is an adjustable lens hood and that I don't have to worry about it ruining my lens if it gets bumped because it is made of rubber. I have been using it for several weeks now and can really tell a difference when I use it. I like that I can leave it on all the time and that it will collapse down when I don't need to use it. I like that I can still put the lens cap on even with the hood on. I would recommend this product to any photographer or aspiring photographer. 5Very Useful The lens hood for all my lenses are from Fotodiox. The offer a good product for much less than Canon. Most are hard plastic and kept on the lens, but I wanted this rubber one for my Canon 18-135 lens, my walk-around lens, for a specific purpose. When I have the opportunity, I take photos through glass, such as at an aquarium or through the window of an observation tower. Many times photos have been spoiled by reflection on the glass from lights and sunlight coming from overhead, back or sides. However. now I can press the rubber rim of this hood against the glass, isolating the scene or figure I want to photograph and eliminate the glare/reflection on the glass. Also because the rubber is flexible, with the hood against the glass I can still move the camera a bit up, down and sideways to get the shot that I want.The threads on the filter are a good match for those on the lens, and center-pinch lens caps can be put on and taken off when the hood is in place.Because I happen to prefer plastic hoods for general use, does not mean every one should or does. This lens hood would also work well for general use for those who only want one hood for their 67 mm lens. 5Shipped wrong size Ordered 49 mm. The package was labeled 49 mm, actual shipped was 50 mm.The rubber hood on my old lens hood (same brand but several years old) had deteriorated and was falling apart. This deterioration is not uncommon in sun and heat.I was able to take the ring off my old lens hood and assemble it to the new hood which was shipped with the wrong size ring. I am confident Amazon woudl have made an easy return but I was able to use a part I would have discarded anyway. 3It aint perfect, and that's kind of the point Whether you've lost your oem hood, or just want something universal, these things are pretty useful. The basic purpose of any hood is to keep sharp light from hitting your lens and causing flare.Here's the main points:-It's cheap-It can be adapted to any size smaller than it via step rings-It has 3 positions, one of which is basically storage mode.-it's soft and doesn't have any real way of getting broken-You can still use lens caps with it.-It has ridges inside to reduce internal reflections-It has the same size filter threads in front.So, it can do what it's built to do, but not without some considerations/faults:Round hood vs petal hoods:First, if you've every noticed that many oem hoods are a petal shape, not round. That's because we shoot rectangular images, and to avoid having the hood appear in the edges of the frame, they chop out those sections. This is more of an issue for standard and wide angle lenses, telephoto lenses almost always don't need petal hoods.So does that make this hood useless? not at all, especially considering you have several settings you can use it at. I do find that with my widest lenses, i have to have the hood at the smallest setting, which as i mentioned doesn't really do anything and i consider it storage mode. But that's for very wide, anything regularish wide to normal can make use of the second and third sections.ProtectionIt does help protect your lens, but it will NOT protect it from a hard hit like a hard plastic hood will.Design notes-the rubber is attached to the metal ring just by a groove, you can pull the rubber off easily and just as easily get it back on.-When using this with a polarizer, be careful not to use the hood to rotate it, OR be sure you're rotating it in the TIGHTENING direction, or you'll pull a stupid like i did and literally spin the hood off the polarizer and into the pacific ocean...DIY option:To remedy the issue of wide angle lenses, you can do a simple modification: just cut some notches out of the rubber to create a petal effect. the rubber is soft and easily cuttable, just be sure you measure and make a square, remember you're trying to remove the material which shows up in the corners of the image. 4Added benefit with circular polarizer I used collapsible hoods many years ago and liked them so wanted to try this one. I've been frustrated with the hard plastic hoods that come with the lenses, especially when traveling. I just put this hood on my 80-300 lens (77mm) and discovered an added benefit. Instead of having to manipulate the filter deep inside the original hard plastic hood simply rotating the rubber hood itself rotates the circular polarizer making it very easy to apply the amount of polarization you desire. 5My Mistake This was pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to be. However, the mistake I made, is my Sony camera has a permanently fixed Zeiss lens that zooms from 18 to 200mm. So when I looked through the viewfinder at most focal lengths, until I got to around 75, I could see part of the lens hood obstructing the corners of my view, even with the lenses hood folded back! Shame on me. I didn't think of that. Also, although it screws on well, I could hear this small rattle when I would move my camera. I think it is just the looseness of the screw mount on the lens hood. It would be great if I were shooting at 75mm or greater, but I am not, so for me this was a waste of money. 3Subpar quality, flimsy rubber and it is not even round Subpar quality, flimsy rubber and it is not even round. I ordered this "Fotodiox" one (Prime) and an AGFA one (non-Prime). Both are the same cheap hood of identical quality, likely made in the same factory but branded differently. I was able to return the Fotodiox one for a refund, but I am out of luck on the AGFA one. The hood is useable, but not very good quality and certainly not what I expected.I was hoping to find a rubber hood that pretty thick so I can twist it for adjusting my variable ND filter for video shooting that could be collapsed for storage. I decided to try a "Bower 62mm Rubber Lens Hood" also on amazon to see if NOT having the three steps will make for a stiffer rubber hood. I will try to report back once the other one arrives. Having a rubber ring to twist my variable ND will prevent me from getting so many finger prints on the filter when adjusting it. 2The rubber ripped off despite gentle handling, still using the metal mount. Been using this for a little over 2 years.It did what it did as a expandable foldable lens hood.Unfortunately the rubber hood ripped off of the metal mounting ring it stuck on to with little to no force. So many lens flares that day. I took it out of the bag gently that was unexpected. It's rubber not meant to be durable but flexible.Oddly enough still have its metal mounting ring to keep a 3rd party lens cap on.For short term use it's good.For a lifetime best stick to metal or plastic. 1However this is the BEST investment you can make in a lens hood I never thought to check Amazon for these lens hoods before. I used to get mine from Ritz Camera before their stores closed. However this is the BEST investment you can make in a lens hood! In my opinion, it works just a bit better than tulip-styled lens hoods. However the main point is this: It will help protect your expensive lenses from damage as long as you keep them extended. I'd advise only collapsing them when you get back home. I've dropped a few lenses on hard surfaces during my career, and these rubber lens hoods were highly instrumental in protecting them from serious damage. 5Exceeded my expectations This was far better than I had anticipated it would be. It holds all three folding positions well and maintains a relatively light weight while still having solid construction. Please understand that when you are purchasing a rubber hood and that's any rubber hood not just this one that you are giving up any of the protective capabilities of a lens hood. This is purely to keep unwanted light out. The metal ring that screws onto the front of the lens is very solid and much thicker than I thought it would be. This is good because I was afraid of the metal bending and not fitting on the lens anymore. Unlike other rubber hoods I have used the thickness of the rubber is right on with this one as well. Sometimes the rubber can be so thick that it weighs down the lens and other times it can be so thin that it can't hold its shape. This one is just right. The only issue I have had so far isn't so much an issue with this hood rather than my own lens cap. I have a lens cap that slides over the end of the lens instead of fitting on the inside rim of it. This means every time I want to put the cap back on I have to unscrew the hood first. If you are like me I would suggest buying a new lens cap when you purchase this, one that will fit on the inside rim of the lens. 5
