    I have the FiiO K1 and like that little USB DAC/Amp very much Probably the only amp you'll need unless you want to spend north of $300. I just recently bought a pair of HD650 and tried out a few amps and none of them can power the HD650 properly. I have the FiiO K1 and like that little USB DAC/Amp very much, so I decided to give this one a try. FiiO official website stated that the E10K is the updated version of their older E10, which includes a newer DAC and amp chip. Got this amp/DAC the same day and here is a short review.- Build quality: Very nicely made with no sharp corner that can cut you (like other cheap Chinese products). FiiO has always have good aesthetic design and the material used is of high quality. The switches and rotating knob feel good during operation. I also really like the front blue LED light when the unit is on. Quite cool looking.- Headphones handling: As mentioned before, I am using this unit with my Sennheiser HD650 (300 ohms). In short, it drives these cans with ease and plenty loud enough in case you want to listen at ear-bleeding level. Make sure you set the switch to "high gain" in order to get good volume out of higher impedance headphones. So for those people having the HD600/HD650, yes this will power them with no problem whatsoever.- Sound quality: This is where FiiO hit it out of the park with this DAC/amp combo. The sound quality is warm and detail after a few hours of breaking-in. This amp is very easy to listen to and works very well with Windows 10. I set the bass boost to off and used iTunes' equalizer setting instead. This thing is seriously of audiophile quality. and definitely put many of the more expensive amps to shame. The E10K brings out the best of my HD650 without a sweat. I think most people would find this amp to be an excellent sounding DAC/amp.Conclusion: With its good look, ease of use, and great sound, it is hard to not recommend this DAC/amp for Hi-Fi use. Thanks to modern technology, products like the E10K could exist at such a low price point. This unit is a serious amp with a very good DAC built into it. If you have a nicer pair of headphones, do yourself a favor and check this item out before spending more money on other DAC/amps. 5Computer Programmer's use/opinion - Fiio E10K First off: I am not an accomplished audiophile. I don't know all the technical ins/outs of the circuitry. I'm a programmer sitting at a computer all day and mostly have my over-the-ear headphones on all day as we now have an "Open Office" layout and it is the worst corporate decision any company can make. It makes talkative people beacons of noise, like audio lighthouses. I'm not sure but I think the guy that sits next to me is training his voice and vocal cords to become the loudest speaking human in the United States (I can't speak for other countries). It makes it so hard to concentrate on work. I needed louder input from my headphones so I started looking into these devices. I can tell you that this little device is the bomb! It is well built. It works right after plugging it in. I did have to choose it as my 'default' playback device, that was easy. I'm going to buy the Audiotechnica M50X headphones right after Christmas but right now I'm using some pretty standart Bose over-the-ear headphones. These Bose headphones were $100 about 6 years ago, they're not bad but they're not GREAT. The E10K will kick out the volume. I can not turn the volume (gain) knob past 3 or 4 without pain. As tech as I can get I'll tell you the E10K has no added hiss or noise or buzz. It is totally quiet. The sound now is more clear and a little more bass-y with the bass boost 'on'. I mostly listen to talk radio in the morning and 'genre' stations on iHeart Radio from 10:00 AM till the end of the day and the occasional song on YouTube. I like it. I would suggest it to a friend. 5A bit disappointed, but it's $75 and it performs well for the price It's a good product. Works as advertised and extremely easy to use. However I'm slightly disappointed with the audio performance.I spent good amount of time auditioning various devices driving my HD580. (I used to be able to hear 19-20KHz but now I think i'm at around 18-19KHz).iphone6 -> HD580------------------------ sounds flat and underpowered as expected.macbook pro retina 15" late 2013 -> HD580----------------------------------------------------------surprisingly it sounds pretty good. Clarity at the high end is very good. Bass isn't super impressive as expected. I can crank up the volume until my ears can't handle, without clipping or distortion. When I play complex sounds each instrument is clear which makes stereo separation sound good. Maybe macbook pro 15" is quite capable?macbook pro retina 15" late 2013 USB -> FiiO E10k -> HD580 (high gain mode)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Low end probably beats the 3.5mm jack on the mbp. Bass is strong too. I've been trying to chase this sound for my desktop. Disclaimer: not exactly fair because I'm not comparing the exact same music source.Conclusion---------------I'm disappointed that this isn't a clear winner compared to the 3.5mm jack from macbook pro. In fact, I might even prefer the macbook pro's builtin headphone dac/amp. Perhaps time to upgrade to something more fancy. 4An appropriately priced and sturdy workhorse DAC I have been using this little guy for over a year now and it's working as solidly as it did on day one. It just sits on my desk at work and does it's duty day after day. This is the first external DAC I've ever owned and I'm certainly pleasantly surprised at it's ability to appropriately drive my Marshall Monitor headphones.For the price I am extremely happy with my purchase and would do it again. 5A very good amp for the casual audiophile A very good amp for the casual audiophile. I'm using it with a Sennheiser HD280. Absolutely no hassles setting it up -- "it just works".The package includes the amp, some stick-on rubber feet, and a 3' USB to micro USB cable.I got this amp mainly for when I'm at work and using a laptop with OK onboard sound, and also when I'm traveling and have my phone. The improvement in clarity, sound stage, and low end response with my Galaxy S5 is incredible. Bear in mind this amp does not have a battery, it must be plugged in at all times. To use with a phone like the S5, you will also need to purchase a micro USB to female USB cable. It's a bit cumbersome, but certainly worth it.If you have a desktop with good onboard sound, this is probably unnecessary. You will notice a slight difference but I don't think it's justifiable unless you have a good set of headphones. The amp not being portable does make using it with your phone a bit more of a hassle but as I said I think it's worth it. The amp itself is well built and only a few ounces, so the only real burden is a couple extra wires in your pocket.[UPDATE 04/26/17]I've been having issues with a subtle click sound whenever the audio starts or stops. Using the amp with my phone also causes this horribly loud distortion/screech noise everytime I get a call or a text. I've found both of these issues can be mitigated by turning down the gain on the amp to half. 3Why all the hype? I bought this expecting it to really bring my Sennheiser HD 598s to life. Well, I couldn't tell the difference between this and the onboard sound on my PC. I have an ASUS Maximus VII HERO motherboard which has an ALC 1150 audio chipset. If you are using the same onboard audio, then this will do nothing for you on a headset around 50 OHMS like the HD 598.The story may change on something with higher impedance like a DT 990 Pro @ 250 OHMs. Otherwise, save your cash. I usually try to write a more detailed review than this, but there isn't much to say. The product functions, looks nice, and is well packaged. But with this kind of product, performance is everything, and it did not perform well for me. 2Don't look any further...Just buy this already! I've been researching DAC/Amp combos for a while now, and I wanted something that wouldn't destroy my wallet yet sounded good. The original FiiO E10 seemed like the best option, however it was unavailable for purchase for a very long time.When I found out the E10K was available, I immediately bought it, and I have no regrets.It goes miles ahead of my on-board DAC from my motherboard, which had RealTek ALC898 chipset, which is regarded as one of the better on-board motherboard DAC's. Sound is A LOT more crisp, you can finally distinguish the mids and all the different instruments playing, and the bass is slightly accentuated with the +3 db bass boost switch (I use it, and I prefer it over no bass-boost). It brings my ATH-M50's back to life!I would agree with other reviewers here that the E10K that the sound is warm overall, yet crisp.It comes in a very small package, and it is rather light weight. However the build quality on this little thing is amazing! It feels super sturdy, and the volume knob has the right amount of resistance to it, and feels solid.One slight problem that I have with it is that the included micro-usb cable is too short for my use (desktop PC), so I have to buy a longer micro-usb for decent cable management. But it still doesn't take away from the fact that this is the best bang-for-your-buck DAC/Amp combo. 5Great DAC/amp for the price Swapped out my Creative G5 for this USB DACamp.+This USB DAC/amp will appear to Windows 10 as a SPDIF interface. You can use the volume knob to control the amplifier output level while independently adjusting volume within Windows.+Noise floor is imperceptible at my workstation.+Everything sounds as it should, no weird pops when a sound starts playing or during low frequency base that plagued my old DAC.+Package comes with a strip of 3M SJ5003 Black Bumpon (pack of 56) which provide enough friction to secure the product on a table.-The blue LED. It is so bright that you can barely read the volume markings in ambient room lighting. The dial is not see through so the blue light doesn't help in the dark either. 5Saved my expensive cans. Well, I am sold. I have a pair of Sony MDR-1a's, which are some of the most comfortable cans I have owned but were a little underwhelming when playing music via Spotify on my computer. I'm a huge music lover but not a big believer in a lot of the audiophile crap like expensive cables and amps so i was expecting to be disappointed. But clearly my headphones were under-driven from my sound card or something, because these things really brought them out of their shell. Installation (WIn 7 64) was seamless. Much more detail, better yet still tight bass. No hint of hiss/pop/glitches. Having the volume knob is nice and it is loose enough for one-handed operation but won't change if bumped. One reviewer commented that the high gain sounded much better than low and I was skeptical but I must say that I agree. Music seemed much more detailed on high gain. These will likely not live up to the auditory hallucinations of an audiophile but if you think your cans aren't living up to their potential, this could be a relatively cheap fix. 5Purchased for bass boost function, ended up loving it for a heck of a lot more. I'm prefacing this review by stating that I'm not an audiophile. I'm a skilled classical musician, and a huge fan of modern EDM/hip-hop/etc, but never officially trained my ear.I purchased this DAC to accompany my new Sony-MDR1A stereo headphones. They sound great when connected to my rMBP's audio jack, and classical recordings sounded wonderful when played back through Spotify, but the bass was very lacking throughout hip-hop and EDM. I spend about half my time listening to classical and the other half listening to EDM, so I wanted a DAC that could pump the bass a bit whenever I wanted.That's what I was expecting when I ordered the E10K. Does it deliver? Yes. There's a bass switch right on the front that significantly - but not overwhelmingly - boosts the bass output through the headphone jack.I wasn't expecting any sort of noticeable increase in sound quality because I'd been told that the retina MacBook Pro line has a good internal DAC. However, the difference in overall sound quality is very noticeable when switching between the E10K and the rMBP's built-in output. The sound stage is dramatically amplified - the trombones and horns at the beginning of Williams' "Raiders of the Lost Ark" score are clearly separated in position from the trumpet theme, for example. In EDM, it's possible to hear every single synth-instrument throughout deadmau5's "The Veldt" (I didn't previously know that some of the melodies even existed before listening through this DAC).Right now, I've got the DAC hooked up to my rMBP. Its line out (which isn't affected by the volume dial or bass switch) goes to my desktop speakers, and the headphone jack remains open if I want to switch to my MDR-1As for some power studying.For my purposes, it's perfect. I merely wanted a bass-boost function, but got way more than that with the E10K. I can seriously recommend this little guy to anybody looking to make a difference in their audio experience. 5
