    Hello Walmart Star says it all. Battery worked fine. Device did not. It kept going off. Made of inexpensive plastic, thus a bit flimsy. Guess what? Amazon would not take it back because it did not meet shipping safety requirements. Seriously!!! It is in the trash and I driving to Walmart for one rhat can be returned should there be a problem. 1Do not buy I ordered 5 of these, one for each of the rooms in my home. My mother in law lives with us because she cannot take care of herself. She put fish in the microwave for 30 minutes when we were asleep. The entire house was filled with smoke and only 1 alarm went off. Super disappointing because we purchased these to save our lives. 1ARRIVED BROKEN Arrived and does not work. Sounds like something is loose rattling around inside. Pressed the Return button and message popped up that this item cannot be returned. I didn't see anything posted anywhere telling customers this fact BEFORE purchase. 1Battery was included! This is the nicest smoke detector I've ever purchased. It is heavy duty and I love the way the battery compartment opens with just the push of a lever. it takes one 9 V battery which was included. That right there saved me a few dollars. It is very sensitive and I had to move it to the far side of my kitchen because it would go off every time I opened my oven door. it is not as loud and screeching as some others I have had but it is loud enough. To silence it you just push a button. Mounting was fairly simple. I unscrewed the old one from the ceiling and screwed this one in. I did have to drill one new screw hole since the new ones didn't match up with the old. 5Bad Design, Test Button Does Not Work! Like some others who have left reviews, the test buttons are faulty on these smoke detectors. I purchased two of them and neither one of the test buttons work. Being the kind of person who can't stand it when something doesn't work, I took one apart to see what the problem was. There is a little blue button on the inside, that the "leg" on the test button is supposed to push against. The leg on the test button doesn't even come close to touching that blue button. You can squeeze a little Allen wrench/Hex Key L side up into the back of the unit under the test button leg and touch that blue button to test the unit, but I would just buy a different smoke detector with better reviews! 1Great Alarms! These work great and First Alert has been making safety equipment for a long time so it's a good trusted name. I noticed people complaining about the fit being loose and I must say READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. There is a locking pin to lock the alarm to the mount. I included pictures of the locking pin and where to place the pin in the alarm. Be sure to use some canned air every so often to clean off dust and these should last the 10 years they're supposed to. Highly recommended for the price and quality! 5Horrible Design - Can fall down easily Piece of garbage! I will never by first Alert again. The SA305CN smoke detector does not securely attach to the mounting bracket. It turns about a 1/8 of an inch at most with zero resistance without locking into place. If you turn it slightly maybe an 1/8 of an inch it falls down. I called first alert and the technician looked at the display model and he said he completely understands my concern of it falling down so easily. You can attach an optional tamper proof locking pin which will make it very difficult to change the batter or take it down if it has a false alarm. Horrible design. I also bought First Alert PRC710 Combination Carbon Monoxide and Photoelectric Smoke Detector which has a slightly longer turn to hold it but again it does not even slightly lock in place. Really poorly designed. 1Works great. I used to have this same smoke alarm ... Works great. I used to have this same smoke alarm but got rid of it because it would go off every time my oven was on (there wasn't any smoke though!) It was almost like the heat set it off. My next smoke alarm got cracked after it was dropped while changing the batteries so when I was looking to buy another I decided to give this one a try again. It looks the same, feels the same, sounds the same as the old one but it doesn't go off every time the oven is on! Yay! I know it works, because it went off when we blew out a few candles near it. 550% Failure Rate! I purchased a four-pack of these alarms. Two of them were defective, a 50% failure rate. The TEST/MUTE button did not work on the two failed units. The test button is actually a flexible flap on the plastic cover. Attached to the underside of the flap is a plastic post about 3/4" long which is supposed to contact a push button switch on the product's printed circuit board when the test button is pressed. But on the failed units, the post missed the switch completely. Product would probably still work as a smoke alarm, but the fact that you can't test it or mute it constitutes a safety defect in my opinion. I have submitted a report to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. 1The negative comments on this proved true to me - ... The negative comments on this proved true to me - difficult battery insert, no plus or minus markings on device to show which direction, light came on and stayed on without sound activating on test, switched provided battery with new battery, then re-read directions and held test button down for a long time and finally....sound and light worked! This product has improvement opportunities and I would not purchase again, but if you have similar problems, try holding the test button down for an extended time before giving up! 1
