Customer Reviews

Warm glow, energy efficientWe put one of these in our master bath so that we can have enough light to see if we wake up in the night, but can avoid that part of the light spectrum that makes it hard to go to sleep. We chose a low-wattage LED for energy efficiency. At first it seemed weird because we had never had an orange light before, but now we really like it. It is in a ceiling fixture with its own wall switch, so as long as we hit the correct switch when we are mostly asleep, we don't have to deal with super bright lights. We choose to turn it on as needed, rather than keep it on all night. It also seems to preserve night vision, making the trip back to bed less hazardous. I was going to get red for this (like they use in the Navy), but I decided orange was less harsh. It gives a glow like firelight, but without the flickering. My inner Cavewoman is very happy. And I am sleeping much better. I plan to try an orange bulb in my new bedside lamp, too, to see if I can read by it. I like to read before bed, but most bulbs suppress melatonin, and that makes it hard to fall asleep. 5This is an absolutely fantastic little bulbThis is an absolutely fantastic little bulb. It fit right into my light fixtures without any issues. I'm very pleased with the color of the light, is very warm not quite halogen but very, very close. The bulbs seem very well built, they fit into my little "hockey puck" fixtures perfectly. I'm planning on replacing about 10 more bulbs in my remaining fixtures, mainly because the factory incandescent bulbs keep on burning out every 3 to 6 months Kama which is getting sort of expensive. Obviously I will save money on electricity as well. The packaging was fine, standard retail package. The packaging protects the Bold for shipping, so everything's perfect there. All in all I recommend these bulbs. Actually I plan on buying more myself. Highly recommended! 5Keeps baby sleepyI bought several of these, red and orange, after learning about the Sleepy Baby lamp and then gathering other info of how they worked from a lighting design class I was in. My baby sees only these lights in the wee hours of the night when she wakes to feed. After a quick diaper change and a bottle, she is right back to sleep. Prior to trying these lamps that was about an hour and a half process to get her back down. I'd like to test if the lamps are the reason for this, but don't want to sacrifice the sleep. I'll stick with them until she's older. I do know these lamps do tend to make me less alert when I get up as well. Typical lights seem to give me a bit of a shock to the eyes when turned on and makes me more alert when I'm getting up with the little one, which then leads to me taking longer to fall asleep I feel. So I try to avoid using any lamps other than these at night as well. 5Buyer beware bulb stopped working after 1 day, and is NON-RETURNABLEThis replacement light bulb was perfect in my Kenmore Elite microwave...for about 24 hours, until it suddenly stopped working. I don't have any idea why it stopped working, whether it was a defective bulb, or if it may have possibly been incompatible with the fixture. The original bulb it replaced was a 20W halogen bulb, which worked for years, but I wanted to replace it because of how hot it burned. Ordinarily I would just order an exchange bulb, and then watch it closely for any abnormalities, or whether it stops working soon, but I couldn't exchange this bulb because the seller apparently has a no return policy. I wish I had seen that before I ordered this from Amazon.... 1Wish it was 40W equivalent but these work & are the only game in town currentlyIt's only 20W equivalent (120 lumens) is the downside, but literally no one else is yet making these G8 bulbs in an LED 40W equivalent just yet, I've searched for several hours on many websites. The light is also not as "warm" as I would like it, I wish it was 2700K instead of 3,000K. The light is sort of underwhelming, at 20w equivalent, and 3K, it definitely lacks the richer personality of the Xenon 40W bulbs. I suppose the difference between 2700K and 3000K is insignificant for more people, and a personal preference for others though.Regarding CRI, Feit doesn't list that...which after hours of researching LED's means that they are unlikely 90+. Heck, for as dull as they make my granite & tile backsplash look, they may even be more like 70 CRI, I'm not sure. I've seen some other Feit products listed at 80, which is maybe what these are? Again, not ideal....So, if you have G8's under kitchen counters or etc, and are tired of the high heat produced by normal bulbs, these are basically the only show in town currently, which means that I'll be keeping them even though the quality of the light produced is not 5 stars IMO.You can try a Xenon bulb first if you want as they run slightly cooler than the halogen bulbs, but the Xenon's still put out quite a bit of heat (ie, if you keep a butter dish in the cabinet above the lights, your butter will be nice & soft, if not melted). These LED's run cool, and save you juice...but the 20w's are definitely more dim & less accurate at reproducing the color of the items being lit, than the 40W Xenon's I was replacing. For me, the energy savings (10 of these in my kitchen is 20W total vs 400W w/ Xenon's), since I don't have to be anal about turning off the accent lights, and cooler temps were an acceptable trade off.Feit if you are listening, we are eagerly awaiting 40W (~240 lumens) 90+ CRI G8 Bulbs! (and 2700 if possible!) :) 4Good bulb, but double check your applicationGoing to save some $$, only problem with the actual item, this bulb is larger at the base than a standard halogen bulb that it was replacing. I bought it to replace a light for an over-the-stove microwave oven where the light is underneath and shines down on the range. The old halogen had a narrower bulb base and a tad longer leads(wire-prongs). So, when I tried to install this LED one, it wouldn't go in far enough to the receptacle to make electrical contact. Fortunately I was able to chip away the ceramic receptacle/bulb holder to accommodate the new bulb, The ceramic probably is necessary when using a Halogen bulb, to shield the heat, since they can get very HOT. It shouldn't be an issue with a cool-burning LED bulb, but still, I wouldn't recommend modifying the outlet to accommodate the bulb. 3Good but ....Update after 6 months:Bulb went out for no reason. No light. Need to replace with a new one now. I thought LED bulb would last longer than a halogen bulb. This is not a good bulb. This bulb works well BUT if you re replacing a regular halogen G8 bulb with this one, be careful. Some conventional adapters have a small, narrow rectangular space to hold the halogen bulb. The base of this bulb is too big to fit in such an adapter. 2Extremely High failure rate! Reinstalled the halogen bulb - see my update! Update - November 28, 2015 After spending a long time searching for another LED bulb for our microwave interior lighting, I happened across this one: Best to Buy (1-Pack) LED-G8-2.5W 110-130V Warm White G8 base LED bulbs This LED bulb directs all the light in one direction, which is perfect for our application. What's better, it's lasted longer... still working perfectly, than any of the previous LED bulbs I've installed in our microwave! :) Update - November 26, 2017 2 years & the above mentioned Best to Buy LED bulb is still working perfectly! Here's my story - failure rate for the Feit G8 LED bulb... [1] Purchased on May 28, 2015. Installed June 15, failed on July 14. LED bulb life = 30 days![2] Purchased on July 14, 2015. Installed July 20, failed July 28. LED bulb life = 8 days![3] Purchased 2 bulbs on July 30, 2015. Installed August 3. Failed the same day... within hours after it was installed![4] Installed the second bulb on August 3, 2015. This bulb looked promising, but failed today after 22 days![5] I received the warranty replacement LED bulb in today's mail, August 31, 2015 & it's been installed. I'll update how long this LED bulb lasts. Update - This didn't last long! Worked okay in the morning, but it was dead when I went to use the microwave to make dinner. :( I reinstall the halogen bulb until I can find another G8 LED bulb... a different brand, with a longer life! warranty replacement unpleasantness Update - July 14, 2015 I've been VERY happy with how this LED bulb had been operating... until today. 29 days & this bulb is dead! Not even close to the 13.7 years that this LED bulb is advertised to last. This LED bulb is installed in my microwave to light the oven interior, so it's only lit when the microwave is cooking. I downgraded my product rating to show my displeasure! :( Advertised - 2 year warranty. I contacted Feit Electric via their website & I'll update my product review after I hear from them. Update - July 23, 2015 Finally talked with Feit customer service... apparently they don't respond via e-mail! I need to mail the defective bulb to them on my dime. More to come as I "jump thru the hoops" to get a replacement bulb... :( Update - August 16, 2015 I received a letter from Feit confirming that they received the defective LED bulb I mailed to them & that I needed to call them?I called in & I was told they needed to confirm my mailing address?! Note above that they sent me a letter! I was told that I'd receive the warranty replacement LED bulb in 2 to 3 weeks! Update - August 25, 2015 It's been a month now since I filed my warranty claim with Feit & I'm still waiting for the promised replacement LED bulb! :( Update - August 31, 2015 I finally received the promised warranty replacement LED bulb! my original review is below My quest to replace power consuming incandescent light bulbs focused on our microwave. The oven 20 watt halogen bulb had just burned out, so I figured it was a good time to switch to LED lighting! My search for a 20 watt G8 equivalent LED bulb found this one.The pros:+ 11.05 with free shipping when I bought mine.+ Standard G8 base.+ Bulb voltage = 120 VAC.+ Advertised - 2 watts = 20 watt halogen bulb equivalent.+ Advertised - Instant on to full brightness.+ Advertised - 160 lumens. The light is brighter than the 20 watt halogen bulb this replaced.+ Advertised - 3000 kelvin - warm white. The light is whiter than the 20 watt halogen bulb this replaced... a good thing!+ Advertised - 15,000 hours, 13.7 years... if used 3 hours a day.+ Advertised - indoor/outdoor usage.+ Advertised - 2 year warranty against manufacturer defects. The cons:- Not the best customer product reviews... perhaps deserved?- Not a plug & play installation in our GE Spacemaker 2.0 microwave. This LED bulb was installed for the oven lighting & not the surface (range top) lighting. This LED bulb has a standard G8 base... pin spacing, but is much wider & thicker than a standard G8 halogen bulb! More details below in my closing remarks.- This LED bulb is NOT dimmable. If used with a dimmer, it will buzz + it will fail in a short time!Closing remarks: When I went to plug in this G8 LED bulb, I was disappointed! It would NOT plug into the bulb socket? The bulb socket has a raised area surrounding the socket, additional support for the G8 halogen bulb. This raised area prevents this over sized G8 LED bulb from plugging! I pondered this for awhile, finally deciding to break off the raised area on the socket. The socket is porcelain, to withstand the high temperature of the halogen bulb, so this raised area can be CAREFULLY broken... chipped off. To my surprise, this was easier to do than I first thought it would be. With this modification, the LED bulb plugged in perfectly. When the LED bulb was lit, I was impressed! The light appeared to be twice that of the 20 watt halogen bulb + the light was whiter! This LED bulb makes the old halogen bulb look dim! :) If this LED bulb continues to work... doesn't fail, I'll be back to up my product rating. It's obvious that the LED bulbs didn't last, so my product review rating now reflects my displeasure! :( 1Hum .... mmmmI read all the reviews and noted a number which complained of buzzing/humming. I have bulbs by other manufacturers as well as Feit 40W and 60W (equiv) that don't hum. I mean it's 2015 and making bulbs that don't buzz/hum is not rocket science. So figured I would take a chance and ordered two. Big mistake. One of them works fine and is perfectly silent. The other one buzzes/hums. This is on a plain lamp fixture with no dimmer.Upon close examination I see that the two bulbs come from different lots. The folding on the cardboard packaging is different between the two. On one of them the lettering on the bulb sits right above the heat sink, on the other there is a gap between the lettering and the heat sink. I contacted Feit and they told me to mail in the defect (at my expense). No thank you, I'll take advantage of Amazon's customer friendly defect return policy.Be warned, avoid this bulb. You don't want a twenty buck paper weight. Caveat emptor.Notes: The paper packaging claims "suitable for use in enclosed fixtures", yet the lettering on the bulb itself says "not for use in recessed fixtures". These flicker horribly with Lutron Maestro dimmers despite Feit claims that they are dimmable. Please refer to one of the Amazon reviews for Feit BPAG1600OM/5K/LED where the reviewer says that BPAG1600OM is dimmable but BPAG1600DM/LED is not. Evidently Feit is playing fast and loose with product descriptions and quality control. These are also larger than A21 bulbs from other manufacturers and will not fit in most ceiling fixtures. 1Description is FALSE, _NOT_ a DIMMABLE bulb!I bought this specifically because the item description claimed under "special features" that it was dimmable. I have a z-wave controlled dimmer switch and discovered that it absolutely DOES NOT DIM. It stays full brightness through most of the range (100% down to about 8%), but below that the bulb does not dim but rather flickers on and off (incidentally, I'm using that as a "feature" by setting my brightness to 4% and using it as a blinking light for system alerts, but that is nowhere near the same thing as being "dimmable").I'm giving it three stars only because I find the "blinking" side-effect of attempting low brightness setting useful enough to keep the bulb, but I don't recommend using that trick unless you're okay with potentially drastic losses in longevity; the long-term effect of my "blink hack" on the life of the bulb is not obvious to me. 3
