Customer Reviews

Excellent light. This AA light rivals the output lumens of the $100+ rechargeable LED flashlights that my company offers (stingily -- only to supervisors). As a maintenance technician at an industrial plant I regularly use the belt clip to attach this light to my hard-hat and I can accomplish tasks--hands free that I would normally be pulling a drop light and extension cord into. In fact, I have had several people ask me where I got this light even though they had the heavier, more expensive (and free-to them) rechargeable LED light provided by my company.Pros: Powerful for It's size. Excellent mid flood to focus beam compromise.Cons: 35 min AA battery life on high (I normally only use the 2nd to the least power setting as it is bright enough for most app)This thing works well with AA re-chargeable batteries. Expect to burn through a lot of AA batteries for a high lumens. 5Dang thing won't light! Carefully read many reviews and settled on the Fenix LD22 G2. Anxiously awaited delivery. Thrilled when it arrived a real beauty. Put fresh batteries in and the dang thing wouldn't light. Tried it again with two more fresh batteries and nothing. Double checked position of batteries, etc. but nothing. Very disappointed. How can one trust a light down the road if it doesn't work right out of the box. Poor quality control, I guess, because I saw at least two other comments with similar complaints.Amazon made it very simple to return and gave me a quick refund, but even if I wanted to try again, the price has now gone up $5. 2Excellent light for an excellent price This last night was everything I wanted and more. I bought 21 for an everyday carry light and the other to put on my shotgun. I was looking for a strong powerful double a battery light because I use rechargeables and I find it easier to get a hold of in the event of an emergency or from someplace far from home. The 215 lm maximum output is very bright and has a very decent amount of throw. It comes with Lanyard eared a nylon case and two replacement all rings. The one I put on the shotgun has been working like a top. I smacked around and ran a lot of slugs and buck shot trying to induce a failure and it still working fine. My every day carry one I took kayaking one day and went into the drink with me and no problem state functioning above the boat below the boat in the water outside of the water everything was fine. Thinking about getting two more! 5Excellent Value on a flashlight! If you want a reliable flashlight, with features that are easy to use, and that runon readily available AA batteries look no further. I recieved one as a gift and I was immediately impressed by the light output from such a small light. I was impressed enough to buy 4 more that were provided to my industrial maintenace technicians for daily use. A year later, none of these lights have failed in the field in any way. More specifically the environment in which these are used includes high moisture, steam, heat, grease, chemcials, and a myriad of drops, impacts and dings. In total I have purchased and issued 10 of these lights on the job and I keep one in every vehicle I own. There are bigger, brighter, more expensive lights available but few that work this well and run on AA batteries! This is huge consideration because the CR123 batteries that are common to high performance lights are expensive and to date they are still not readily availble in a reliable rechargeable format! 5Well designed great quality build on an insanely bright flashlight. This is the first tactical flashlight I've owned, and the usability, brightness and build quality are awesome. I like the tail button on/off switch, which remembers the previous setting. The front button, which switches between modes, is a little bit hard to find, even with the light turned on, but it's not as critical to be able to find it in complete darkness like the on/off switch is, so I think this design approach is best. I can always grab the light and turn it on in an instant, and if I fumble around for a second adjusting the brightness or activating the strobe, it's okay. I'm not a paramilitary type who will use this for attacking bunkers; I'm just a nerd who likes camping and backpacking with reliable gear.I previously owned one of the Streamlight flashlights, which I unfortunately lost, and when I started shopping for a replacement my research led me to this one. I think it would be unfair to compare the two, since this light is in a different class than the Streamlight I owned, and costs more than twice as much. But I'm very happy so far with my purchase. 5Fenix simply makes great flashlights Bought this for my girlfriend to do double duty as a flashlight and a bicycle headlight (using a handlebar clamp). As a flashlight, the LD22 is very bright for its size (beating most much larger flashlights), lightweight, reasonably waterproof, and has good battery life. The use of AA batteries is great for those people that have already invested in AA rechargeable batteries. In our case we use Sanyo Eneloop batteries since they are low self discharge (they don't die on their own very quickly sitting on a shelf). As a bicycle headlight the jury is still out since we haven't used it yet. The beam may be a bit narrow for that, but given its adequate spill it should be sufficient.Since purchasing my first Fenix flashlight back in 2008, I have almost exclusively purchased Fenix lights. They're extremely well made and extremely bright. Thus far those purchases include this LD22, an L2D (essentially an older model of this light), the LD41 (uses four batteries and is brighter), a TK41 for my parents (eight AA's and even brighter), and a handful of E01's for emergency kits. None of them have ever let me down. 5Not as depicted or advertised.... different model Great light but fenix ruinded a good design.. I wanted the 215 lumin model because it has a recess for the clip to fit on the front.. they sent the newer version which doesn t have that... wish it was as specied in the listing.... 3In-depth review from a big flashlight fan After a lot of research I decided to grab one of these as a camping/car light. A little background on me, I'm a bit of a flashlight whore. I have Surefires, Quarks, Zebralights etc. but this was my first Fenix. I wanted something with excellent run time, a decent lumen output and AA batteries. I have plenty of CR123 lights and generally prefer them but AA are much more widely spread and I wanted something I could scrounge batteries for anywhere. I decided to buy this light as a camping/tent light that otherwise sits in my car door pocket, just in case. I am almost always carrying a light of some kind, and I have several different lights in my trunk/car bag but it's nice having something that I don't have to worry about. I grabbed a battery holder and 4 more AA's and now I know I'll always have a primary/back up light ready. On to what I like about this light:AA batteries: Sure, not as much power as CR123s but you can find them anywhere and they are cheap. You can also use rechargeable AA to lower your cost.Beam: This light has great throw. I tested this vs several other lights (including my go to, a Quark Tactical) that put out quite a lot more lumens (300+) but this light had surprisingly good throw in comparison. Flood was good but I found it more throwy than floody. No beam artifacts and overall a nice smooth light.Run time: Excellent. Run this thing on low, which is more than enough for a tent or in the house and it will last for something like 150+ hours.Build quality: Pretty good, the batteries in mine rattle a tiny bit but no biggie. Overall a well-made light. I haven't put it through much abuse/water yet but I'm assuming it will hold up fine.Modes: The modes are pretty good. Nice steps in brightness and low is fairly low, which is good. Nice that the usual flashy modes (strobe, SoS, beacon) are hidden. I find I never use them 99% of the time anyway. If you want strobe, get a tac light.Holster: Comes with a basic nylon holster, nothing special but it works. What I don't like:Mode selector: I'm not a huge fan of the button that changes the modes. The clicky button on the back (with temporary on) activates the light. Then there is a small soft button near the head of the light that cycles through the modes. I found myself rolling the light around in my hand feeling for that silly button. I wish they made it a bit more tactile/raised. Once you get it indexed with the clip it's fine but still, not my favorite.Clip: I wish the pocket clip rode a lot deeper. It is reversible which is nice but I don't like my lights sticking out of my pocket that much. I didn't buy this light to put in my pocket however so it's not a big deal. Conclusion: If you are looking for a long lasting camp/power outage light this would make a great choice. Runs on easily available batteries, has great runtime, puts out plenty of usable light, isn't festooned with useless modes, and won't break the bank. Sure, you could pay more for more lumens and a bunch of extras but trust me, coming from someone who has all those on other lights...you won't miss them. Purchase with confidence! 4This light left me not wanting to even look into other lights. 100% satisfied. I have had this flashlight now for about a yea now, maybe longer. This is one of those items that has become a staple part of my life without question. I use this ALL the time. I originally just wanted something for random needs but it has turned into one of those items you start to incorporate into your daily routine.I use this mostly for:1) Navigating the house on the "low setting" at night. My wife goes to bed before me nearly every night and I always use this to enter the bedroom and get situated as well as walk around the house and set the alarm, grab waters and so on...2) Take the dogs out at night. ALL the time I use this for the dogs...I take them out before bed and sometimes during the night. The low setting and second to low setting is perfect for this, so I am not freaking out the neighbors.3) Working in my garage at night... I work on my quads, dune toys, and lately my '58 Bug. This light has been instrumental for me when doing this. I keep it handy in my pocket (the clip it has works great) or in my slot in my 5.11 pants (the Black ones I have turned into shop pants as they collect tons of lint when used normally...). Regular shop lights are great for general illumination, but this flashlight is awesome for pinpoint illumination...and a low profile for tight spots.4) Bumps in the night. I have gotten up a few times for this but thankfully nothing dramatic came from it...but its a good resource. The "bright setting" is bright enough to stun and its a great addition to your pistol for zombie sweeps.I actually bought one for my father-in-law as well, since I thought it was so awesome. 5Good light for work use. I bought this to replace my old LD20. I had carried the old one for over ten years. I'm not too keen on the brightness adjustment on this model. I liked the rotating head of the LD20 better. The new one doesn't require two hands to adjust the brightness selection but, it does create a weak spot at the front side of the unit. Over time I can see this getting scraped up, torn, and becoming a problem. I use this in construction, plumbing, and appliance repairs. Water tightness is important. Time will tell if that side button holds up. The old one was tough. I pretty much wore the finish off of it from constant use. Dropped it regularly, and submerged it at least twice a week. It never failed. I simply misplaced it.The clip is great and I do like the new really low setting. Batteries last a long time on that setting. My old one was slightly brighter at the highest setting but, I seldom used it at that level anyway. The fact that it uses 2 AA batteries is a big selling point. If I had to constantly shell out for CR123A's it would be too costly. 4
