Customer Reviews

These filters fit the lens perfectly. I have experienced ... These filters fit the lens perfectly. I have experienced what I feel is a somewhat degraded image quality, it's minor and mostly seen when cropping and zooming in. I have also experienced shadow images/reflections as a result of using this filter. If I had to do it again, I would spend the money on a different brand 2Let me give you some different types of information. Functionally, this is a top-quality filter in terms of glass (on a par with HMC, somewhat more difficult to clean than B+W MRC, totally planar using the arms' length test, pretty much immune to ghosting) and overall value. That said, I would draw your attention to the following:1. The mount on this is not tremendously smooth, almost a sandblasted anodized aluminum. This would not be significant if not for the fact that you can feel this "grit" when it is screwing into the smooth front of a camera lens (like the Fuji X100).2. The mount loads from the rear using a tension ring, so it is not suitable for anything but 1mm glass. The tradeoff is that you still get threads (and a shallow enough overall depth) to add another filter (some people may look at cheap UVs as a way to get cheap but elegant lens mounts).3. The diameter of the mount actually exceeds by about 1mm total the size of most 49mm mounts. This means that 51mm clamp-on accessories (such as lens hoods designed for "49mm") won't fit.4. The plastic filter case alone is worth the price. It is very similar to a B+W filter case (though very oversized for the filter it contains).5. The front rim engraving is weird and ugly. For a private-label product like this, simple pad printing in black would have been more elegant (and cheaper).I don't want to scare you away from this, but understand that this is not a $30 filter. For my purpose, which is basic protection for a Fuji X100 (using a filter seals the lens cylinder when you have the adapter mounted), it's great. In sum, this is inexpensive, highly functional, and priced at a point where if it dies protecting your lens, you won't lose any sleep. 5Best $10 ever spent. It's really a great bargain for the price. I was waffling between going all out with the B+W 77mm uv filter but I kept reading the positive reviews. I figured what the heck at $10 and Amazon Prime I didn't have much to lose. I purchased two, one for my Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L lens and for my Canon EF 17-40mm L lens. Shot the moon with my 70-200 and checked for CA in Lightroom5. Amazingly clear for a $10 filter and no ghosting either. This filter rocks and I highly recommend it. BTW my camera body is a Canon 5D MK II. So why 4 and not 5? Well te filter ring is very thin which makes it great for my 17-40mm wide angle zoom. The bad side to that thinness is the OEM Canon lens cap barely has enough of a rim to attach to. I can't say that's completely bad as it limits the amount of Vignetting when using my wide angle. 4It s ok I am defiantly getting a flare when I point it directly at a bright light and when I look into the filter I can see it! It also attracts dust like crazy and if you aren t careful in wiping it leaves streaks like crazy. It is not a very smooth coating it kinda sticks. Not sticky but if you know what I mean you know what I mean! Still it s cheap and I will only use it when I fear there will be potentially something that can damage my lens. 3Wonderful filter at great price This filter is a gem. I have used B+W, Nikon, Hoya, Kenko, Tiffen filters. I decided to give it a try and save some money. My initial feeling is that this filter performs the same if not better than B+W filter. It is also slim which works well for wide-angle lens.I quickly tested anti-flare with 70-200mm lens against the sun and it worked like a charm. Definitely recommend this filter. 5Very nice product for the price. I debated on how many stars to give this product. The filter and its function get 5 stars. For the condition of the product on arrival it gets 0 stars. The filter arrived filthy. This was most likely a return or one that sat around for a while. It was full of stuck on dust. Normally I would just pack junk like this up and send it back but for the price and effort I decided to clean the filter. I used three wet lens wipes to clean it. Like a dummy, I was standing up next to a window cleaning and checking my job. During the cleaning process I dropped the filter on a hard wood floor and thought for sure this would have damaged the item. It held up like a tank. The coating works very well and prevents flaring. No vignetting at the 17mm wide end of my 17-70. 5Excellent protection for Fuji X20 I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased with the Fotasy Pro 40mm MRC Multi-Resistant Coating Super Slim MC UV HD Filter.I bought it for added lens protection for my Fuji X20. It screws securely onto the front of the X20's factory lens, and does not appear to degrade image quality at all.To test the filter, I used a tripod and identical camera settings to snap a half dozen identically-composed photos both with and without the filter. Even while "pixel peeping" at 150% magnification, I could detect no noticeable difference in sharpness or coloration. Then I took the camera and filter on a walk around the neighborhood and shot 167 photos during the "golden hour" (around 7:30 p.m. in the summer). Even though I shot many pictures into the bright evening light, I found only two in the entire bunch that had any hint of lens flare. Clearly, the coating on this UV filter is surprisingly good, since cheap glass ought to have flared a lot more frequently in those conditions. Although I'm not a professional photographer, I am an experienced amateur who is fastidious about image quality. This filter certainly meets my standards, and I suspect it will meet yours as well.A note about color: I think this (black) filter looks nice mounted on the front of my silver and black X20. However, the thin gold stripe around the outside of the filter housing may bother folks who obsess about camera aesthetics. It doesn't bother me, but I thought I should mention it.Overall, if you want a UV filter that offers good lens protection for a Fuji X20 without noticeably degrading image quality, this is a great choice. (I assume it will fit an X10 as well, since I believe the thread sizes are identical on both cameras.)[UPDATE 8-27-2013: After many hundreds of photos using this filter, I'm very impressed with its quality. I've had almost zero troubles with odd color casts, lens flares, loss of sharpness, reflections, etc. It's just like using the naked lens, except that this UV filter is there to guard against scratches. Although it screws very securely onto the X20 lens, I have noticed that small dust particles can somehow work their way behind it. Not a problem--I just unscrew it and wipe and blow everything clean every few days. Also, the coating on this filter is apparently quite good. After shooting and watching video from my sailboat, I noticed that small droplets of spray onto the lens tend to run off and disappear almost immediately. It's unbelievable that I purchased this for under $8, but even at the full listed price of $28 it would be a good deal.] 5Better than the big names! These filters work as well, or better than the big name filters costing exponentially more. Once in a while you will find one with a flaw, but at the price you pay for these it is not an issue. The thin frame on these filters can provide a huge advantage over many other, more expensive filters. The coating on these filters is fabulous, and better than some of the much more expensive filters! 5Great UV filter This filter is definitely multicoated, which can be verified by exposing it to a light source. You'll see a green or violet tint when seen at an angle. Thin design which is great for my Canon L lenses. No problem with focus and seems to improve brightness of pictures. Filter works better than the more expensive Hoya filters and would highly recommend this filter for all lenses. 5Transmission Across Visible Not High Enough Coating and glass don't provide high enough transmission across visible. I work at a thin film coating company so I am able to measure the transmission performance across the visible wavelength 380-780nm using a company spectrophotometer. There is coating on both surfaces so the price is good but this filter does not perform as well as advertised and a good photographer would notice the performance loss, even though they most likely don't have access to a spectrophotometer. This isn't to say that an expensive filter will perform as well as advertised. I was going to use it on a Tamron 150-600 G2 and I don't want to risk performance loss. 2
